I really liked the series.
just started to read on my kindle app. it’s very interesting and on my top list of hard to stop reading to sleep.
I read all these books separately and rated them that way as well. This is a YA series revolving around Jacob and him finding out he’s not from Earth and that he’s a prince and has to save his family. Andrea does a great job at world building and really taking you into the world. The descriptions are great. If you are a YA fan or have a younger reader this is a great series about magic.
I really wanted to like this series. The story feels like a first draft by a very talented young homeschooled author with a fantastical imagination. The first book came in strong but somehow the MC lives in a world where commonsense doesn’t exist. His parents are brutally attacked and father and sister kidnapped; then he abandons his enemy-to-love interest in a weird city that no rational person would do… Meanwhile he’s trying out for basketball with a coach who joins his family for a meal but doesn’t realize he plays basketball? All the while he is so good that he rocks with another high school’s team all to get a chance to play in a lunchtime friendly gym game that also happens to be strictly guarded by the coach’s son? Somewhere in there he’s also training and zipping around on unsanctioned quests (ie being reckless and stupid) but also feel awful getting scolded by some random character AND surrendering the only thing that gives him real power with NO pushback (clearly has never met or been a teenage boy with that one…).
The author has learned about high school from watching OneTreeHill and is more fantastical than the world building … truly, it is painful to read at times.
I really tried to like this and power through it… but half-way through the third book when his love interest from another freaking world playing exchange student (? WTF?) is now flirting with his high school archnemesis (because despite having his entire home planet full of people needing him and overpowered enemies he’s still attending high school on Earth and has time for archnemeses named Kevin [not joking]) and this badass? Yeah he’s pouting over a girl he risked his life to save.
It’s just stupid.
Very interesting fantasy story
The book has three stories together chronicling Jacob’s life as the heir of the kingdom where magic runs deep.
Jacob’s introduction to the world was well brought out. The world building through the three stories was great and I enjoyed it. The later story developments as Jacob tries to balance his life as the true heir and his real life is brought out well. The third story marks Jacob’s interests and how the story develops with more characters within the world built. Enjoyed it.
Forsaken Prince(The Key of Kilenya rewrite)- This book is the rewritten version of “The Key of Kilenya”, book 1 in the Kilenya Chronicles. The beginning starts off just right with action and revealed secrets. This time we are not overwhelmed with a barrage of characters all at the beginning. Great for teens and adults alike. A fun and mysterious book that is so well written, it draws you into a whole new world. Magic, monsters, and mythical beings make up this new universe. This is a clean read with no sex or swearing. However, the fighting is intense. This book does have a small cliffhanger, however, the main storyline for this book is concluded satisfactorily.
The Ember Gods- Another 5 star book by Andrea Pearson! The big mystery continues through the entire series, but we do see a must-have conclusion in the saving of a friend left behind in the first book. Jacob’s (the main character) family gets more involved and supportive of his dreams and responsibilities. I may be an adult, but I really love this series so far. A fairly quick read (Under 3 Hours) just before bed.
August Fortress- The twists and turns of this continuing epic just keep coming. Jacob learns about sacrifices and how far he will go to protect his people. He also learns more about his past. An awww moment towards the end gave me a happy thrill (no spoilers). Loved this book and I’m on to #4.
Amazing read, exciting fro start to finish
I have read all three books separately but looking back I can see that buying the set all together is a much better deal. Not only that, you don’t have to wait between books. You start the next book right after the previous one without any breaks.
The Forsaken Prince
Goes on a quest with some very unique characters to find his father the king and his sister. They have plenty of adventures along the way with some high action and tense moments to keep the reader in suspense.
Ember Gods
Some fantastic characters, great world building, and very well written. A very exciting and intense fight with the Fire Turners, who like to call themselves Ember Gods, was a very imaginative page turner.
August Fortress
Jacob has many disappointments, hardships and harrowing experience in this third book of Kilenya Chronicles. The ultimate goal in this book is to reach August Fortress where the Shiengol warriors have been trapped there by the Lorkons who have put several traps around the area that make it difficult for anyone to get in or out.
