“I’ve done far worse than what I went to prison for. She has no idea how bad this can get.”WINTERSending him to prison was the worst thing I could’ve done. It didn’t matter that he did the crime or that I wished he was dead. Perhaps I thought I’d have time to disappear before he got out or he’d cool off in jail and be anything but the horror he was.But I was wrong. Three years came and went too … I was wrong. Three years came and went too fast, and now he’s anything but calm. Prison only gave him time to plan.
And while I anticipated his vengeance, I didn’t expect this.
He doesn’t want to make me hurt. He wants to make everything hurt.
DAMON
First thing’s first. Get rid of her daddy. He told them I forced her. He told them his little girl was a victim, but I was a kid, too, and she wanted it just as much as I did.
Step two… Give her, her sister, and her mother nowhere to run and no fuel to escape. The Ashby women are alone now and desperate for a knight in shining armor.
But that’s not what’s coming.
No, it’s time I listened to my father and took control of my future. It’s time I showed them all–my family, her family, my friends–that I will never change and that I have no other ambition than to be the nightmare of their lives.
Starting with her.
She’ll be so scared, she won’t even be safe in her own head by the time I’m done with her. And the best part is I won’t have to break into her home to do it.
As the new man of the house I have all the keys.
*Kill Switch is a romantic suspense suitable for readers 18+. It is advised to read Corrupt (Devil’s Night #1) and Hideaway (Devil’s Night #2) prior to reading this book.

I savoured this one because I didn’t want it to end. I’ve always admired Penelope Douglas’ ability to make me root for an anti-hero, but I’m blown away by Damon. He’s the ultimate anti-hero but somehow I found myself rooting for him after everything he’s gone through. I never forgot his previous crimes, and I don’t think Penelope Douglas expects the reader to. I imagine we’re supposed to hope for his own version of an HEA in spite of them, and I certainly did. This is dark romance at its absolute best! Why isn’t there a six star option on here? Devil’s Night is one of my favourite series ever and Kill Switch was my top read of 2019.
IT’S FINALLY HERE!!!!!!!
Total rating:
i had this books on preorder pretty much from the day when the preorder link came!!
From the moment I read the excerpt in hideaway, i have been waiting for this novel.
As much as i loved Damon as a Villian, I absolutely have no words for him as a hero. He was amazing!!
when I first read corrupt, I was like, there is no way Damon will get a book!!! but then i saw his Except and his scenes in hideaway and was finally convinced that he was worth redemption.
The best part of this Book was the scenes between damon and Winter when they were younger. Their Chemistry was off the charts and i was just left begging for more of their scenes when the book finally ended!!
And don’t even have me talk about Damon and Will!! I dont think i have still recovered from their scene. It was certainly unexpected!! But worth reading.
this book is for every person who would love to see a former villain redeem himself and also for the bully romance category lovers!!!
Dark, twisted, and absolutely amazing!
I’ve loved this whole series from the beginning and loved all of the characters, but Damon who I loved to hate.
Loved Kill Switch and still kind of love to hate Damon, maybe lean a little more to love after learning everything he had been through.
Winter is everything good to Damon’s dark and twisted and their untraditional story is one that you won’t forget.
Penelope Douglas has given us another dark, twisted story that will that will absolutely consume you. Cannot wait for the next book!
You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch… my heart melted reading the way you love your marvelous Winter, your beautiful sister Banks, and your best friend Will. My heart hurt so much by your pain that I cheered for you and will cheer for you until the end of the series. There are many things that support in my opinion why Kill Switch might be the best in the series so far, first, the growth and strength of each character as individuals, as a couple and as friends is delightful, raw, complex and so natural. Second, the love story between Damon and Winter is very romantic, emotional, sexy, and so sweet. Third, Penelope Douglas didn’t make any of the protagonist a victim even though they were, but instead she made them real, vulnerable as well as brave, lovelies as well as cruel, lost as well as centered. Fourth, the plot got bigger, clearer and the author interconnected all three books in the series in a way that you will say OhMyGod, plenty of times. And last, Kill Switch is a fantastic mind game book with non stop action that got me on my toes from beginning to end with it many twists, revelations, and a rollercoaster of emotions. Damon is a lovely, heartwarming, raw, complex, and beautiful antihero, dayum Damon is brilliant. I can’t wait for the last book in the series.
