Kelly owns a coffee shop in the small town of Cedar Bay. The shop is well known, not only for the delicious food Kelly produces. but also because it is a place the residents gather to exchange any local gossip. Kelly loves her cafe and, with the help of her two young assistants everything always runs smoothly. However things were about to change. One morning, Kelly’s assistant, her goddaughter, didn’t turn up for work. When Kelly learns the young woman has been murdered, she is determined to help the sheriff find the killer. But she is rather shattered when she finds out what really went on behind the scenes in the life of her goddaughter.
I really enjoyed this novel. I loved the characters and I found the book so easy to read.
I like Dianne Harman’s stories because they give a mind vacation in different parts of the country. This showed the life of Kelly running at place called “Kelly’s Koffee Shop” at a little seaside town in Oregon and serves breakfast, lunch and gossip. Kelly notices that her god daughter, Amber’s car wasn’t in the usual place and starts looking for her. There is also a dog called Rebel and I love dogs and at the end of her books are recipes.
Kelly’s Koffee Shop (Cedar Bay Mystery #1), my fourth read/listen from author Dianne Harman in the last 2 weeks, Well-written & enjoyable. a cute, clean cozy mystery, the first book in this series, and perhaps the best of her books I’ve read. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Erin deWard’s excellent narration adds to an excellent book’s enjoyment. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
I just recently started reading Dianne’s books but am now a big fan! This one is the first in the Cedar Bay series. It’s a fun mystery involving the locals of Cedar Bay and Kelly’s Koffee Shop. High school student Amber who worked with Kelly at the coffee shop is found murdered. There’s a lot of people who had ties to Amber and seem suspicious. Kelly doesn’t listen to her boyfriend Mike, who’s the county sheriff. She takes her Boxer Rebel and she starts some investigating of her own. She feels upset about what happened to Amber and is determined to find some answers. There are yummy recipes included in the book as well!
Kelly’s Koffee Shop by Diane Harmon is a Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery. The Pacific Northwest coastline is a beautiful setting for the story of Kelly, a coffee shop owner and single mother of two, and the death of a popular local high school girl. This was an easy read with a great list of suspects that will keep you guessing until the surprise ending.
This first book in Dianne harman’s cedar cove mysteries is great, as is to be expected from this author. I have read several of her other series and knew this would be as satisfying as the rest. I wasn’t disappointed.
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book. It contained plenty of suspects to keep you guessing as the main character worked to solve the mystery. It is a light hearted mystery that has a strong message at the end, that might just bring a tear to your eye. I liked the characters, especially Rebel the well behaved dog and the small town setting, resulting everybody thinking they know everybody else’s business. The mystery was interesting and for someone who had no enemies the main character sure had a lot of suspects to eliminate. Hope the rest of the series makes its to audio and with the same narrator.
Kelly the local owner of the coffee shop is understandably upset when the teenage body of her employee is pulled out of sea, it doesn’t help that Amber was also her god daughter. Dating the police sheriff and working in the coffee shop where everybody comes to gossip puts her in the ideal place to pick up clues. Can she help eliminate some of the suspects in order to catch the killer? There are five suspects topping the list from a retired doctor to a high school coach, to a jealous friend and even her own boyfriend and his father but just who would have a big enough reason to killer the teenager with a bright future ahead of her.
I liked the narrator and hope she sticks with the series, as I found her easy to understand and bubbly.
Wonderful characters and a surprising twist in the plot that kept me guessing right to the end. Not to mention the recipes the author always includes….Some of which are definitely finding their way into my recipe collection.
Kelly’s Koffee Shop is the first in Dianne Harman’s Cedar Bay Mystery series. I enjoyed the story. It has a murder mystery, a coffee shop where friends gather, romance, and a faithful canine. What more could a cozy mystery book lover want? The suspect list was not short and Harman kept me guessing as to the culprit. I liked the characters. Kelly is a widow who finds herself looking into the death of her godchild. She is relentless and with the help of Rebel, sometimes finds herself in touble. The story kept my interest and I look forward to reading more in the series. I listened to a complimentary copy of the audiobook and Erin deWard did a nice job narrating the book. I was not required to write a review and the opinions are my own.
How did this book earn such a high rating??
First of all, it did have a plot, Kelly is an okay character and her man, Sheriff Mike seemed all right….but the romance factor was so low that I figured he saw her for the food. And when her goddaughter is killed, instead of crying or showing any real emotions, she decides she is Jessica Fletcher and will solve the crime!
The writing is stiff, the author needs to work on it….people really do not talk that way. Second, the suspect list is a bit off, way off. Not looking for any strangers in town, the drug business being a minor blip on Mike’s list, and Mike sharing it all with Kelly. But the biggest gripe is about Chris, a teacher Mike checks on and discovers serious issues on…..why does Mike not make Chris number one on the list and also why doesn’t he notify the school about the background check?? And since when is it fair to throw in a killer that we’ve not seen in the book at all ! And at the end, why in heck is the child pornography not addressed!!!!!
In this day and age, to just drop the child pornography web sites as if no longer inportant is so unreal!! Can’t believe this didn’t raise comments or concerns. And alcoholism and abuse of a minor plus the terrible gossip about Madison, whether true or not, is not a light topic for a cozy cottage. Did a rainbow come up and all these problems were addressed? Did the readers not notice or care about the pornography of young people?
I really liked and enjoyed this book.
I received this audio book for free with the agreement that I would give an honest review. I thought the narrator Erin deWard did a great job. I would listen to more of her books. This is the first in a series called A Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery. I will be looking forward to reading more in this series.
I look forward to each new Dianne Harman cozy mystery. As a senior citizen I enjoy her books immensely!