All three of these books were a wonder. I would not hesitate to recommend them for all YA readers who love fantasy and intrigue.
What a fabulous series about Jacob and learning all about him. Ms. Pearson did a fabulous job with his story and moving between the two worlds in which he is a kid going to school and his “history/legacy”. Fascinating for sure!
not my type of literature
The book started slow but build gradually riveting
Good story but needs to move along quicker.
Really engaging!
I LOVED this series and can’t wait to read more. I really liked the powers that the characters had and the number of times they had to defend themselves from attacks. The story was very creative. (11 year old boy – advanced reader)
My 12 old son loved this series and wants the next. He really enjoys this type book.
A great story. I had to read all the books
I found this to be entertaining. The characters could have been developed a little more – there thoughts and feelings were often mentioned but not really given much time. That was OK though – the books were quick reads and I still got invested in the characters and enjoyed their story.
This was an amazing and entertaining box set for a new series for me. Great action and adventure and kept me reading for more. As a teenager, everything is normal for Jacob until he finds out he’s the son of a king who is from another planet. While connections are possible between both planets, he soon finds out an evil dictator has taken over his father’s kingdom. This is a great series if you enjoy reading Andrea Pearson books

I totally adored Andrea Pearson’s Kilenya Chronicles and read (gobbled up) each book as it became available for download. And now there’s a boxset of books 1-3. I wish I’d had that from the start as it sure is convenient. For those new to this wonderful literary world, here are my reviews of those three books.
Forsaken Prince (Kilenya Chronicles Book 1)
I actually read the original version of this book, The Key of Kilenya, way back when it came out. I loved that so I couldn’t resist getting this one when it came out. I’m glad I did. The original one (still available) was perfectly designed and appropriate for a middle school audience, even though adults could enjoy it, the same way as I totally enjoyed the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson books my son read at that age. This book is designed to be a grown up, matured version of that tale. It’s plot, while clearly based on the earlier version, is significantly changed. This is both in minor details and in more obvious plot details. The minor changes, such as its lead character, Jacob, starting out a few years older (16 instead of 14), can actually be pretty significant. The author is being subtle here as this enables that character to legitimately have more mature thoughts in general and to have have more mature romantic and other drivers behind his actions. The more obvious changes really do change major parts of the storyline, things like Jacob’s dad and sister getting kidnapped by the Lorkon, and Aloren being hired to bring Jacob to the Makalos. Despite these changes the basic fabric of the story, with its sense of wonder, excitement and adventure, is preserved. That’s a very good thing as this now very much revised tale is a very wonderful story. For those who read the original before I definitely recommend this new, if clearly related, story. For newcomers, you’re in for a treat. Personally I’m looking forward to seeing what’s been done to the other books. Highly recommended.
Ember Gods (Kilenya Chronicles Book 2)
I loved the original Ember Gods, book 2 of Andrea Pearson’s original Kilenya series (which can still be purchased on Kindle). This despite that fact that I was already several multiple times it’s targeted middle school aged audience. It was a magical tale with a gripping story that held me just as much as similarly targeted stories (Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, et al) managed to do. Now the author has done a remake of that story for her new Kilenya Chronicles, which is target at a young adult and mature adult audience. This is no simple editing of ages with minor tweaks. Instead it is a substantial rewrite, and yet it holds true to that original story and still gives the reader that same sense of wonder. The cast of (somewhat older) characters is wonderfully crafted (with matured emotions and approach to relationships, life crises, etc) and the plot works beautifully and is very (very) well written. I can’t tell which version I prefer, but I can say they are both superb and I’m happy to highly recommend this book (though it’s best to read book 1 in the series first).
August Fortress (Kilenya Chronicles Book 3)
This is book three of the Kilenya series, and I strongly recommend reading the first two books in the series before this one. Having said that, it’s a highly addictive series so I doubt anyone will have any problems doing that. As with the prior books, August Fortress is s great book of magical adventures with strong characters that continue to develop and a neat storyline. A really fun read no matter what your age is, and easy to recommend.
