“I’ve done far worse than what I went to prison for. She has no idea how bad this can get.”WINTERSending him to prison was the worst thing I could’ve done. It didn’t matter that he did the crime or that I wished he was dead. Perhaps I thought I’d have time to disappear before he got out or he’d cool off in jail and be anything but the horror he was.But I was wrong. Three years came and went too … I was wrong. Three years came and went too fast, and now he’s anything but calm. Prison only gave him time to plan.
And while I anticipated his vengeance, I didn’t expect this.
He doesn’t want to make me hurt. He wants to make everything hurt.
DAMON
First thing’s first. Get rid of her daddy. He told them I forced her. He told them his little girl was a victim, but I was a kid, too, and she wanted it just as much as I did.
Step two… Give her, her sister, and her mother nowhere to run and no fuel to escape. The Ashby women are alone now and desperate for a knight in shining armor.
But that’s not what’s coming.
No, it’s time I listened to my father and took control of my future. It’s time I showed them all–my family, her family, my friends–that I will never change and that I have no other ambition than to be the nightmare of their lives.
Starting with her.
She’ll be so scared, she won’t even be safe in her own head by the time I’m done with her. And the best part is I won’t have to break into her home to do it.
As the new man of the house I have all the keys.
*Kill Switch is a romantic suspense suitable for readers 18+. It is advised to read Corrupt (Devil’s Night #1) and Hideaway (Devil’s Night #2) prior to reading this book.

Damon’s story, by far, is my most favorite but he’s the most hard for me to read.
This was not because the story wasn’t any good. It’s because it’s the most gripping and most heart aching. Damon and Winter’s story wasn’t an easy one – none of them really were – but they have the most painful back story, so far, in the series.
I loved the way the author sticked to her characters’ roles. She didn’t paint him a saint all of a sudden in the story and if you see something good in him, it was shown in tidbits through some flashbacks; and you will eat those tiny specks of those scenes. It makes Damon human. His flaws not justified but understandable. It doesn’t excused his behaviour, but what he’s become was a product of what he was made of.
He’s damaged but not beyond irreparable. He’s got so much hurt inside him and it fester there; and being mean has been an outlet for him. The easiest way he copes with his own hell.
Both him and Winter are strong characters. The chemistry between them is palpable all throughout the book. I’m thankful that the author was still able to pull out something beautiful between these two broken characters, making them whole and perfect to each other.
So many twists and turns and shocking revelations that adds more WTF and OMG moments in this book. Well done by the author. She did it. She managed to create a world where there’s no black and white and gray is the new black.
Highly recommend this series, this book. Every heartaches is going to be so worth it after.
Hell Yes. So many emotions while reading this book. It was so drawn out! I, along with the rest of the population, have been waiting for this book forever. I was torn between never wanting it to end, and wanting to read ahead SO BAD. And I NEVER read ahead! I didn’t here either but I wanted to SO BAD. The angst was so real and the other things that are added in here, I was here for all of it. There was some twists that I sort of saw coming and some that I never could have guessed. It’s impossible to tell you specifics about this book without spoiling the series for you. Just know this was the bad boy and I had no idea how Penelope Douglas was going to redeem Damon but I couldn’t wait to watch her try! I do believe this is my favorite so far even if it was a little longer than necessary. If I am gonna read a book that big and twisted, I want it dirtier and more frequent. I like what I like. But I was here for all the angsty goodness that Penelope knows how to deliver on. And I can’t wait for Will’s book and the conclusion to this series! If you haven’t started this series then you really need to reevaluate your priorities and get it together.
Well I must say, Damon surprised me. The one everyone thought would be the biggest asshole was really the biggest sweetheart DEEP, DEEP, DEEP down in that place that isn’t easy to dig out of. When he loves he loves hard, and that’s ironic considering what he’s gone through over his lifespan.
That twist at the end leaves me heartbroken in ways. Probably because I have children. And while most thought of her exactly how Damon ended that segment, it breaks my heart, because I get it from both point of views. I sort of am hoping that there will be a build on this from maybe Will’s point of view in his book, but who knows.
I have loved this series so far. It’s gripping, it keeps you turning from page to page, and it gives you a thrill and makes your heart race at times. I still think Hideaway is my favorite ‘story’ so far, or maybe it’s just that Kai is the ultimate sex factor behind his mask, but Damon and Winter are my favorite ‘couple’. I loved their push and pull. I loved that she was it for him, even when circumstances left him angry. And I love that he never let her disability sway how he felt about her. He never felt ‘sorry’ for her, just found other ways for her to experience the world, and that sets him apart from the rest.
I love his jealousy over her. That scene with will and winter—wow. lol. I’ve never giggled like a schoolgirl and thought a scene was hot at the same time. “Sheet” lol.
