I love learning about history and real people from history. Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard do an excellent job building the lives of the people that surround and impact the life and ministry of Jesus. The research is impeccable. I don’t normally enjoy footnotes. But in this case, the footnotes are excellent and help enrich the reader’s …
Gained knowledge about Passover and why there is prep for it and reason for it as well as checking body after dying before burial. Graphic detail about pain and bodily inflections he underwent dying for our sins. Shame, his disciples showed no affiliation due to fear (except the one hung upside down). Very informative.
Keep in mind that he’s a historian and not a theologian.
I knew the story but this added so much detail about the characters. Another excellent “Killing” book!
Before reading my review, you should know that I lay claim to the term Christian. I believe in Jesus Christ as a real person and as my Redeemer. Written with attention to detail and seemingly well researched. Enlightening and tragic, it puts a human element into Jesus and other significant persons of that era. Overall a worthwhile read for believers and non-believers as well.
Being raised as a Christian, I am fairly well versed in the Biblical account of Jesus’ life. What I was looking for and found here was more of a historical take on the world leading up to and during the time of Christ. The politics of the time in the Roman Empire. Some of the details of the events involving His crucifixion from the standpoint of …
Very well researched and presented in a factual and insightful manner, without positive or negative religious overtones.
Excellent historical account of the jurisdiction era
Wonderful book, mostly factual as I have understood times, excellent visualizations of persons and locations. Thanks to Mr. O’R. And Mr. D.
G.G.H.
I keep reading O’Reilly expecting some big revelation that no one knew. There never is one. The book is factual from well known sources. The writing is clear. When you’re done you feel like you could have written the book.
This is a fantastic read
