A riveting historical narrative of the heart-stopping events surrounding the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and the first work of history from mega-bestselling author Bill O’ReillyThe anchor of The O’Reilly Factor recounts one of the most dramatic stories in American history how one gunshot changed the country forever. In the spring of 1865, the bloody saga of America’s Civil War finally comes … America’s Civil War finally comes to an end after a series of increasingly harrowing battles. President Abraham Lincoln’s generous terms for Robert E. Lee’s surrender are devised to fulfill Lincoln’s dream of healing a divided nation, with the former Confederates allowed to reintegrate into American society. But one man and his band of murderous accomplices, perhaps reaching into the highest ranks of the U.S. government, are not appeased.
In the midst of the patriotic celebrations in Washington D.C., John Wilkes Booth charismatic ladies’ man and impenitent racist murders Abraham Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre. A furious manhunt ensues and Booth immediately becomes the country’s most wanted fugitive. Lafayette C. Baker, a smart but shifty New York detective and former Union spy, unravels the string of clues leading to Booth, while federal forces track his accomplices. Featuring some of history’s most remarkable figures, vivid detail, and page-turning action, Killing Lincoln is history that reads like a thriller.

What book did you enjoy that took you out of your comfort zone?
I was never a big fan of nonfiction because I found it too dry. That was, until I discovered Killing Lincoln. The book reads like a thriller. Since then, I’ve found myself reading a lot more nonfiction.
This book brings history alive! I have always been interested in anything Lincoln and totally enjoyed this book. It takes the reader right into Lincoln’s world and is is a fast paced, page turning, read. Non fiction was never so much fun to read. I could not put this down! I found new perspectives on Lincoln’s life and death and I highly …
I really liked the way this biography unfolded. Very insightful.
Well researched. Facts I did not know.
I expected something revelatory but it’s basic high school history. If you know nothing about the assassination, read it.
I thought I knew pretty much about Abe Lincoln, but this book was very interesting and taught me details that I’d been unaware of. I also loved his “Killing Kennedy”.
I didn’t know what to expect when I picked up this book. History can be presented in such a dry manner. Not this time! Even though I knew what was going to happen, there was an intensity and a feeling of adrenaline rush the whole time I was reading it, and this strange sense of hoping for a different outcome, even though it is impossible. And …
As usual, O’Reilly and Dugard do a great job ignoring the hype and digging into the real history.
I had the opportunity to read this book through one of my students, and we both were astounded by the in-depth information…just when I thought I knew the story of Lincoln’s assassination, I realized very quickly and clearly that I did not. There were so many facets to this story that pulled me in and held me there, and it reads like a Da vinci …
This book provides great insight and details regarding the assasination of Lincoln in a stright forward narrative and is also a great read.
This book had me on the first page! I am a fan of Lincoln information and felt that I knew all I could know, however, O’Riley has well researched his facts and presents them in a way that create a real page-turner.
This was the first book of the Killing series by Bill O’Reilly. And I’m glad I listened to the audio book version. I learned a lot and enjoyed hearing more about Abraham Lincoln and his assassination. Bill O’Reilly does a great job of providing interesting details and keeping your attention.
I am looking forward to reading/listening to more …
Great historical presentation
I had to read this book for a book report. Like all the others, I thought it would be boring and not exciting and only make me want to sleep. Turns out this is a really great book for teens and older!
