New York Times bestselling author Melody Anne’s sizzling novel of ex-lovers locked again in a game of hearts.
There was a time when surgeon Kian Forbes would have surrendered every cent of his vast family fortune if it could make Roxie Gilbert happy. That was before she skipped town, broke his heart, and sent him spinning through a string of forgettable one-night stands. He never even knew he’d … He never even knew he’d fathered a child—with Roxie’s sister, no less. But in the wake of tragedy, little Lily needs a home. And Kian wants his daughter. But Roxie’s not giving in or giving up without a fight.
Fearful of her intense feelings for Kian, Roxie ran. Now that her sister’s death has brought her home, she intends to take custody of her niece and avoid Kian—easier said than done on both counts. With their wealth and power, the Forbes men are accustomed to winning. And as she and Kian are forced to spend time together for Lily’s sake, saying no to everything he wants proves impossible…even though it means risking both their hearts all over again.

Melody Anne does it again. This book was very emotional. I highly recommend this book. I have loved every Melody Anne book that I’ve read.
I normally enjoy Melody Anne’s books, but this one didn’t quite measure up. Kian Forbes and Roxie Gilbert were in love for years, but something happened that sent Roxie running, leaving Kian with no idea why she left him. He was crushed and fell into a life of partying, bars, women and a closed down heart. He is a trauma surgeon and is so patient, kind and talented with each of his patients. Stabbing victims have been brought into the ER and he’s trying to save the life of a woman with stab wounds, doused in blood. There’s something familiar about her and, when she speaks, he knows immediately. This is Pam, Roxie’s sister, and things just got real. The 4-year-old stabbing victim is Pam’s daughter, Lily, and Kian is the father. Roxie gets the call that no sister or aunt wants to receive and it looks like she’s going to have to face Kian sooner than she thought she would. When they face each other after four years of no communication, there’s a lot of pain and fear because there has never been any type of closure. Kian is a father and he takes it so seriously and he falls in love with Lily right away. Roxie doesn’t handle it well; in fact, she lashes out selfishly, worried more about her own feelings, when she should have been concerned only with Lily’s health and wellbeing. It’s a wonderful premise, the characters are written in layers upon layers, but the angst between Roxie and Kian didn’t have to be ratcheted up that much. Roxie couldn’t even give a reason as to why Kian had hurt her so much that she had to leave. She blamed herself, but took it out on him. The rest of the story was a delight and there are more of the Forbes children to find their match.
Kristin Watson Heintz did a wonderful job with the narration. Her dynamic voice and natural intonation helped to bring these characters to life!
It was great.
boring, uninteresting characters and not up to her usual writings. I couldn’t finish it as the cliches were coming fast and thick.
2018published, contemporary, erotic, m-f-romance, read, romance, sex, steamy
Roxie is selfish, boring and immature, she acts like a child younger than her niece, she just thinks to run away and I don’t know to where or why.
Kian is a nice guy too nice to be true. He is a fool, how could he love Roxie, how could he wait for such a long time for her? How could she live in the same house her sister was murdered? Why didn’t she accept to live with Kian? She prefers to live in the house her niece was injured and her sister murdered. She insisted on keeping her niece but was surprised when the girl called her Mama, the kid is 3 years old. Everyone, who wants to take care of the girl is fine with her, except the father, during all day long she didn’t care to know where is the girl? Who is with the girl? What the girl is doing? Or, to feed the girl. He insisted in wait for her time, why won’t he fight to keep his daughter with him? He lost the first 3 years of her life and don’t do anything to know the girl daily basis. Why doesn’t he fight for his daughter?
Although I am not an English born reader, I can read fast and this book took me twice the time to read it. I don’t know who are the characters in chapter 16 and these people are responsible for the epilogue, why? Who are they? I think the book would be more readable if structured as below:
Chapters 1 to 5: they could be summarized in 3 or 4
From chapters 6 to 24: they would live together like a family in his house (safer than hers), they could talk, chat, speak, argue, discuss, have sex, more sex, and find out their love, he could teach her to trust him, she could learn to stay than run away.
Chapter 25: they argue, like every other romance book, without a good reason or because she decided to run away again.
Chapter 26: she could come back to her house to find her sister’s killer.
Chapters 27 and 28 are ok.
Epilogue a real one, summing up their last year together and without people who don’t have a real voice during the book.
One of the most weak and unlikeable heroines. Rest of characters saved this from one star.
