Suspense and romance combine in Susan Sleeman’s thrilling new novel about an FBI agent who must team up with a beautiful therapist to stop a killer with a deadly new weapon. Some fears haunt you forever…. As the ballistics and weapon’s expert for the FBI’s special task force nicknamed the White Knights, Rick Cannon has known the Department of Defense was developing self-steering bullets. Rick … Defense was developing self-steering bullets. Rick feared these smart bullets–which have one hundred percent accuracy that can turn even a novice into a lethal sniper–would eventually end up in the hands of the wrong people. But since the ammunition was still in the development stage, he figured they had plenty of time before that happened. He was wrong. Dead wrong.
Until they become reality.
When a homeless vet is killed with a smart bullet, it’s clear that the ammunition has been stolen, and the Knights are called in to find the thief and stop the killings. But they aren’t the only ones desperate to find the killer. Therapist Olivia Dobbs is well known for her success in counseling military veterans with PTSD. When she discovers one of her clients moments after he is murdered, she becomes both the FBI’s prime witness, and suspect.
Despite the mutual attraction that immediately sparks between them, Rick can’t–no he won’t–let Olivia interfere with his investigation. But when the sniper trains his rifle on her, Rick must recall all the skills he learned as a Marine sniper to make sure the next bullet fired isn’t a kill shot that takes Olivia out.more
Ms Sleeman once again gives us a story that grabs you from the start. This is a Christian suspense romance, with the emphasis on the suspense.
The main characters are FBI weapons expert, Rick Cannon and Olivia Dobbs, a therapist specializing in vets with PTSD. Both are strong, independent individuals. The plot is engaging and it’s obvious that the author did extensive research on self-steering bullets. That alone was an education.
As others review the plot extensively, I will go a different route.
What I appreciated most was the author’s insightfulness in the fact that our experiences as children and how we are treated by the adults we trust will in fact affect who we become as adults. Those past experiences, hurts, lack of attention , feelings of worthlessness, are ingrained in our personalities. Invisible walls are built to protect ourselves, and only we can take them down , become happy, and lead a peaceful life.
I also appreciated the fact that Ms Sleeman highlights the recurrence of PTSD on the returning troops. We , as a society, need to do more to help those brave men and women who sacrifice their lives to keep us safe. A need also exist to support their families.
So, kudos to the author . I was gifted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Susan Sleeman wows me yet again with her fantastic characters and a storyline that kept me guessing the entire book. Like seriously there were twists even in the last couple chapters that were crazy! But I am always impressed by how Ms. Sleeman gives me some clues but keeps me guessing in the end. She executes this wonderfully in Kill Shot. The second book in the White Knights series.
The White Knights is a highly impressive FBI team that deals with any case they need too. They have experts in crisis management, explosives, ballistics/weapons, negotiating/crime profiling, cyber crimes, and forensic. This book is about Rick Cannon who is the hostage rescue and ballistics expert on the team. It also features Olivia Dobbs, a therapist who specializes in PTSD patients. Olivia and Rick are thrown together when a self steering bullet murders one of Olivia’s patients. She discovers him moments after he is murdered which makes her the FBI’s prime witness and suspect. Despite the mutual attraction between the two, both Olivia and Rick are determined to focus on the case and ignore their feelings. But when a sniper trains his rifle on Olivia, Rick will have to fight hard to make sure that the next bullet fired doesn’t hit Olivia.
Rick was such a strong character, but he was also a sweetheart underneath all of his tough, agenty exterior. While sometimes I wanted to shake him for not believing Olivia, I was also so sad for him. I don’t want to give anything away, but there are a lot of issues that Rick has to work through. And it was sweet to watch Olivia help him even when Rick tried to push away. But, I think that Olivia also had to learn to put up boundaries and respect other people’s boundaries. I think that it made a lot of sense that her character was like that though because she is a therapist. She did learn how to put up some boundaries, but it took a lot of hard lessons that were very sad to read about.
The suspense as usual was amazing. There were so many different things going on, but they were all tied together perfectly. There were also some happy surprises that I definitely needed. But, also some hard ones where you can really see how much people need God’s mercy and love in their lives. On that note this is a Christian romantic, suspense, so a clean book with some Christian elements. While the romance is very clean, there are some more intense scenes. Rick attends some autospies in the book, and there is not a lot of description, but there are some. And there are quite a few murders where the characters see the bodies, but nothing too scary like I said before not a lot of description. I would definitely recommend this riveting and romantic book!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
Awesome book
This is the second in the White Knights series and even though I loved the first one this is my favorite. Kept me guessing and turning pages…staying up late into the night also.
Wow! Edge of your seat action and heart pounding suspense! Add a dash of faith, hope, and romance and was I staying up well past my bedtime to make sure the hero, Rick, and heroine, Olivia, made it to their happily ever after. I would normally say that military style novels are not my reading preference, but authors like Susan Sleeman and Ronie Kendig are changing my mind!
3/7/2021 Listened to this book in an audio edition and narrator, Rachel Dulude, does a great job of bringing characters to life and creating the right tension for a romantic suspense.
