Keep Calm and Perfect Your Smolder is book two in the Flame series. It one can be read as a standalone. This one was an interesting read. George and Maggie dated before now their paths cross again. At the time they are both dating other people. They have this magnetic pull to each other. I was a little caught off guard that they both had other significance other when they were reconnecting. Maggie and George so belong together and the storyline just flowed perfect. Flo threw me for a loop. She’s such and odd character that I don’t know whether to like her or hate her.
“Instinctively, she looked deeply into George’s eyes. Somehow, they’d made a silent agreement: they would not tell. It would be too awkward, or hard, or whatever. Forget about being adults. Instead, they would take it to their graves. That would be much better.”
O no! Her new friend Florence was dating her old…boyfriend? Talk about being blindsided! And awkward…now what do they do? They still have feelings, should they get back together? What about their current partners. Seen through the eyes of both Maggie and George, this could get real “he said/she said” but instead has twists no one might expect. Will it be HEA or simply a train wreck with no survivors. I won’t tell.
I don’t read a lot of contemporary fiction because it does tend to be a bit formulaic. I was happily surprised it wasn’t the case here. I enjoyed my time in Daniella Brodsky’s world and I think you might too. Recommended 4/5
[disclaimer: I received this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it]
Maggie has a huge surprise waiting for her when she and her best friend Flo arrange a couples dinner so they could meet each other’s boyfriends. Flo’s current boyfriend is – surprise! – Maggie’s ex-boyfriend, the man who broke her heart. Maggie and George (or Lionel as he is known now) must wade their way through their old relationship issues and decide if they are going to pursue a new relationship – but how can they without hurting their current partners? Both relationships are in trouble, so it is easy for them to flirt with the idea of getting back together. Another huge surprise towards the end of the book. Seems Maggie and George meeting again wasn’t an accident after all. Language is a bit course, so if profanity bothers you, probably not a good book for you. Good characters although Maggie boyfriend Reg has no redeeming qualities that I can see. Even though this is a series, each is a story on its own. No characters in common so read one or all in any order.
I wasn’t sure about the storyline of this book when it started. I couldn’t figure out how it wouldn’t end badly for all. But there were a number of twists to the story. It was a fast paced read and has a good amount of humor.
I received an advance copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the 2nd book in this series and is Maggie and George’s story. When Maggie goes out with her best friend in order to meet her boyfriend, she is shocked when it is George, an ex who left her heartbroken in the past. This is a well written story which is sweet, humorous, steamy and with twists, which all lead to an all-consuming 2nd chance romance story. I was totally hooked and intrigued throughout, and I highly recommend for all readers.
This author wrote a good book that kept my attention for the most part. Her characters, at times, were unlikable. There were some tough spots to get through, but overall it was a good second chance romance read.
Maggie, Flo, and George are on a twisted rollercoaster. The past and present collide and man, you’ll be thrown for a loop. This book is a read that some will love and others might have problems with. It is a must try!!
As soon as I read the blurb for Keep Clam and Perfect Your Smolder by Daniella Brodsky, I knew I wanted to read it. Imagine going to have dinner with your best friend to meet her new boyfriend only to realize her new boyfriend is your ex. The man who left you shattered and heartbroken. Once you realize this, you are determined to leave that history in the past, but your heart wants what it wants.
George and Maggie did not always make the right choices, but as we learn a bit of their history and what happened between them, you see how they are destined. Should they fight for what they always wanted or let go? And so begins this second chance romance that had angst, undeniable and unforgettable chemistry and an old flame determined to win you back. George was determined and charming. Maggie struggled with what her head and heart wanted.
Happy reading!
This is the first book I have read by the author and the second book in the Flame series. It can be read as a standalone. This is a storyline that presented some challenges as it took some effort to read in its entirety. Maggie is a woman who fell in love when she was younger and followed her boyfriend George to another country but unfortunately, things did not work out. A few years later, she winds up in a relationship with Reg but she never forgot about George. George is a military man who goes where he is told and does what is expected of him. However, the worst thing he ever did was leave Maggie. Coming back to Australia, he winds up living with Flo. Flo is a woman with issues and the catalyst for all of the upheaval that ensues. There are some twists that make the story flow once you get past the first half of the book. I did not feel the connection between the characters, although they do have some serious steam as described during the sexy times. This is one book where the reader needs to decide if he/she wants to read it. I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book.
This was love at first sight for me. The slow burn love story is a second chance with a surprising twist. I got a hunch after a while and to my surprise I was not only right about my suspicion but the backstory was even more intriguing.
I’m charmed by the characters, the city, the atmosphere, the attraction between the two lovers and the way they try to do the right thing. I loved the way we got more than one point of view. I am not going to spoil anything but it’s a fresh take on a difficult topic. Highly recommend it.
