Chris Summer was a 21 year old call centre worker and a drop out. A nobody, still living at home with his parents. Then one day the Man in White came to his family’s house, offering a seemingly impossible choice: kill a random stranger – one of Chris’ choosing – within twelve days in order to save the lives of five kidnapped siblings. Refuse, and they die slowly and painfully. The clock is ticking, the Man in White is watching, and Chris has some very important choices to make.
This is a tale of fear, indecision, confused masculinity and brutal violence; a story of a coddled young man thrust into a world of sharp metal and bone.
Ask yourself if you could do it. Then ask yourself who you would choose.

It was an amazing read. I couldn’t put it down. The ending you will never suspect but when it happens you might think that you wondered if that was against the rules or not, like I did. It is a very suspenseful read.
Okay, folks, I know I say I love every book, but this one I just liked very very much. It kept you reading to see what happens next but in my opinion the ending just fizzled out. It left me hanging like “really? that’s it” and so it left me expecting another book, but there isn’t one. I was kind of expecting more back story on a few people, too, but you don’t really get much. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the book and couldn’t put it down, but was kind of left wanting. I’ll have to read another from this author to see if it’s just that book or if it’s the author’s writing style.
This is another great read by Luke Smitherd, and in my opinion this is one of his best works yet! The complex situation into which the everyman character is thrust makes it both relatable and thought-provoking. You can’t help but think what you would/might do if you were in his shoes. The way the story progressed and was resolved made sense and was satisfying to me. I’ve seen others comment on the length of this book, saying that it was too short, but I felt that it was just right, I feel that if it had gone on longer it would have lost it’s tension and power. Another satisfying read, and as usual I can’t wait to see what Luke comes up with next.
Well-written and entertaining. “Twisted” fits this pretty good. “Disturbing” is probably better. The whole concept of this story was hard to endure; made me feel like I was an awful person to just continue to read it. But I did, and it came with an ending that left me emotionally confused. This may sound like a bad thing, but it really isn’t. The best books do make you FEEL, and this one did. (But just from a fictional book perspective – I would not want to feel like that in “real life.”)
This is a very Twisted story…but a good read!
plot is different. a real page turner for me
Outstanding, Dark, Psychological Thriller! This was an extremely interesting read. Dark and twisted, and hard to shut your brain down afterwards. It will consume your every thought!!! You will be left wondering, just what it is you would do…
Two words: Torture porn. Unreadable.
Very creative writer & suspenseful
Weird, but couldn’t put it down.
Great read!
I feel to enjoy this book you have to be a little twisted. If you are like me and just reading the books description made you pick it up then keep reading.
I found the idea of the story pretty twisted and for the most part I really enjoyed it. I felt drawn in and wanting to know what happened and what choices where made. I feel the author pulled off the mindset of a young 21 year old slacker perfectly due to all his mental whining. However that same whining is why I didnt give 5 stars. Towards the end it was annoying. I would still recommend this book and have in fact to a few people already. But be careful with this one when recommending. The person might think differently of you based on the story.