I finished this yesterday and I’m still trying to process my thoughts. I don’t think I’ve ever been so consumed by a series as I have with the Devil’s Nights. It is, without a doubt, my all-time favorite. Penelope Douglas’s writing is intoxicating. Her books are my drugs and I’m an addict. I can’t get enough. Even now as I start another reread through the series.
Kill Switch was everything I wanted and didn’t know I needed. The emotions – my God, the emotions. It was a full blown assault on my heart and soul. And I LOVED it.
Damon – I knew I would love him. By the end of Hideaway, I was cheering for him. I’m still amazed that he survived that house of horrors and I’m not just referring to prison. And to find and be drawn to Winter – pure, innocent, sweet Winter – it was the one bright thing in his life. The one thing he had to look forward to. And to have it ripped away in such a traumatic way, my heart broke for him.
Winter, she’s absolutely perfect for Damon. She doesn’t back down from him and she’s just so strong. I am really loving how strong the women are in this series. They don’t stand in the shadows, they rule alongside their men. They’re partners, but they have no problem stepping into leadership roles too.
And speaking of leaders, I am so loving Rika stepping up in the Queen Bee role. She has grown so much since Corrupt and I totally agree with Damon that “Michael had barely untapped everything she was capable of.”
Kill Switch is going to take me a long time to get over. I probably never will. And I am totally okay with that.
I have no words.
I’ve been waiting for this book since discovering the Devil’s Night series a few months ago, and I latched onto Damon from the moment he hit the pages. Michael was fascinating, Kai was sweet, Will has demons, but Damon… What can I say? I clearly have issues. I always want the baddest bad of them all.
This book is a roller coaster of emotion. Frustration, bafflement, devastation, annoyance – yes all those emotions come with the actions of Damon. There are moments when you just want to throttle him, and yet…
And yet ….
I’m not going to post spoilers. If you’ve read Corrupt and Hideaway, you’ll go into this book thinking how the fuck can someone so evil be redeemed.
This book is EVERYTHING it needs to be.
I’m nursing a book hangover and I’m not entirely sure there’s a cure for this one.

*TW for s*xual abuse, pedoph*lia and self h@rm*
Wow!! This might be the only hyped book I freaking adored in a long time!! Hands down best book in the series and best couple so far.
Damon Torrance, one of the biggest villains in the series, but also one of the best characters out there. His evolution thru the series is incredible. Specially on this book, because we get to be in his mind and understand him. He is such a complicated character. He has been thru a lot of abuse and neglect, but yet he has one of the kindest hearts out there. When I’m telling you he is such a softie for Winter, I’m not lying. Literally he always pursued her and did anything to make her happy
Then we have Winter, aka one of the strongest girls out there. I thought she would be docile kind of girl, but actually she is trouble. She might have a disability, but her strength and bravery is so inspirational. She always spoke whatever she felt, without being afraid of the consequences. And that’s what Damon needs in his life.
Their relationship evolution might be one of the prettiest stories out there. The flashbacks from when they were younger made me smile and cry at the same time. They went from being friends to enemies to lovers and it all formed organically, exactly how I like it. In present time, they have insane chemistry which lead to incredible smutty scenes (we all know Penelope knows how to write those scenes).
Honestly these two characters deserve all the love and hype they get. I could talk about them all day and night and never get tired. If you haven’t read the series yet, do it right now!! I definitely think you should read it in order tho, to get a better experience.
/5 /5

I finished KS on June 19th and I did not post a review on the day of like I usually do because I did not have the emotional stability to do so. Now, I have come to the conclusion I still don’t have it. This book is probably one of the best books I have ever read in a series and writing this review in a way it will do it justice will be extremely difficult.
I never in my life thought Penelope would make me feel so much all at once, and I never imagined she would also made me fall in love with Damon. Kill Switch makes me thing the entire Devil’s Night series was written just so Damon’s story could be told. He is the main character. You can’t change my mind.