Five colorful stars! I don’t think I’ll ever imagine colors the same. When he showed her red and black my heart melted into a puddle.
I will say there were a few times during this book Rika and Michael got on my nerves a little, which was odd because I loved them in their book, but mostly it was Michael and his sudden lack of backbone where Rika and a male counterpart were concerned. Maybe I just like a jealous man to an extent (there is a fine line here), and when Damon had to speak up on two occasions it irked me. BUT I think a lot of it was the hostility between Michael and Damon. I just wanted them back together for the world to be back on its axis with the horsemen.
So, as I finish the epilogue this week, I’ll be waiting ever so impatiently for Will’s book.
Holy mindfuck!!! This book had me on the freaking edge of my seat constantly…..dreading the next page, at the same time craving it like my next breath. Damon is the ultimate anti-hero and if you read the previous books you’d totally understand why! I was undoubtedly not a fan of Damon’s after the previous books, he was nothing short of a psychotic asshole; did he redeem himself, oh hell yes he did page after page. Damon and Winter’s story is definitely one that will have you intrigued, spellbound, mind-blown with each twist and turn that will have you holding your breath until the very end. If you think you know how this book unfolds believe me you don’t…. it is 100% blindsiding!
I kept seeing teasers of this book – and it looked like everyone was going crazy over it. But it’s book 3 in a series, so I had to start from the beginning. What followed was a week-long binge where I have barely done anything but read. Omg Damon is such a tortured little boy, and an interesting main character. Winter has a secret wild side. Both their families suck. And the group moments throughout made me super happy. This has been a unique and twisted journey. Sadly I have to wait for the final book to come out, but Penelope? You got yourself a new superfan.
“Don’t let me go.” Those words stuck with me long after I finished this book. It looks like it took me three days to finish this book, but that isn’t true. I finished it in one and then went back and re read it again immediately. If you ask me, who was your favorite character in any book of this series, my answer would be Damon. Maybe I always love the broken ones, but I have to tell you, Damon takes the cake. Reading the first two books of the series you can see that this boy is seriously damaged. The backstory on Damon is literally everything. I cannot get over this book and his fierce love. Damon is the wildcard of the group, but there is good reason for the way he is. While reading the first two books, I couldn’t understand how this was going to play out. He went to prison for statutory rape and Winter put him there. The events leading up to this were unclear until this book and reading about it literally broke my heart. Damon and his kill switch. Their story is amazing.
“ , ’ .”
What kind of mind-fuckery is this?! I knew (Dᴇᴠɪʟ’s Nɪɢʜᴛ #3) by Penelope Douglas was going to be a beautiful and twisted angst-fest of epic proportions, but in no way was I prepared for the insane and emotional rollercoaster ride that is Winter and Damon. This is the type of book that no matter how much you pump yourself up, prepare yourself for the inevitable, or mentally brace yourself for what’s to come…surprise after twist after turn will bombard your mind and soul with each turn of the page. Good luck with that, my friends because you’re not getting anything else out of me. Happy reading!

Damn this one was soooo good. Wasn’t sure how this one would go, but it did not disappoint!
4.5 stars
“He made himself the cure, which wouldn’t have been necessary if he hadn’t also created the disease.”
I’ve written and re-written this review countless times in my head since finishing this book at 3am this morning, trying to catch some sleep and actually sitting here writing it. And I still have no idea where to begin. It’s like this book sucked my soul right into this epic world, glued it to the pages and has no intention of letting it go. I might have done a deal with the devil.
”Because I can’t feel guilt, sadness, anger or shame as strongly as I can feel fear anymore, and there’s no stronger fear than when I scare myself.”
Corrupt is my absolute favourite in this series and to me it set very high standards which are hard to meet. Kill Switch almost did it. Whereas Corrupt lived form the thrive of angst and thrill of the hunting that made my blood boil and my heart racing, Kill Switch is a slow burn angst that concentrates even more on mind games. You keep on reading because you want to know more, want to dive deeper into the past. The want to understand what makes the characters tick is the drive that lets you turn page after page
”In fact, he was kind of an angel at the end. An angel with really black batwings.”
The character development is phenomenal. I can’t describe this with any other word. The way their past shaped these characters and the way – no matter how wrong it might be – they fight it, is what this story thrives off.
Damon is the perfect bad boy, his soul broken in thousand fragments. Driven by hate hat might have also blindsided him many times, he’s looking for the one thing that was either denied to him or taken from him. Inside he’s still the 11 year old boy that wants to be understood and being loved.
Winter is the perfect antidote for his hate. She’s pure with a strong mind and a golden heart. She can see in Damon what others can’t (well most can’t). She always did, with her heart. Even if she didn’t acknowledged it all those years ago and mistook her love for him as hate.
”You won’t make me dirty. There is no you. There is no me. This is us. Us.”