Every clue seems to lead to a dead end…literally
Another nail-biting novel from master of romantic suspense, Susan Sleeman! In Kill Shot the stakes are higher than ever as readers are taken on a wild ride of danger, betrayal, and romance.
While I have to confess that I did like book 1 a little better, I did enjoy every chilling minute trying to puzzle things out alongside Rick and Olivia in Kill Shot. And I was definitely in for a few surprises along the way!
Susan Sleeman really is one of my favorite authors and I’m seriously looking forward to more spine-tingling adventures of the White Knights. Not to mention, it’s always fun getting to ‘visit’ with characters that have become old friends.
(I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are entirely my own.)
This is the second book in this series that I have read, and yes, they can be read alone, but if you like mystery don’t miss either of these.
Some of our friends are back, and we have a top-secret weapon missing, and people using it to take out former snipers.
The author has us dealing with some really tough subjects here, mainly PTSD, and how it effects the lives of so many people.
Soon all seem to be running for their lives, and the FBI team is trying to find the perpetrator, who are they after and why?
There is a little romance here, but there is also action around every corner, and these people go to any length and don’t care how many innocents they harm.
A read that is going to keep you page turning, you have to know!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher FaithWords, and was not required to give a positive review.
Sleeman knows how to write romantic inspirational fiction with a knife-edge suspense twist, plenty of heart-pounding action, adrenaline flowing danger all while plunging the reader in the middle! You’ll find yourself stepping into the characters like a well fitted suit and running for your life. Follow along the many twists & turns as you race to find the killer before he strikes again! I can see this story written in a future newspaper headline about its fantastical advanced military weaponry falling into the wrong hands. Bone-chilling stuff!
Kill Shot Is a suspenseful romance, one that is difficult for them to get together. Boy howdy – what will it take? The book is very dramatical but very suspenseful with Love now how can that fail? You have the FBI working with the local police, can you believe that – awesome isn’t that? Now they are hunting down a serial killer – cool eh? Will they be able to find whoever it is before it is too late? Will they give in to their own true feelings? Will they even admit that they even exist? I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all of the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

loved the story, if you like suspense and romance you will love the book
I loved both of the main characters in this book! Rick and Olivia are so well developed that I was able to really connect with each of them. They each have hang ups that made it easy to just see them as real people. It was comforting to me that Olivia, the therapist that was able to help others sort out their problems, had a ton of problems when it came to dealing with her own family.
I loved getting to know more about the members of the White Knights team. Seeing how they interact with each other was great. They are the rough and tough protectors. Yet at the same time they had personal vulnerabilities, making them very human.
The plot of this story was so intense that I was sucked into the story and I knew that I wouldn’t be able to let it go without finishing it. I HAD to find out who had the smart bullets and why they were killing the people that they were.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I have chosen to write this review to express my personal opinion.

This is the second book that I’ve read by Susan Sleeman. I discovered her books on a Scavenger Hunt sponsored by several authors. I was hooked when I read the blurb on Fatal Mistake. The next morning I called a local bookstore & they had it in stock. By the fourth chapter I called the bookstore and had the order Kill Shot. I was hooked. Fantastic plot, suspense, spine tingling chills and great character development. Kill Shot is the second in the series but it can be read as a stand alone.
I bought this book and no one asked me to write a review. All opinions are my own and I can honestly say I will be reading more books by Susan Sleeman. She immediately went onto my favorite authors list at the indy. bookstore I buy from. They pre-order my books by aujthor’s names and that way I don’t miss their books. Highly recommend Susan Sleeman’s books if you love Christian romantic suspense. I don’t do 5 star reviews unless the author captures my attention, touches my heart or emotions or writes a page turner. This book did all three.
I did NOT want this book to end! All I can say is that the book is amazing! No surprise when the author is Susan Sleeman but her White Knight series just keeps get better! The attention to detail in Kill Shot is mind boggling! I can’t imagine the research she did for this story! Page after page is just SO good and so realistic! A homeless military veteran gets shot and killed by a “smart” bullet that was part of stolen technology from a company developing the cutting edge technology and the FBI team called the “White Knights” is called in to quietly solve the case so word doesn’t get out about this super secret technology that is out there “on the streets” somewhere in the hands of a ruthless killer. When the killings continue, the race is on to find the killer and get these bullets off the streets before they are sold to some foreign country or terrorist group. Rick is the lead on the case this time and he wants to catch the killer while shutting down his emotions because the scene of the crime is in Atlanta where he grew up and he is estranged from his family. The psychiatrist who was working with the homeless vet who was shot, and actually found his body, was Dr. Olivia Dodds and she must work with the FBI team to help find the killer because all the killing become related, plus the killer starts coming after her! She starts to “analyze” Rick about his estrangement to his family, which he doesn’t like but she has big family issues of her own. Like I said, a FANTASTIC book and one I couldn’t put down! The twists and turns and suspense leave you wanting to find out how everything will turn out so you have to read faster! Ms. Sleeman is a master at this genre and I highly recommend this book!