One of the most complex and well crafted character development I have seen in years. I swear to God. Both main characters of this book are multi layered, unforgettable, intense and unique. I usually don’t cry while reading books but I have cried at least twice with this one. My heart was racing, my palms sweating, the world disappeared around me and I was inside Damon and Winter’s world and I did not want to leave. I could not for the life of me stop reading and I still did not want this to end. This was breathtaking, shocking, my heart melted, cried, shook, felt joy, anger, love, passion, fire, madness. Exactly what Damon is supposed to make you feel. Penelope was already one of my favorite authors of all times, but after this book, she has more than just my respect. She is one of the greatest authors of our generation and you can’t change my mind.
Tragic, romantic, a massive page-turner, whimsical, steamy, unpredictable, haunting and one of the most original books I have ever read in my life. The Devil’s Night is yours Damon.
I spend every free minute reading this book. Despite what Damon did in the first two books of the Devil’s Night series I already bordered on”not disliking” him. The reader got glimpses of his past in Hideaway and it already made me feel for him. Seeing (reading) his interactions with Winter in Kill Switch quickly made that border blur and disappear. Winter was the perfect match for Damon and brought out the human in him again. Penelope Douglas did an extraordinary job in portraying Winter and how she experiences life with her disability. This is by far one of my favorite books I read this year.
Oh Damon
Now this is one dude I just never could see being able to redeem himself.
But as these scenes were being read I knew he was going to get his moment. Top two being the water fountain maze and Marco/Polo. They showed Damon’s heart and playfulness.
Really scared I wasn’t going to enjoy this one like I did the first two but I was wrong.
For me, this series is without a doubt a masterpiece. The first time I picked this book, I was up all night simple because I just couldn’t stop reading.
I have a soft spot for bad boys and the way Pen developed these characters was just completely mind blowing.
Damon and Winter had to deal with almost everything and that just made it easier to understand how much they complete and are perfect for each other.
“There’s always a reason why things are as they are.”
Finally the moment I was waiting for since the beginning of this series.
DAMON
He is definitely the most dark , sinful , and twisted soul ever.
He is different , in any sort of way . He is all darkness and mind games.
“You were the only loner I knew who hated being alone”
He brings us in the essence of devil’s night .
We finally have the opportunity to see what’s behind his mask .
A man who has been hurt since his childhood , he is damaged , in pieces .
He is a really complex character , you’ll hate him at first but then he’ll grow on you too .
He has been abused in one of the worst possible way , and that surely changed him.
“Because pain in the body quiets the pain in the head. It feels good, like a kill switch for your brain.”
But then something cracked his black heart , someone.
Winter is his match. She’s a strong , smart , brave and independent woman .
And she’s the object of Damon’s need for revenge . She’s the one who accused him of rape and sent him to prison . And now he’s going to ruin her life .
She lost her vision when she was 8 . And after that everyone treated her like he was a porcelain’s doll . But not Damon . He challenged her , he made her feel normal , alive.
“the beauty in life is what we live for, and it’s everywhere. You just have to look closer.”
And she loved to fight him back . Then things got complicated.
Their journey wasn’t easy . There was so much angst , resentment , but also the strongest sexual tension ever . It was a rollercoaster of emotions with no end .
You’ll love , you’ll cry , you’ll have the need to scream but at the end your heart will be filled with the best kind of emotions.
“Our life is a series of plans,” she finally said. “Days, weeks, months, years… And then, there are moments. Moments you don’t see coming and you don’t plan, but everything you need, all the things you want to feel, are in that moment.”
One of the best read of 2020 for sure.
I gave it 5435456 stars.
I hope you’ll enjoy it like I did.
ENJOY!
Kill Switch is the third book in Penelope Douglas’ Devil’s Nights series. This one I have been waiting forever to start reading because it’s Damon Torrance’s book. The moment he was introduced in the first book, I knew I would either hate him or love him. Penelope Douglas is one author I know can get me out of a reading funk.
