THE FIRST NOVEL IN LEE CHILD’S #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING JACK REACHER SERIES—SOON TO BE AN ORIGINAL SERIES ON PRIME VIDEO!“From its jolting opening scene to its fiery final confrontation, Killing Floor is irresistible.”—PeopleEx-military policeman Jack Reacher is a drifter. He’s just passing through Margrave, Georgia, and in less than an hour, he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. … he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. All Reacher knows is that he didn’t kill anybody. At least not here. Not lately. But he doesn’t stand a chance of convincing anyone. Not in Margrave, Georgia. Not a chance in hell.

This was the first pure thriller I ever read and I am eternally grateful to my colleague who recommended them. Not to mention I had the opportunity to meet Lee Child at Thrillerfest and he’s a genuine, kind, hilarious (and very tall) man. I’ve read all his books and will keep reading them, interested to see what happens with the addition of his brother’s authorship. Also very much looking forward to the Amazon TV series
Terrorizing
I’m reading the Jack Reacher novels in the wrong order. This is the first and it’s a masterclass in storytelling and characterisation.
Famed authors left and right have cited Lee Child as one of their influencers to their writing and with it, after reading Child’s debut novel, Killing Floor, it is markedly apparent. A simple murder by the roadside turns into an epic novel ripe with thematic elements of corruption, right versus wrong and with tinges of dramatic love that you are unexpecting. Introducing Jack Reacher to the world of literary figures, Child writes from a unique first-person perspective and a way with words that is uncannily unusual from the mainstream, pushing the bounds of violence and horror you will not find in many novels of this fashion. With a character that is relatable and caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, the tale unfolds piece by piece that keeps the pages turning. For those who enjoy murder mysteries, thrillers of any genre, both, or even have had Child cited as one of your favorite author’s influences, it is best to start here and be immersed in the hype of Jack Reacher.
I love the Reacher character and series.
3.5 stars
This is my first time ever reading a book by Lee Childs. I always see his books around, however, I was recommended the Jack Reacher series by an online friend in game.
‘E Unum Pluribus. Out of one comes many’
Killing floor is the first book in the Jack Reacher series. Reacher has been laid off from his job, now an Ex military cop. He is now on his own decided to head away to figure out about one of his favourite singers who had died mysteriously. One day hadn’t gone since he reached his destination , he is arrested for murder. Two murders. Jack Reacher claims to be innocent. An investigation is taken place.
Starting of this book was hard for me to get into, I did find it slow and the writing style different to what I usually read.
However, once I got into it, I really loved the suspense of wanting to know who the really murderer was or is. It was done in a perfect and calculated way.
It was great to see that there was a connection with what Jack Reacher came to Georgia for in the first place was answered at the end and connected with certain plots.
I was glad that the end had a sad but happy ending. It wasn’t the typical, he has got everything and has won everything. Their is a bit of understable sadness to the happiness..
This book, is slow but suspenseful, action-packed and a goal for retribution.
Definitely looking forward to read the 2nd book, not sure if they are linked but will see.
Read on Libby.
The first book in the series. Child didn’t quite have his chops altogether yet, but still a good read.
Loved it – scary
When you start reading the Jack Reacher books, you have to be prepared for the fact that these are not the movies. The loquacious Child can make a one second movie scene drone on for several pages. If you are listening to the book on tape as a way to pass the time for your long morning commute to work, it’s fantastic. However, if you’re on a tight schedule and just want to get to the action scenes, you’ll have to wade through the long-winded descriptions of every detail about many topics which have no bearing on the plot.
That said, the story is excellent, and I’m continuing on in the series, likely to read them all.
The debut of Jack Reacher, the ultimate loner. Lee Child created a protagonist that wins against insurmountable odds. A true page-turner.
Somehow, I started in the middle of the Jack Reacher novels. This is where it all starts. Love the page-turning action!
A great novel! Action and suspense! Page turner!
This is the first of the Reacher books from way back in 1997. I still think it’s one of the best. The character and his motivation are clearly defined and set the trend for everything to follow. Reacher was a definitive character for his time and he still is today!
Excellent, mr child is very good, and Reacher is awesome thanks!
Still my favorite series!
My first Jack Reacher; picked it up in New York when paperbacks were $1.95 – and that’s way back when. Started me on a years’ long love affair with Jack Reacher. You cannot go wrong with this series.
Love all the J. Reacher books
The best of the Jack Reacher series
It was ok, but I guess seeing the movie first with Tom Cruise, this character for me did not compare to the movie version.
Lee Child is hard to beat.