Enjoyable story spoilt by an unlikeable heroine. Roxie was weak, dithering and just a waste of space. Her reasoning for walking away from a man who worshipped the ground she walked on was ridiculously poor.
Though I hate man whores as a rule I could understand Kian going off the rails a bit.
Four years of one night stands, one with his ex’s sister and never even knew it was Roxies sister was just a bit off.
The letter from Pamela didn’t redeem her in my eyes either.
Sounds like both of the sisters were weak and selfish.
Read through KU and will be reading about the next brother.
Loved the character development! Great story.
My first AND last by Melody Anne… The only reason I listened to the whole book was I really liked the storyline…BUT I hated Roxie, what a whiny selfish person. I don’t believe for one minute she is a nurse and I certainly wouldn’t want her raising my child, that poor little girl! I liked Kian, but even he had way too much angst-filled repetitive internal yammering. I like the father and friends “helping” but it was introduced way too late in the story.
Kian by Melody Anne is the First book i the “Undercover Billionaire” Series. This is the story of Kian Forbes and Roxie Gilbert.
This was a great second change at love book. Roxie and Kian knew each other previously but they didn’t end up together. Now they are bought back together by a tragic lost but can this time around will it be forever?
I enjoyed their story and I am excited for this new series!!
What opens up with a devastation ends with happily every after. My kind of easy read.
I love how she tells a story.
This book is good. I got a little frustrated with Roxie because she was so hard headed and it seemed liked she would never give Kian the chance he deserved because of her own hang-ups.
Would give anything to have a guy like that show me the light of day.
This one took me by surprise. I had mixed feelings when I read the premise but then I started reading it and I was blown away. Kian fathered a child during a one night stand and it just happened to be with the sister of his ex-girlfriend even though he was unaware of who she was. He found out about the child when she was brought into his ER after being stabbed along with her mother, Pamela, and in her dying breath she confessed who Lily was and that she wanted him to raise her along with her sister, Roxie. Heartbroken to find out he had a daughter and missed out on 3 years of her life, a few hours later Roxie walks back into his life. She had walked out on him which is what sent him on the spiral that led to all the one night stands. Oh, what a tangled mess. What was so great was Kian never wavered, he stepped up right away. It took Roxie a while to catch up, well more than a while and patience was starting to run thin, but when love takes over, yea, the Forbes sure know how to love.
(Of note, this was my first audio book but definitely NOT my last!)
Loved it. Enjoying this series
I really don’t like to leave any book unfinished; but I’m considering it. I’ve read other books by Melody Anne and thought this would be equally entertaining. Sadly, it’s not.. it’s disappointing at best.
The heroin was too defensive. Could not finish.
Opening scene doctor is called to the ER. Where he sees a woman who was a one night stand four years ago. Not only that but she is the sister to the one woman who stole his heart. Things go down hill from there. Losing this pregnant patient is one thing. But to find out that the three year old girl is his daughter. The story revolves around her and the couple left with guardianship of her. What happens next is about answering questions from the past. How to move forward and come together for the child’s sake.
I enjoyed the characters and their difficult interactions. Steamy romance with a touch of grit.
The start of this book was promising. Trauma surgeon who is not only phenomenal at his profession but also empathetic and caring for each person he treats. I was excited to read it and left disappointed when I finished.
I felt no connection with these characters. There were no layers to be peeled back, the characters were superficial and one dimensional. I liked Kian okay, but Roxie just irritated me to the point of wanting to shake and scream at her for several things (spoiler-y things). She was not a likeable character. Not to mention that I was a little confused as to the other men. Was there another series this one is linked to?
I had a little trouble with the believably of the story line regarding Roxie being an experienced nurse just after four years. And the ending left me with whiplash. The whole book was Roxie hating on Kian then poof – total turnaround.
Overall, I would still recommend this book to others. Everyone has their own tastes and this one just wasn’t for me.
Kian was my first book by Melody Anne so I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it. I wasn’t a huge fan of the fact Kian slept with Roxie’s sister and fathered a child but that didn’t prevent me from reading the book.
I was not a fan of Roxie at all. Her reason for just leaving all those years ago was extremely immature. Normally, I find it easy to connect with heroines but that was not the case. Kian was a much better character, even, Pam (Roxie’s sister) was a better character. The letter she wrote is what really got me.
I absolutely loved Lily and the Forbes brothers! I do look forward to reading more about them in the future.
