Love is for losers.Jack doesn’t care about anything except music. All she wants to do is find a decent gig, stand by the speakers and let the bass roll through her. It’s the only reason she gets out of bed.Until she meets Winta. In the space of a second, everything is different. Winta knows what she wants and for one night, what she wants is Jack. It feels like the start of forever. Then Winta … forever.
Then Winta disappears and Jack faces a choice: should she go back to her life, or track down the only girl who can change it beyond recognition?
One thing’s certain: Jack has no idea what she’s getting herself into.
Killian’s Dead is a short story prequel to Josie Jaffrey’s Seekers series.

I have received this review copy for free. My opinion remains my own.
This prequel short story is perfect for this series. It gives a glimpse into Jack Valentine before she becomes a vampire and how she met Winta, a female vampire she fell in love with, and what it is that actually happened what keeps being referenced in the first book. I read May Day before I read this short story, so I didn’t fully understand what happened, but that make me not understand the story in the slightest. It was actually really interesting to find out their story afterwards, as May Day really pointed out the significance of that event.
The tone of this short story is a darker and more mysterious, making it different from May Day, but complimenting it nicely. The writing wasn’t as good as in book one, but it was still really good and the change of tone was actually really nice.
If you are interested in reading this series, this prequel short story is a must-read! Even though I read it after reading book one, I can tell it doesn’t matter in what order you read Killian’s Dead and May Day, aslong as you read both before book two.
I really recommend this short story and by extend the whole series as it’s a prequel. It’s a vampire story with a disaster bisexual in the lead and an amazingly dark tone. I really love it and I cannot wait for the next book.
“I’m not going to apologize for doing what millions of men do every single day without criticism just because the world expects women to be nice.” – Jack Valentine
I read this short story before the first book in the series — “May Day” and I just have to say: Josie’s vampires are the best. I immediately jumped out of my bed to grab my copy of “May Day”, because I just couldn’t wait to find out more about Jack. She’s such great character. She’s flawed, like everyone is, but she’s also smart and strong. You can tell by the quote I started this review with that she’s a badass. I absolutely adore Josie’s work & her characters. This was a great way to start “Seekers”!
Killian’s Dead is a quick prequel in The Seekers series that basically tells us how Jack became a vampire. This one is easily read in an hour or less, and it’s entertaining and fun. It also whets the appetite for the first full-length book in the series, May Day, which is what a good prequel should do. The book is short enough that almost any detail would venture into spoiler territory, so I’ll just finish with this is a great little introduction to the series and it’s a good way to start getting to know Jack.
Well that intrigued me! With strong characterizion, especially for a short story, this one grabbed me early and held on throughout. I’m exceptionally curious to see where Jack goes next – the writing was engaging, as was the plot / setup, and I’m glad I have the first in the series to dive into now!
Thanks to the author and Story Origin for my obligation – free review copy.
In Killian’s Dead we meet Jack, a girl who loves music and the feeling it gives her. One night she meets Winta, a seductive and mysterious woman, with whom she talks for hours and connects as she has never connected with anyone.
Everything seems destined to become an epic romance, until Winta disappears and Jack can’t forget the subject… and she doesn’t know how much trouble she’s getting herself into.
I feel that everything happens so fast and I was not convinced of this sudden passion that Jack says she feel. It seemed too fast, but I don’t know, it can be just me who never felt a passion so sudden that it would lead me to risk my life for someone I only knew for a few hours! ahah It is true that their connection seems different and special, but I wonder if it is some kind of vampire enchantment or something.
I think this shortstory could have been a little bit longer, but I understand that its purpose was to leave us with a taste of the events that are about to come, not giving a lot of answers, so Josie planted a seed for us to be curious to find out what follows.
Who are the “Seekers”? What does the last scene of Killian’s Dead mean? Will May day start where this book ends? Are the vampires in this series the same as Sovereign’s? I can’t wait to find out everything!
Either way, we’ll find out everything in Seekers #1 (May day) which will be released on July 9th!
