THE FIRST NOVEL IN LEE CHILD’S #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING JACK REACHER SERIES—SOON TO BE AN ORIGINAL SERIES ON PRIME VIDEO!“From its jolting opening scene to its fiery final confrontation, Killing Floor is irresistible.”—PeopleEx-military policeman Jack Reacher is a drifter. He’s just passing through Margrave, Georgia, and in less than an hour, he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. … he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. All Reacher knows is that he didn’t kill anybody. At least not here. Not lately. But he doesn’t stand a chance of convincing anyone. Not in Margrave, Georgia. Not a chance in hell.

Great intro into Jack Reacher. An unforgettable character.
I enjoy all of Lee Childs books with Jack Reacher.
Fantastic, gritty and action-packed!
The opening of this book is incredible. The very first paragraph is masterfully crafted and set a deep hook for me. The use of the word “right” repeatedly by so many characters is a little distracting. But the character of Jack Reacher will draw you in regardless.
Every once in a while, I like to get lost in an action-packed thriller. I’ve been reading these for years but not in any particular. I actually got Killing Floor last Christmas (2018) and finally got around to reading it this Christmas (2019). It’s Jack Reacher, but not quite as we get to know him later on. He seemed more doubtful of his actions in this first novel. Unsure of himself. But still Reacher! And if you only know this character from the movies, well, Jack Reacher is 6’4″ and 240 pounds. It’s a fun read.
Read all 31 Reacher books. An excellent character from a great writer.
Only disappointment related to this character is Tom Cruise should have stopped after he optioned the book. Reacher is over six feet, Cruise isn’t.
I LOVE Jack Reacher!!
I have every single one of the Jack Reacher books on my audible account. Not only is the narrator, who does switch after book 3, read amazing, but the second narrator kills it and you can’t stop listening to these books. The characters are great!! I’ve listened to them twice and since there’s a new one out, I’m going to go through the entire series again. I love to listen to them while I’m doing things around the house. The world is painted so well and they are addictive. Highly recommend!! The 2 movies out are good, but if you listen to them on audio you don’t even need a movie. Lee Child makes a movie out of the book and it’s all there if you just close your eyes.
I like all the Jack Reacher books!
Any Jack Reacher book is going to be such fun to read!
I love the Jack Reacher books. They get you hooked from page one!
Just wildly entertaining “overdog” story that reads like a very addictive police procedural without all the pretentious nonsense. Just fun as hell and hooks you hard. I enjoyed it front to back.
Wow. This was my first Jack Reacher novel. He is introduced in this book (a reprint of the first), so it is a good one to start with. It was unbelievably descriptive. Jack does the unthinkable without a thought. He plans and follows through, often to my surprise –what he does and how he goes about doing it.
The first Jack Reacher book. It’s Jack Reacher and it’s good stuff. I have admit, I learned a bit about cash and counterfeit.
The start of the Jack Reacher series. Definitely start here and travel through his incredible adventures.
I read this book out of curiosity after seeing a couple of the cinematic efforts featuring the inappropriate Tom Cruise (so different in appearance from the written character). The story is pretty fast paced and it seems Child has tried to emphasize this through a clipped, staccato sentence structure – many simple subject/verb/object/full stop constructs throughout – but I personally found this distracting. If I’m noticing the writer’s technique, I’ve dropped out of full engagement in the story. I will read a later Jack Reacher novel out of curiosity to see whether Child has moved on from this.
The Killing Floor has many action scenes interspersed with relatively tender scenes involving Reacher and the (female) home town police officer who is conveniently single and immediately infatuated with him following his arrest in the opening scene. Accepting this instant attraction was easier than reconciling the cold, ruthless killer that Reacher becomes when faced by enemies versus the blues loving, caring romantic he otherwise presents.
There is one scene, at an airport, involving a murder (no more detail so not a spoiler) that I found completely confusing – really couldn’t get my head around who was where, or the inexplicable ease with which the killer(s) is/are able to move around without the difficulties experienced by Reacher. Other than that, the bounds of credulity are not stretched beyond reasonably acceptable limits and the story is a fun read.
Lee Child begins his Jack Reacher novels with a bang. His hero is given a history, physical description, and philosophy, developing the character completely.
The plot is intricate, exciting, and full of action. Jack’s chastisement you miscreants is most satisfactory. Of course, romance is included for the ladies.
Jack Reacher at his best.
It’s Jack Reacher. Can’t lose with a Reacher novel.
This is the first of many Lee Child’s “Jack Reacher” stories. I read it after seeing a Jack Reacher movie, and I was determined to start at the beginning. I’m glad I made that choice. This one drew me into the Jack Reacher story from the very first page and kept me engrossed until the very end of the book. I now have all of the Reacher series books and will be tackling them one by one. Be warned…..The Jack Reacher books are so entertaining that once you start the series, you’ll never be able to quit!