Female Protagonist: Winter has to be one of my favorite female characters in the series (so far). I mean, I liked Rika, but Winter is someone that has overcome so much. She comes from a family that protects her due to her disability. She doesn’t want them to protect her, though. Everyone considers her as fragile, pure, and innocent, but she isn’t. At least she doesn’t come off as those qualities by the end of the book.
Male Protagonist: Damon Torrance is what I would consider my favorite Anti-Hero. I know some readers can’t stand him, but for some reason, I always love the male protagonist that is a villain at first and then turn into a hero. Yes, he’s awful, but you have to understand where he came from and what he has been through in his life. He’s never really been loved in the right way. I felt for his character. I felt for him more after finding out some secrets that came to light in this book.
Storyline/My Thoughts: First off, this book and series are not for the faint of heart. It’s dark and twisted. The book is told in dual POVs, with Damon and Winter telling their side of the story. Penelope Douglas has them go back and forth to the past and present, which gives the readers an idea of how the characters met and why they are the way they are currently. These two characters met each other at a very young age, and Damon has been fascinated with Winter for a long time.
Damon wants revenge after Winter sent him to prison several years ago for statutory rape. He’s going to make her world difficult by getting rid of her father and bringing her mother and sister under his control. He is very possessive of Winter in the story, but she knows how to handle him in her way. I don’t want to give anything away so that I won’t go into the storyline.
Penelope Douglas writes a very long story for Damon and Winter. It took me a while to finish this book, but I was determined. I thought Corrupt was dark and twisted, but Penelope Douglas took it to another level with Damon and Winter’s book. This book involves a lot of mind tricks from Damon and other characters towards Winter. Winter is not someone that will back down, though. Secrets will be revealed in this book that I figured out earlier in the book.
Standalone or Part of Series: Part of series. I would recommend reading each book in order.
Steaminess: Very Steamy.
Trope/Elements: Enemies to Lovers, Second Chance at Romance (somewhat), First Love and Menage (M-F-M)
Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you are a fan of Penelope Douglas and her writing style, you’ll enjoy this book. This is a Dark Romantic Suspense book that involves quite a bit of warnings and triggers, which I list below. Penelope Douglas is one of those authors who writes fictional worlds where it’s not happily ever afterworld. It’s tragic and warped. I give this book five stars and look forward to diving into Will’s book.
Warnings/Triggers: Statutory Rape, Child Sexual Abuse, Violence, Death, Self-Harm (Cutting, etc.)
This story was literally phenomenal! It was by far the best of this series yet. After reading Corrupt and especially Hideaway, I was sure I hated Damon but really curious how Pen was going to weave his story to make me love him as much as she did Michael and Kai. I knew if my opinion changed at all it would be a miracle. Well, she was successful because I fell head over heels in love with Damon!
Kill Switch was everything I expected and ten times more! Winter was beautiful in every way and I loved that she was a dancer that wasn’t affected by limitations of any kind. She was the perfect counter to Damon. To a certain degree, she held no fear of him. In her, he became a better version of himself.
I love how all the events unfolded throughout this book. We see Damon as a young boy, teenager and man as the author goes from past to present and back again. My favorite moments were those giving us a glimpse of Damon that his friends didn’t know but we see in how he interacted with Winter.
This series weaves together as truths are found and more puzzle pieces are revealed. Each book comes with some answers as characters from previous books cement their place in this ever evolving group of friends. I can’t wait to get Will’s story, the final book in this amazing series.
Hideaway
Devil’s Night Series, Book 2
By: Penelope Douglas
Narrated by: Tatiana Sokolov, Jeremy York
Dark, Delicious and tantalizing, Penelope Douglas draws us into the life of Damon and Winter. The two have a history, from the time they were children. Years go by, good memories made, bad circumstances occur and we find them together again, only he is married to her sister. Douglas creates a web of innocence and depravity weaving between past and present that will captivate you. I have to say, there were quite a few times I couldn’t even fathom how Damon could ever redeem himself from his sins. It’s a book that you can’t put down, imperative to continue and find out just what happened. Damon is quite the character, extremely dark except with Winter. Winter is somewhat of an innocent, yet very adept. She is definitely curious and will through caution to the wind. I loved their story and though their discretions, it’s truly a beautiful romance. Twists and turns will leave you speechless and the big plus is we get to see all the Horsemen and the women we have gotten to know. It’s a fabulous listen.
