From USA Today bestselling authors Traci Andrighetti and Elizabeth Ashby comes a look to die for…Salon owner Cassidi Conti thought The Clip and Sip’s struggles were behind her. Although the first book in the A Danger Cover Hair Salon Mystery series is still my favorite, I had tons of fun with the gang in Killer Eyeshadow and a Cold Espresso. Zany New Jersey girl Gia is still driving her calmer Texas cousin Cassidi a more than a little crazy, but the women make a great team and you can tell that they love each other.
They are frustrated and angry that the deal they were forced into with, as they call her, McCurmudgeon, has put them in a terrible position. Her tours of the house Cassidi’s uncle left her, featuring the whorehouse angle, are chasing away all their customers. They believe that an empty salon is the the worst thing that could happen; in Danger Cover things not only can get worse but are sure to. They are still trying to figure out who killed Cassidi’s uncle when another death lands right in their laps, almost literally. Since Detective Marshall is in charge of the investigation they figure they had better find the murder before he accuses them.
One of the things that I loved about this book is that Traci Andrighetti included the renovator Alex and florist George as secondary characters. The couple, who call themselves Nick and Nora from the Thin Man books and movie, was featured in the late Christine A. Burke’s introduction to the Danger Cove books, Secret of the Painted Lady and now we have resolution to questions that Ms. Burke’s passing left open.
I appreciated the fact that the method of the newest murder was inspired by a classic mystery novel; even the bad guys enjoy a good mystery. Finally I enjoy the fact that romance is rampant in Danger Cove. It may not play a big part in the story line, but it is important to the characters and fun for the reader.
Another fabulous book! I love the quirky characters and interesting fun storyline! Cassidi Conti and her step cousin Gia, have a salon in a building called the Painted Lady and they are trying to renovate. Because of the backround of the building, they are dealing with a sightseeing pest, Harriet McCudgeon and her double-decker bus of tourists. Lots of twists and turns, they become suspects in a murder that they try to solve. I love Gia’s step mom Aunt Carla! I love the Jersey accents, since I am a Jersey girl! You will laugh out loud and this book will keep you wanting more! The wonderful recipes at the end of the book are an added attraction. Thank you for writing such a fun read! I cannot wait for the next book!
I loved Traci’s Fanki Amato series and when I stumbled on this by accident I jumped at the chance to read the book. So glad I did, it is very much like a Franki book but in a different town and job but still with the same great humour and fun characters.
Working and owning a hairdressing shop should be easy in a small town, where everybody knows everybody but that doesn’t prove to be the case for Cassi and her step cousin, especially when the shop used to the local brothel that has just been added to the local tour trip. That would be bad enough but the previous owner (her uncle Vinney) was into some shady deals and was murdered there too. When his ex partner is released from prison and dies at a party Cassi is attending things get really funny,um I mean serious.
Love the characters and the plot made for a great story that kept you guessing what was going to happen next. Definitely a book to read and when it comes out to add to your audible collection.
Killer Eyeshadow and a Cold Espresso is a very entertaining mystery. It is extremely well written. It is filled with wonderful characters. There are many suspects and even more possible motives. This book will keep you well entertained and guessing until the end.
Wonderfully written and extremely entertaining, the mystery keeps you guessing until the end reveal. This series has been so fun to read, the authors have done a wonderful job of writing a story full of excitement, mystery and a little romance.
Enjoyed this book very much! Love all these wacky characters too. The author writes each character so well that it’s like watching a movie as I read. The whodunit always surprises me in this series which adds to the fun. This series makes more sense if read in order.
“Killer Eyeshadow and a Cold Espresso” earns 5/5 Makeovers…Deadly Clever!
There is so much excitement to unpack in this third book in the Traci Andrghetti’s Danger Cove Hair Salon Mystery series, I don’t know where to start. Cold case murders? Mobsters? Missing money? Treasure? First, I loved it! I am a fan of this multi-author series, and a fan of Traci Andrighetti’s Franki Amato Mystery, so I knew this would be just as entertaining. Second, Traci uses the traditional cozy formula that I enjoy: worry, trouble, dead body, more trouble, nosiness, more trouble, and “Eccolo!” (There it is!). However she adds her own well-written tone, emotion, and humor keeping me eager to turn the pages. I felt frustration, anger, worry, curiosity, glee, and complete satisfaction. I started with book three, and her Uncle Vinny’s murder was a reoccurring issue. But, there was enough revisiting backgrounds and character connections to keep my interest, and my interest means I’ve got to read book one and two! Make this book the next focus of your Book Club. Found in the back of the book, Traci has compiled a set of Book Club Questions to use at your gathering. And she added the recipe for Italian Sunrise, “the drink that screams Aunt Carla,” to liven up the discussion! Also the best Ragù recipe…as Aunt Carla says, “They tasted my ragù, and the next thing you know I had a ring on my finguh.” Here’s two more favorite words…”Buon appetito!
A cozy mystery that’s packed with wit and humor. The characters are multidimensional and their over-the-top Italian dialectical speech blends without distraction. The action and clues are nonstop; definitely a five-star read.
Another great Danger Cove mystery. Danger Cove salon owners, Cassidi and Gia end up being suspects in a murder. The victim was just released from jail. The ladies must fight to prove their innocence, save their salon and find out who killed their Uncle Vinny. In the meantime, they cross paths with criminals of all kinds. There were many laugh out loud moments. A few reminded me of my crazy Italian family. I loved how factual people, including the authors, were brought into the story as well. The characters were well developed as was the story. Can’t wait to see where these continue in the future.