Damon and Winter danced a dangerous choreography. Push and pull – action and reaction. Always close to the edge of destruction. But watching this dance from the side-lines and getting inside their minds was fascinating. They created a beauty you only understand if you open your mind for it.
”I hated him. He was everything had that happened to me. But he was the time – other than dancing – that I felt alive, too. Being with him was like dancing. Dancing with death.”
Kill Switch should have had a very same one. Penelope Douglas, again, worked her magic blending hate, love, angst, thrill, love, friendship into a smooth dance of black and red. This story makes you see those colours vividly, getting you drunk on their dangerous but fascinating mix, wanting to dance all along without thinking about possible consequences. After Corrupt, this is her next biggest masterpiece of mind games you can’t escape from.
”I’d changed her forever. I’d bent and twisted and broken everything that made her the most beautiful thing that ever happened to me.”
This is the third book in Devil’s nights series and it could be read as a standalone in my own opinion but I would not recommend it, there is so much background story you will miss out on.
Kill Switch is mainly focused on Damon and this is the story of his journey and his struggles from his childhood to adult age.
I must say I was pretty taken aback with his story because I never saw the complicity of it coming.
From the first book Corrupt Damon has been on my very very naughty list and not in a good way and it only got stronger from book two Hideaway.
Honestly I kind of hated the guy and wasn’t sure if he had anything else to bring to the table but boy was I wrong and he redeemed himself bigtime and my feelings towards the Damon changed completely.
Sure I still think he is the black sheep of the group but it’s well needed too.
My heart broke for him so so many times while I was reading and I felt bad for him and everything he had to endure and in the end I found myself being in the Damon corner.
But Damon wasn’t the only one who caught my attention in this book, Will stepped up too and I started seeing him in a completely different light and I am scared of what will come next and break me all over again regarding his own story.
Penelope Douglas did great with Kill Switch as expected and really killed it.
I wasn’t expecting it to be as emotional as it was but I sure loved every word of it and the twists she through in there only added to the already perfect combination.
I will not say anything more in fear of giving some important spoilers away but let’s just say she didn’t disappoint in the steamy hot factor area either *wink wink*.
LOVED IT!!!!!!!
And now we come to the sad part…
The heroine of the book is Winter, a girl that came into Damon’s life when they both were kids and changed it’s whole course in both good and bad way depends on how you see it.
I have to be honest and admit I was struggling with her character a lot.
Can’t really put my finger on it but for my personal liking she didn’t add much to the mix and in some parts regarding her I just wanted to flip the pages sooner than later.
So her “performance” is the only reason why there is a star missing in my review and I can’t help myself, maybe she will play a stronger part in the next book of Devil’s night.
It’s a freaking masterpiece and Penelope Douglas is a mfn genius.
So… I suppose I can officially refer to Penelope Douglas as a miracle worker/sorceress because I just KNEW it would be impossible for me to feel anything other than intense dislike for Damon at best, yet I found myself feeling sorry for him before I even got to the epilogue. Honestly, I have to admit that I actually sorta kinda liked him by the end. Yes, he is HIGHLY problematic and probably has a number of undiagnosed behavioral and psychological disorders, but once you get the full scope of his backstory, can you really blame him? Plus, there are strides made towards redemption and signs of remorse and improvement along the way. I just love the way that PDoug wove this story – just like Corrupt and Hideaway, it’s told in dual first person POV and in multiple timelines so that the full picture is woven together like an intricate tapestry that can’t be fully appreciated until the final word is read. And while Damon and his interpersonal relationships are clearly the highlight of the book (for me at least), Winter was alright too. I think she could hold her own with Rika, Banks, and Alex – so now we have a girl squad just as fierce and dynamic as the Horsemen. Kill Switch also features two of the most masterful plot twists that I have ever experienced in a book. That alone is well worth the price of admission. Question is, now that the gang is back together and we have a clear view of who the ultimate big baddie is, how do we get Will his HEA? 5 out of 5 wine glasses.
You know a book is good when I thought you hated a character from previous books, but at the end, the author has made you fall in love with him. This is Damon, the character I never thought I could like, but that now I love. If you read Hideaway, you think you a lot about Damon’s childhood and way he does what he does. But he has so many more layers, so many more that is reserved only for Winter, that he is like a whole new person in this book. Winter was a great surprise, a strong woman that is not afraid of putting him in his place, and the perfect partner for him. I love all the development we had on the story that is being developed since book one, but at the same time so many new variables were added to the equation. Where will we go on Will’s book? I can’t wait to find.
Seriously. What is there to say beyond this is the book I’ve been waiting a long time to read? I’ve been wanting to see more of what makes Damon tick since Corrupt. And, well, here’s more of Damon.
