Love breaks the offside rule in New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken’s irresistibly sexy Red Card romance. Successful, high-profile sports agent Matt Kingston thinks he can handle anything. Then soccer player Parker Speedman shows up at his door. She is young and gorgeous, has natural talent, and is looking for a team. She’s also a hothead with a punchy past who floored her last … who floored her last coach on live TV. Despite his misgivings, Matt agrees to be both her agent and her coach. Professional common sense says she’s off-limits. But what can he say about the raw attraction between them?
Parker plays soccer with her heart and soul. But after the events of the last year, she’s shaken. She’s already seen what a powerful man can do to a female athlete’s career. And her beloved dream is in the hands of a sexy, gorgeous man with the uncanny ability to slip past her defenses…and into her heart.
Now Matt and Parker are about to learn that when it comes to love, the only way to win is by breaking every rule they know. And by playing nice. Real nice.

I loved Matt and Parker! We met Matt in Risky Play, and here he has met his match. Parker is lashing out because of something in her past, but Matt can see the true Parker. He tries to stay away, but Slade, Mackenzie, Jagger and Willow have other ideas for them. With her usual wit and humor, Van Dyken gives us a wonderful love story, some steamy sexy times and great banter. Plus there is a bonus love story mixed in!
When Matt agrees to let his sister intern with his sports agency he gets more than he bargained for when she moves in with her friend Parker. Rising female soccer star with a chip on her shoulder Parker is trying to get a position on a team but the drama from her past is keeping her from her goal. But once Matt sees just how much talent she has and decides to help her land a try out, he also realizes she has a huge skeleton in her closet that she has hid from everyone. Can she overcome her past? Will she become even stronger with Matt by her side? I loved these characters. Matt started off as a stuffed suit but ended up with his heart on his sleeve and Parker is so broken you just want to hug her. Throw in great supporting characters and this was a perfect read.
Aah, a lovely sweet forbidden romance following Sports Agent Matt Kingston as he decides whether to take on female soccer player Parker Speedman. There are however a few complications. She’s his sister’s best friend, she’s going to be living in his house for the next 3 months, she also seems to be breaking down his client/agent barriers, and she’s hot as hell. Parker on the other hand has issues with men, she doesn’t trust them, and she has good reason. Matt needs to earn her trust and get her to open up if he’s going to get her a contract. Book 2 in the Red Card series and it’s just as wonderfully addictive as the first book. Sports romance is one of my favourite genres, add in great writing and characters (dual POV) and it’s a winner for me. Thoroughly enjoyable, easy read. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This is the second installment of RVD’s newest series ‘Red Card’. As yet, I’ve still to read the first so can honestly say that it is able to be read, understood and enjoyed fully as a standalone.
The story of Matt and Parker begins a bit tremulously when she turns up on his doorstep having been promised, by his sister, that she’d have a place to stay.
Parker has some very well kept secrets but as a pro soccer player she needs to get her act together in order to secure a club. Matt, a successful Sports Agent, takes Parker on as a client to help get her signed.
As the story, and their relationship, progresses Parker reluctantly reveals some of her fears and insecurities, just enough in fact to give Matt some insight into those well kept secrets.
The dialogue between these two is sometimes witty, heartbreaking, uplifting and serious. I laughed out loud and I cried more than a tear. Any book that can evoke that type of emotion, is a winner in my book!
Cant wait for more from this author and her sports themed novels.
Kickin’ It is so much more the a sports romance. There’s laughter and passion, real life issues, heartbreak and healing; not to mention humor, wonderful characters and soccer. This story draws the reader in, opens their heart, heals something deep inside and gives the most beautiful redemption; all with laugher and love.
I went into this book thinking it would be a fun, romantic sports read. What I got so much more. Yes, there’s humor. Yes, there’s passion, but there is also real issues that are addressed; that characters deal with beautifully and with such strength.
Matt Kingston is a highly successful, high profile, slightly arrogant and very busy sports agent. He knows sports, he knows his clients, he knows how to succeed. That is until Parker Speedman is trust upon him and life changes. Parker challenges him in ways he’s never had to deal with before. She shows him trust and love, and he gives back ten fold.
Soccer, that’s all Parker wants in life. To be successful at what she loves, to me whole and to loose herself in her passion. For that she needs Matt, her best friend’s older brother. Only problem is, she has anger issues, as she punched her last coach (with good reason). As Matt and Parker work together lust abounds, feelings become more, and life issues take on a real and urgent tone.
I will leave the bulk of the story for the reader to discover, but I will say this: this book invokes emotions and real life issues along with laugh out load humor and some really great crazy characters. If you are just discovering this author, there really isn’t a better book to try out. If you are a long time reader, well you know what lies ahead for you. I had the extreme pleasure of reading an ARC and this is my honest review. Thank you NetGallery and Skyscape for the opportunity.
