When long-time White Rock resident Mike Donnelly is found dead at his hunting camp, it appears as if the tragic death was by his own hand. But a gut feeling tells Chief of Police Sam Mason otherwise. Is it any coincidence that Mike’s family farm sits smack in the middle of a parcel of land that greedy Lucas Thorne desperately needs to complete the development of his resort? Sam and Sergeant Jody … and Sergeant Jody Harris’s line of questioning stirs up a hornet’s nest. When Thorne threatens to expose a secret from Sam’s past, Sam realizes the corruption in White Rock runs deeper than he ever suspected. And when a startling discovery surrounding slain officer Tyler Richardson is brought to light, Sam and Jo discover that you never can tell who might be keeping secrets.

I have enjoyed this book very much. Second book by this arthor I have read & will look for more
Picking up from book I Sam looking at finding another full time person, they were understaffed and missed Tyler. None of the applicants interested him, would an in person interview help him decide. A call of a moose running pass homes up at the lumber camp area, finding what little was left of Mike. A development of securing land rather owners wanted to or not was happening in this small community. With Mikes land in the middle of what Lucas Thorne needed to finish his resort. Good flowing plot to find the killer.
A great murder mystery with Sam Mason and his co-workers as the leading investigators. Can’t wait to read the next mystery by L.A Dobbs!!!
Great book. Hard to put down!
Hope to see more kindle books by LA Dobbs.
I live in New England so the fact that it takes place in a New England small town gets my vote! This is a book in a series and I can’t wait for the next one to be released!
I have a mixed review to “Keeping Secrets.” In general, it was easy reading, a decent plot and (for me) a surprise ending. Conversation was very well done and realistic, which was a treat. I’ve enjoyed L. A. Dobbs’ work before, so maybe my expectations weren’t as reasonable as they could have been.
That said, I gave it three stars for three reasons:
1 — IMO, the characters were not as complex or as developed as they could have been, didn’t have the depth of, say, Lawrence Block’s Bernie Rhodenbarr, the burglar, nor did they have depth to their lives. Sam goes home each night with Lucy, a rescue dog that makes friends with people who give her treats, and – voila! – can show Sam and Jo clues. Watta dog. We’re told repeatedly Jo has a security problem and is afraid to settle down anywhere, never mind with anyone. Period. The victim’s son and daughter are just – there. Suspects, of course, but just – there.
2 – I was left wanting more color and action to add dimension, and conversation and prose was repetitive at times.
3 – The worst feature, though, and the star-killer, is the cliffhangers at the end. We hear repeatedly there is something terrible in Sam’s history from 20 years ago. The probably crooked mayor and the probably crooked developer may be in cahoots to plant condos in the soon-to-be former forest. Tyler, one of Sam’s officers, had been murdered, and his mysterious life and death keep coming up. We are introduced multiple times to Kevin who works part-time as an officer and part-time underground worker for someone who is paying him dearly to deliver inside information, presumably about the murder investigation. But no answers.
I HATE that. There’s a difference between a series and a serial. I enjoy and have enjoyed many series. No way for serials.
That’s a personal reaction. Had even just one puzzle been left and others resolved, I’d have added a star. It’s an otherwise good read, and you might jump on some clues to the cliffhangers that sped by me.
So. If you’re not bothered by cliffhangers, I think you’ll enjoy “Keeping Secrets.”

read this book in one sitting! surprise ending I didn’t see coming. second in the series & I’ve enjoyed them both, looking forward to more.
Reoccurring characters-part of a series, suspense, romance, a good non-graphic mystery
,
Great read.
good story line; the icelandic names took work to keep track of
Keeps you guessing.
All of L. A. Dobbs’ books are excellent
REally held my interest and want to read the second book
Answered questions to previous books.
Good story.
Close to being a good book. I prefer to have the events and characters tell the story, as opposed to the author continually having to explain what is going on. Plot generally good, ditto for characters,
I enjoyed the characters in this series. Kept you guessing to the end.
Great book!