Tatiana Sokolov and Jeremy York give a haunting performance you can’t forget. These two continue their amazing narration, each in tune with their characters. I love when an author uses the the same narrators for a series, and these two consistently bring each voice from book to book. It’s a narration you don’t want to miss.

Omg I was so looking forward to Damon’s book. Hes totally insane and unbelievably messed up in the head. I was wondering how in the heck he would make a comeback. Crazy. This book was amazing. Winter as the heroine was cool. The storyline was a rollercoaster and I loved the back and forth ! The love and hate crossed lines many times, but it was worth it. So strange. Alex is also everywhere and I’m here for it!! Lol I love it!!! I also finished Conclave today after I finished Killswitch today. Nightfall #4is live now and you know I bought the ebook on Kindle! Yayy !! I LOVE DAMON!!!
“How did he always break my heart, especially in the ways I loved.”
So I actually feel a bit weird about my rating on this one. On one hand, this is my favorite book of the Devil’s Night series and Damon and Winter quickly became my favorite DN characters and couple. But, when I’m torn between 4 and 5 stars I go with my gut. Usually I like to be sure about my 5 stars. Anyway, now that I’ve taken note of that, onto the review!
Damon Torrance and Winter Ashby have a history, a messy, mysterious, painful past with one another. Damon wants to hurt Winter the way she hurt him; he wants to get inside her head. Winter is angry with Damon over what happened before he went to prison, but I think she’s also afraid to not be angry with him… These two are perfect for one another. Although there is plenty of lust, there is something sweet and innocent about young Damon and Winter. Damon believes in her and supports her. Winter brings beauty and light to him.
Some of my favorite scenes between them included the fountain, the driving, shaving, the Grinch, the pranks… There are just so many beautiful and pure scenes between these two. This book was slower than the other two in my opinion, but I think that was necessary. Damon and Winter had a long way to go in their relationship development and it’s not something that could have been rushed.
My least favorite part of this book, similar to the other books, is a scene involving Will, Damon, and Winter. This one was more tolerable than the one in Corrupt, but still very aggravating to me. That aside, I really enjoyed this book. I love Damon and Winter so much, I’m greedy for more of them.
Kill Switch is a dark romantic suspense story and I would not recommend reading this as a standalone. This book has a ton of triggers, some of which include: pedophilia, sexual abuse, rape, and self-harm, so tread carefully.
One of my favorite books! I love the author so much
Damon will always be my favorite horseman. There I said it. ALWAYS.
The infatuation is REAL.
I’ve given a lot of thought to what makes this book and Damon/Winter’s story so different for me. I feel it on a different level than the other horseman. When I stop to write a review or tell someone how much I love it, assuming they haven’t read it, I have no words. I honestly don’t know how to explain my feelings without going into explicit detail, so here’s my best shot.
I’m in love with how Damon doesn’t give an F about what people think about him. He is going to do what he wants to do regardless of public opinion or consequence. He knows what he wants, and he goes for it. As much as I wanted to throat punch him in Corrupt, all I want to do is hug him in Kill Switch. Because at the end of the day, he’s just that little boy in the fountain.
Winter is his perfect match. The anti-venom to his reactive strike. Full of games they play with each other is manic. Their story is full of angst and heart-stopping moments that I wouldn’t want any different.
I can never just move on from reading Kill Switch. Damon’s like a drug that I need a full detox from before going anywhere else.
I think Penelope is one of the few people who could make me fall for someone like Damon.
Damon is dark and twisted. A product of his upbringing. In his own dark delicious way, he cares. He doesn’t have a ‘normal’ right and wrong decision making.
Winter is one of the very few people who can actually ‘see’ him.
Their journey is not for the faint of heart. It is painful. It is raw. And it proves, everyone has someone out there just for them.
