THE FIRST NOVEL IN LEE CHILD’S #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING JACK REACHER SERIES—SOON TO BE AN ORIGINAL SERIES ON PRIME VIDEO!“From its jolting opening scene to its fiery final confrontation, Killing Floor is irresistible.”—PeopleEx-military policeman Jack Reacher is a drifter. He’s just passing through Margrave, Georgia, and in less than an hour, he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. … he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. All Reacher knows is that he didn’t kill anybody. At least not here. Not lately. But he doesn’t stand a chance of convincing anyone. Not in Margrave, Georgia. Not a chance in hell.

One of the best characters in crime fiction gets his start in Killing Floor. Just opened it again a few weeks back — still a personal favorite.
It’s been over 20 years since this book came out, but it’s still great to revisit Jack Reacher’s debut appearance in fiction. Dusty, hot, mysterious, atmospheric and occasionally brutally violent: Lee Child knows exactly what he’s aiming for and the ensuing popularity of the series shows how well he nailed it. Probably my favourite work of his. Check it out!
If the very first sentence doesn’t grab you and pull you in…by the end of the first chapter, you are there. This first Jack Reacher novel will keep you guessing until the end. Very descriptive with characters and locations. You feel as if you are right there with Reacher.
The start of the Jack Reacher series. Each book is a story unto itself . They can be read as a stand alone novel but recommend starting at the beginning.
The very first Jack Reacher; I remember a senior executive at an audiobook company telling me to pick this book up. That just the opening chapter was enough for the debut novel to sell.
I find Reacher an interesting character, not least of which because his life has many parallels with my own– he fictionally graduated a year after me at West Point. Was in Beirut when the bombing occurred when my unit at the time, 10th Special Forces, was running a mobile training team (MTT) there; my mother-in-law is from Strasbourg, etc etc.
If you haven’t gotten into Reacher, this is the book to start with.
I love the whole Jack Reacher series. It all started with this one. It’s hard to put down a Reacher book once you’ve started, so beware. Make sure you don’t need sleep or don’t have anything important to do right away. Jack Reacher is a vivid character – intelligent, fair-minded, justice-seeking, yet content to “stay in his own lane” until provoked. But once he’s provoked, look out. Reacher is swift and powerful and cunning. He’s also relentless. These books thrive on pulling the reader into the action and into Reacher’s mindset. They are captivating.
The first book in The Jack Reacher series is still my favorite. Raw, action-packed, and a killer read – pun intended.
I read this book a long time ago, but would still recommend it. It was fresh, interesting, and kept me turning pages. A lot of copycats out there, but really only one Reacher.
Killing Floor is the first book in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series. I enjoyed the read despite some repetitive phrases and incomplete sentences and I’m usually not a critic of writing style. Still, I found this to be a fast-paced, enjoyable read. Reacher, as per usual, is just 6 months out of the army, minding his own business in a diner in Margrave, Georgia. He’s arrested for a murder he didn’t commit. Hand on, Reacher is about to begin a twenty+-year trek of solving crimes and eliminating anyone who gets in his way.
As a veteran, I really appreciate the accuracy of Lee Child’s work! The Killing Floor is the first Jack Reacher book and is an amazing read. This one was a bit “raw” and Child toned down some of that with all the rest of the Reacher novels.
The first in the Reacher books, this might still be my favourite. You know exactly what you’re getting by now, so a tad formulaic, but that’s not a bad thing when the formula is bang on. Action, adventure, atmosphere and mystery with a protagonist you root for, these books are a satisfying summer holiday staple for me.
I’ve read the entire Reacher canon, but all willy-nilly and skeewampus. For the virus shutdown, I’ve decided to read them all in order. I forgot how clever some of the storylines are, and this first book is an example.
I love Jack Reacher as a character, and I’m looking forward to tracking the ways that he grows and changes when I follow the stories chronologically!
This was my first Jack Reacher novel. Excellent pace, kept me reading way past bedtime. Painted a great picture of Margrave, Georgia and the townspeople. Small town corruption at it’s finest.
Killing Floor by Lee Child has everything a great crime novel needs. A quick paced story, characters so well drawn they seem real, but most of all for me, a crime that is so ingenious, I was blown away! Killing Floor is a real page-turner!
Plenty of action, a bit of humor, and a character for which you’ll cheer. A very well-written adventure with a tough guy hero. I loved it!
Great book. Reacher is a force of nature that you absolutely pull for.
Riveting!
Great character – Fast Paced – Short Read
I had wondered for a long time and finally read this. I am buying the rest of the series and have already read the second book.
I finally decided I needed to read Jack Reacher. It was definitely a twisty plot. While I saw the last plot twist coming a mile off, the first one did take me by surprise. While it was definitely suspenseful and well-written, I really don’t go much for the vigilante justice genre, especially the ‘woman in every port’ kind that looks like this one will be, so I think I will pass on the sequels.
