Dollycas’s Thoughts
Adina Donati is back and she is involved in solving another murder. A work colleague who also lives nearby has been killed and her detective boyfriend is away for training so his boss is in charge. Adina thinks he is may not be getting the full picture. As she uncovers info she tries to share with him but he is not happy about her interference. A key clue is found that brings everything into focus and again Adina is on the scene.
Adina is a grand protagonist, works for a D.C. think tank and volunteers at an animal rescue. I love that she now has a dog and has convinced her neighbor to foster a fantastic dog too. She now has two housemates and I was delighted to meet them. Her neighbor is an elderly man that watches over the neighborhood. Cassidy gets to know him better with a tragic event and the following murder. I enjoy the friendship they are building.
Cassidy Salem has wrapped her characters in a very interesting mystery, it could have gone in several directions. The twists were great and I loved the way it played out. She packs so much into just 182 pages and it is easily read in an afternoon.
Even though this is the 3rd story in this series it can be read on its own. I also believe we have just scratched the surface on these characters. I am excited about the next installment.
A violent attack. The victim recovers only to be found strangled several days later. Adina can’t let it go. The safety of people she cares about hangs in the balance. The assailant struck so close to home.
This was a fun, quick read. Finished it in a couple hours. There’s a bit of a mystery in a mystery as the two attacks could be the same or two different assailants. I quickly grew to bond with several of the characters. Adina and her policeman boyfriend, Jonathan, were adorable. And retired policeman and neighbor Bart Crockett is someone I’d like to have living in my neighborhood. I spid a little romance brewing between Bart and Joan, owner of the Cutie Pie dog rescue center. His recent adoption of one of her puppies doesn’t appear to be the only reason she comes to visit.
While I haven’t read the previous books in the series. I had no trouble following along and enjoying the characters. And being a huge fan of cozies, I’m sure I’ll be going back to the beginning to see how the series began.
While Killer Reputation is the third in this series, it works well as a stand alone. It is interesting that Adina works at a think tank. That is an unusual job. I love that she helps with rescue animals. This is an interesting story with plenty of suspects and possible motives. The characters are well developed. I was interested enough to read it in one sitting.
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book. This is book three in the series and can be read or listened to as a standalone book, however it does continue on from the previous book, so relationships and characters have already been established. This is a fun mystery with plenty of suspects and even whether it was the right victim, so there is a lot going on. Including helping out at an animal shelter. The main character is like able and tenacious enough to keep investigating even with the policeman in charge and her boyfriend telling her to stay out of it, But I especially liked the nosey neighbour and thought he was a fun character to have around. A good series and one I am happy to visit again.
Adina thought she had moved into a safe neighbourhood, especially sharing with two other females. But the street is any thing but quite, even with the retired cop always on his porch watching. First a neighbour is big over the head and left unconscious and then a stalker is seen lurking around. It’s only When the same victim is found dead in a car park garage and an announcement at work confirming that he died suddenly, yes murder is normally sudden, that Adina gets involved and is once again questioning her co workers. Did the stalker come back and finish the job? Or is there a lot more going on than jealously?
With her boyfriend out of town she will have to get help from a nosey neighbour and some playful pups if she wants to help the police get to the bottom of the murder.
I did like the narrator but the editing could have done with some work, as it sounded very tinny.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
