I think there are two ways to look at my husband Lucas. Some find him scary. He’s big, broad, and works with the dead, but, to me, he’s the man I fell in love with the first time I saw him. He’s the man who makes me dinner, rubs my feet, and makes love to me until the sun washes away the stars. I know there’s a side of him that he keeps from me. Another woman might be suspicious that he always … he always comes home freshly showered or that he takes frequent business trips out of town. Yet, I trust him because he’d never betray me. His entire purpose is to protect me. Deep down, I know what he’s doing. Deep down, I know that he’s maintaining the balance between good and bad. Other people might not agree with his actions, but for me, our love will always be killer.

Killer Love…
I think the idea is suppose to be a bit of romance added in with a healthy dose of Dexter (the television show).
For Lucas he’s the best ME (medical examiner) in the area. He can usually tell right away what a person’s cause of death is and time of death without much of a hassle. He’s also found the love of his life in Angel and would do whatever it takes to protect her.
However, Lucas has a side to him that he doesn’t let anyone know about. He’s not really killing just to kill, but he’s killing those that the justice system failed to punish appropriately. But things get a little to close to home when many of the deaths start crossing paths with Lucas, his wife, and another attorney. But like I said above…Lucas will do ANYTHING to protect his Angel.
This was a good story. I love these kinds of books when there’s the romance aspect, yes, but also when the person you least suspect of doing something wrong is the one that is committing the crimes.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book**
Lucas is a medical examiner with a vigilante fetish. He loves his wife, Angel, very much. He does not allow anyone to make her upset and takes care of bad people in his own way. Lol. I really like this Dexterish, vibe read. 4 solid stars ****
Wow. This is like no other Ella Goode book when it comes to the storyline, but it didn’t make me love the story any less. I loved the twist that came in this books, and how we got to see the protectiveness Lucas had for his wife Angel that started from the very beginning of their marriage. It was great reading about this already married couple and the lengths they’d both go to be able to have that killer love.
I liked this story a lot. It was entertaining and enjoyable even with the twist. The characters were interesting. Lucas and Angel were a wonderful couple. I loved how protective Lucas was of Angel. I liked that Angel trusted Lucas and felt safe with him. Lucas was my favorite kind of anti-hero. He had me rooting for him through the whole book. Angel and Lucas are one of my new favorite couples. I loved their happy ever after. I recommend reading this book.
SPOILERS
You would think that a book with a law-abiding, vigilante serial killer besotted with his wife would be more exciting, but it wasn’t. Most likely most of the issue was some fairly flat writing.
I never watched Dexter, but I have a feeling that there was some influence from that show: a basically decent guy that channels those homicidal serial killer impulses for the greater good. Unfortunately here we don’t get the backstory about what set him on this path of moral killing. All we get is how hot and how protective he is for the heroine.
He offs a couple of bad guys and manages to deflect the concerned eyes of a couple of homicide detectives. What finally plopped it down from three to two stars was him targeting someone outside his normal spectrum in order to “protect” his wife. I prefer a cleaner, more black and white line of morality when it comes to killing and the end justifies the means.
If you want a hang on the edge of your seat, blow your mind serial killer story, then start with The Risk, the first book in the Mindf*ck series.