Dark, deadly, dark…yeah, Damon is…well, Damon. You have to read it to know what happens. I’m not about to spoil this book for you.
Damon is still on the run but it turns out he is right in front of everyone. He plans on paying Winter back for the arrest and prison sentence of three years for him and his friends. Winter is blind due to an accident during childhood. Things are not always what they seem. This story deals with child abuse, underage drinking, drugs. I had tears flowing when reading why Damon was so messed up. Every story in this series has been an awesome read.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving a review.
Just the title of this book had me excited! It sounded bad and oh so good at the same time!! After Corrupt and Hideaway I didn’t have any idea how Damon was going to redeem himself but oh my goodness he did, by a mile!! I was blown away! I think he is my favourite Horseman so far.
An exceptional story with superb writing. Heartbreaking too and I just wanted to comfort Damon myself. And Oh my, the twists!!
I can’t wait to read more about them in Will’s story – when is that released?! Happy waiting though!
Thank you Penelope, we could not have asked for a better story! I absolutely LOVED it!!
I would recommend you read Corrupt and Hideaway before reading Kill Switch – it will help you understand Kill Switch more and love Damon even more!!!
Damon is the one character in this series you can not wait to see meet a timely end, well until now. Penelope dug deep and made this revenge twisted man redeemable; kind of. A leopard really does never lose its spots.
The core of the saga remains within the corrupt town of Meridian City. Secrets are revealed while more are uncovered.
Douglas takes us on a twisted ride through the darkened past of the Torrence family where appearances are never what lives in the dark hearts of men. Is there any redemption on the horizon for Damon? Does the Devil himself deserve love?
Kill Switch will solve the riddles in your mind while digging you deeper into the insanity. Around every corner something lurks in the darkness she can’t see but sometimes the white night wears horns and is worse than what hides.
Another phenomenal piece of the puzzle where the picture is becoming clearer while the edges blur a tad bit more.
I was so excited and nervous to read this book!
Damon is a character who based on the two previous books in the series, seemed almost, if not completely irredeemable.
But there was something about him, tiny hints of vulnerability and humanity that intrigued me to the point of desperately wanting to get in his head.
I’ve been eagerly anticipating this story since Corrupt. It’s been a long time coming and I have to say that Kill Switch was everything I hoped it would be and more!
Reading Damon’s story was truly an emotional experience.
Certain scenes took me FAR outside of my comfort zone.
I was nervous and unsure yet I actually appreciated the scenes because they made sense.
Honestly, my mind was blown, I was in awe as they just reiterated how truly complex Damon’s character is.
The words in this book seemed to breathe.
They were alive and painted vivid pictures in my mind holding me captive until I was utterly consumed and unable to do anything else until I finished reading the story.
Afterward, I was absolutely drained in the BEST way possible.
My advice before diving in?
Keep an open mind and prepare to fall in love with the villain!
Penelope Douglas never ceases to amazing me! I had such high expectations for this book I was truly terrified to start reading it, but as usual she blew me away!
I completely fell in love with Damon. He’s dark, twisted and most of the time out of control but after this book everything completely make since and I understand why he is the way he is.
I loved how the whole group makes such a big appearance in this book! It really made all the stories coming together flawlessly. The twist and surprises in this book literally broke my heart. I just wanted to sit there and cry for the characters. I loved everything about this book. EVERYTHING!
Winter was such a perfect addition to the story. She was such a strong heroine that you couldn’t help but fall in love with.
The only thing I didn’t like about this book? Beside it ending? I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll just say It would have to say a certain hookup between friends. I did not like that at all!!
Else wise the story was perfect and the writing it was it made it a true masterpiece. I cannot wait to see what the author has next for us!
*ARC kindly given for my honest opinion.
Kill Switch, book three in the Devil’s Night series. Highly recommend to read the two previous books first.
I literally “screamed” when this book popped up on my kindle! Kill Switch was intense, delicious dark and twisted. I love me a good mindfuck read, and the author did not disappoint! Wow!
“Because pain in the body quiets the pain in the head. It feels good, like a kill switch for your brain.”
I thought the characters were great, and completed each other. And the author knows how to write hot AF “bedroom scenes”!!
-Stina, A Woman & Her Books.
My mind is once again fully blown.
Penelope Douglas is a magician. She plots so beautifully, she ties every knot and gives you twist after twist, keeping you on your toes the whole time.
Damon is so fucked up. I hated him for so long, but deep down I knew he had some issues and that’s why he acted the way he did. He’s so broken!
Winter, just like Rika and Banks, is a strong heroine. I mean, she HAS to be if she’s going to pair with a Horseman! I loved to see through her eyes, I loved how her POV was described. I loved everything about this book!
If you haven’t picked up this series yet, do yourself a favor… You need the Horseman in your life, you need to feel all the emotions at the same time. YOU NEED THIS!
