When long-time White Rock resident Mike Donnelly is found dead at his hunting camp, it appears as if the tragic death was by his own hand. But a gut feeling tells Chief of Police Sam Mason otherwise. Is it any coincidence that Mike’s family farm sits smack in the middle of a parcel of land that greedy Lucas Thorne desperately needs to complete the development of his resort? Sam and Sergeant Jody … and Sergeant Jody Harris’s line of questioning stirs up a hornet’s nest. When Thorne threatens to expose a secret from Sam’s past, Sam realizes the corruption in White Rock runs deeper than he ever suspected. And when a startling discovery surrounding slain officer Tyler Richardson is brought to light, Sam and Jo discover that you never can tell who might be keeping secrets.

Good read
This police procedural is set in upstate New Hampshire. I enjoyed the story and the sense of place. But the writing is not top-notch — questionable word-choice on occasion, stilted dialogue, and some didactic narrative [mystery novels are not a good forum for preaching].
I enjoy all of kaBobs books Some by a “different”name.
The characters were good but I guess I’m more of an action reader and this was kind of a slow-mo read.
By itself the book was confusing. Everyone has secrets and only one minor one gets solved. Waste of time!
Suspenseful
A little long, otherwise, an okay read to pass the time
Can’t wait to read the next book
While not a world-beater, this work could be worth reading … but, again, like so many novels of this genre, the conclusion is disappointing … like the author did not know where to go, and this was an obvious, easy way out of a potentially twisting and snarled situation..
\ Yes, the conclusion could have been better … but the middle 75 percent of the book lives up to most readers expectations.
Give it a whirl … see if you can figure out all the secrets … it’s an okay effort by the author.
Ending left enough interest to want to read the net book
I love this series probably because I’m a German Shepherd lover. Yes, there is a continuing mystery that wines itself through the books. I’ve read other books that have done the same. The book can stand on the mystery at hand. The characters are fun and well developed. The plot is good. As they are short staffed and have there hands tied by bosses they do what they can to solve this continuing mystery on the side. Fun series. I’m buying and reading more!!
Great read.
Predictable, doesn’t live up to the title.
Great book kept my interest. Really good reads
Anticlimatic ending
I enjoyed this book a lot. Good story and likeable characters. This is the second book in the series. The first is Telling Lies and I liked it as well.
