When long-time White Rock resident Mike Donnelly is found dead at his hunting camp, it appears as if the tragic death was by his own hand. But a gut feeling tells Chief of Police Sam Mason otherwise. Is it any coincidence that Mike’s family farm sits smack in the middle of a parcel of land that greedy Lucas Thorne desperately needs to complete the development of his resort? Sam and Sergeant Jody … and Sergeant Jody Harris’s line of questioning stirs up a hornet’s nest. When Thorne threatens to expose a secret from Sam’s past, Sam realizes the corruption in White Rock runs deeper than he ever suspected. And when a startling discovery surrounding slain officer Tyler Richardson is brought to light, Sam and Jo discover that you never can tell who might be keeping secrets.

Great book with enjoyable characters! I could’t guess whodunnit!
Interesting ending- enjoyable plot.
It moved along rapidly, and had different story lines going at one time.
It’s not the type of book where you can read a chapter and put it down and start again when you “get around to it”. You want to keep reading, reading, It truly is a great book.
I enjoy this series
I liked this book because it was a thriller with some mysteries in the storyline and the story kept me wanting to read more and to find out what happened at the end of the story.
A great storie wth a really good ending.
ending.
Great series, love Lucy
Loved the main characters, including Lucy the really smart police dog! Hard to put down, and interesting that some of the unfinished business subplots will lead to the next book in the series.
Definitely enjoyed this fast paced read.
Great series
Good mystery and interesting characters
Far-fetched and monotonous Don’t waste your time.
Really enjoyed the story and the interaction between the characters in the book. Love Lucy, the K-9 Officer.
I loved the book
I loved the first book in this series so I was excited to read this one. The premise was great…did a man commit suicide or was he murdered and by foe or friend or family.
The Sheriff and his back up Jody are back and I like the way they work as a team…realistic interplay. Kevin is back also, a part time cop, still not trustworthy.
From the first book, Tyler, a cop had been killed and no one prosecuted. Now Sam and Jody are investigating on their own
which makes Kevin suspicious. So you have two cases being looked into and it seems everyone is keeping secrets ( the title of the book)
There is some humor and regional references that I enjoyed like the reference to The Old Man in the Mountain…..if from back east, you’ll know and if not, look it up ( a site in New Hampshire). Regional mysteries are a great way to see an area without visiting…good for armchair travelers. But, this book solved the mystery without a lot of drama or action and seem to lose itself on the case of the dead cop……so you should read book one to really get into book two.
I just needed some more “meat” in the plot. And reading about the third book and knowing its a continuation of the first two is okay but had better gave a more complex plot and more than one villain!
