A Fun Lighthearted Romance Story:
A magical story filled with suspense, a bit of mystery, intriguing characters and a good plot.
I have not read the other books in this series and I was not lost as far as the story goes.
Elizabeth writes with such a flair that just grabs you right away and keeps your attention to the end.
It was a fun story to read.
Keeper of the flame. Orrick Second in Command book 5 . This was just such an adorable love story. Magic, potions, sorcerers, I LOVED it. In the beginning I was a little confused only because I am used to another narrator. But once into the book I was hooked I love how Elizabeth Rose put in magic where Orrick shift from old to young. But the best part was the surprising ending. This series is a must read I love all the books I read from this authors books.
This is the fifth book in a series, and I hadn’t read the others, but I’m definitely planning on going back and reading them – I really enjoyed Orrick’s story. The medieval time period is where this author excels.
After his wife died, Orrick is an old sorcerer, or at least that’s what he shows the world, as he keeps up the old man look. But when Hope arrives, he begins to feel for the first time since he lost his wife and the real Orrick comes through. I wasn’t a huge fan of Hope in the beginning, but I grew to like her as the story progressed. This book brings, suspense, romance and even a bit of humor. Well worth picking up.

Orrick Pendragon is a sorcerer (an old one it seems), a shape-shifter, and the current Keeper of the Eternal Flame.
Lady Hope Threston has come to Blake Castle as Corbett’s ward. She has a mission. She is seeking the Eternal Flame. Orrick knows she want the Flame and disguises himself (shape-shifter, remember) to try to discover her motive.
Mary’s search and Orrick’s attempt to discover why she wants the Flame, all while he guards against it falling into the wrong hands, is exciting but dangerous. It is impeded by Hope’s sister and Corbett’s other ward, a six-year-old boy who wants to be just like Orrick. In the midst of all this, Orrick and Hope become quite attracted to each other, but finding love in these circumstances won’t be easy.
This one has memorable characters and a terrific storyline with secrets, suspense, surprises, magic, and romance. There are some laughs, as well. Why does Orrick’s disguise keep slipping? How can old Callum MacKeefe help Orrick? Definitely a good read. I recommend it.
I received an ARC of this book. My review is voluntary.
A story with magic, romance and an eternal flame. An immortal sorcerer, Orrick and a woman, Hope trying to steal his eternal flame so she can get out of an unwanted betrothal cross wits and kisses. All the while not quite trusting each other and having a precocious 6 year old boy causing mayhem for Orrick, makes this a fun and mystical read. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
A shape-shifting sorcerer finds that achieving his dream comes with dire consequences. I received an ARC of this historical romance with a touch of the mystical.
In this book five of the Second in Command series, the old Sorcerer, Orrick gets his story and maybe his happily ever after. In other books, the immortal Orrick seems happy enough helping other people, but it turns out that he isn’t really happy. When Lady Hope Threston comes to Blake Castle as Ward to Lord Corbett Blake, we meet another unhappy soul. She is betrothed to a man she has no desire to marry, and he’ll only let her out of their arrangement if she can lead him to the magic, mystical Eternal Flame. But we see that Lady Hope is no lady – in fact, I found her to be deceitful, nosey, and annoying – certainly no lady of medieval times. I thought Orrick should have put Hope in her place more than once. I honestly couldn’t understand what Orrick saw in her, except for the obvious – her looks. Hope awakened a longing in Orrick that hadn’t been there in over 100 years, and so their journey began. And their journey was filled with many mishaps along the way. I enjoyed the interesting story about the Eternal Flame, even though we learn of how Orrick’s not so honest involvement with it began. I love medieval stories, and this is a good one despite not being fond of Lady Hope. If you are a fan of medieval romance, then this story is worth reading, as are Ms. Rose’s other medieval romances. I was given an ARC of this book and have left my honest opinion.
The quest for the Eternal Flame brings Lady Hope Threston and Orrick Pendragon together. Settle in for how these two find their true selves as they find love. Good addition to the Second in Command series that you won’t want to miss.
Orrick finally gets his own story.
He has been an old sorcerer for many years. He has seemed happy in all the other books in the series to help, but now we discover he changed his appearance because of unhappy events in his life.
One lady has been able to awaken his desire to be young again.
Don’t miss this one!!
“Immortality should have been a blessing, but for Orrick Pendragon, it was naught but a curse.” Image living forever and seeing everyone you care about die as you live on just as your were.
That is what Orrick faced as he lost his beloved over 100 years ago. He was the Keeper of the Flame, for the last 100 years.
When Lady Hope Threston entered his room, wanting to find the Eternal Flame, he could only tell her he could not help, although of course he knew. He had shapeshifted into an old man, a sorcerer but Hope intrigues him and he finds himself attracted to her.
What would happen if the eternal flame got into the wrong hands? It makes the holder immortal but they could cause so much harm and that is why Orrick guards it fiercely.
A magical tale that had me turning the pages from the first to see what would happen! Elizabeth Rose at her best!!

I was given a free advanced copy of this book for an honest review.
I have been waiting, albeit somewhat impatiently for Orrick’s story to be told and I could hardly wait to crack open the pages. It was definitely worth the wait.
I thought Hope and Orrick’s story had a lot of chemistry and passion in it and I found myself wanting him to find the one who was supposed to be the next Keeper of the Eternal Flame so he and Hope could have a chance at a life together. In the beginning of the story, I felt that both Hope and her sister, Grace were selfish twits and I wanted so badly to see them get caught doing some of the things that they did. But then I figured she really didn’t have much choice in the matter. However, I feel she could have handled the breaking of the betrothal better without all the deception, after all, she was Lord Corbett’s ward. It was a very exciting story and I loved all the magical elements in it. I was glad to see a cameo from Callum Mackeefe as well. Ms. Rose has outdone herself once again and I highly recommend Keeper of the Flame be part of your reading list this Fall.
Orrick was in search of extreme power so he stole the Eternal Flame and became the Keeper of the Flame.
As an immortal, he sees everyone he loves grow old and die, while he stays young and healthy.
Hope is trying to get out of an arranged marriage to Lord Irwin.
Lord Irwin agrees to break the engagement to Hope if she finds the Eternal Flame.
Will she learn Orrick’s secret.
