She was mine. Mine and only mine.A Bratva member. An FBI agent. Right and wrong. Black and white. Her life mission is to put men like him behind bars. His job is to stay away from the likes of her. They say opposites attract. But this time, attraction might get them killed. Warning: 18+ due to sexual content, profanity, abuse, graphic violence, and adult subject matter.
This story starts off with a tragic event from Yuri’s past. Yuri is a member of the mafia. Melissa is an FBI with a dark past and secrets of her own. No matter how they fight it, the attraction is overwhelming and intense for the couple. How will things turn out with each of them on the opposite side of the law? Will Yuri’s and Melissa’s pasts keep them apart or even get them killed? A wonderful read that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
This was a great story. It was heart wrenching at times as well as humorous, touching, and a love story of two people who in most cases would never find themselves together. Almost considered a forbidden love. The twists in this story kept me turning the pages and they kept pulling into the story. The men in the Bratva were men who had to overcome a lot to survive and make a life for themselves. Even though they had some situations that made them question the loyalty of some others, they still stayed true to their friendship and stood behind each other when they needed to. There were a few times where Kaznachei made his best friends question him and his loyalty, but they never turned their backs on them.
I loved the camaraderie these men had and their loyalty to each other even if their loyalty to the brotherhood may have been doubtful sometimes. The pain that Yuri has overcome a lot in his life and he believes that his heart will never be open to anyone and that he has nothing to give to a woman, but when he finds Melissa he will learn that his past heartbreak taught him so much more than he realizes.
I love the ending and am looking forward to the second generation. I really want to know what he told them…although because of Yuri’s reaction, I think I know what it is. I give this story a 5 star review and really hope there are more to come soon.
Kaznachei’s Pain is the fifth book but can be read as standalone and not missing too much cause i read this book first in the series and didn’t miss much except the need to read this series from the start cause this book is just sooo good, i need to know the other member love journey.
Now, Kaznachei’s Pain from the prologue already grip my heart. You can just feel the air in that room Yuri’s at was so over whealming and just tough. But then the author put my krypthonite in. She wrote, “….I swiftly removed the hospital garb covering my three-piece suit and secured a man-bun at the back of my head.”
I explain if you don’t follow me. Man bun and three pieces suit!
I’m dead.
Not the author fault when i have to stop reading then google for the pic just from that cause MAN BUN and THREE PIECES SUIT!
If you feel they are just words, babe then you are muggles! Cause the way V.F. Mason simply write it makes vivid image in my head that just had me drooling in need of Yuri’s picture!
Ok move along with the book
I love this beutiful hard man with his tortured soul and vulnerable heart. The way the author talk about him just vivid. He is your alpha i take what i want when i want without care. On contrary. He feels too much. That’s why he keep pushing Melissa away while in the same time he couldn’t resist what his heart wants. I love this kinda hero. So strong my tortured alpha.
And Melissa…she got secrets. She’s not who she is potraying her self. Building walls around her just to keep living while not very much alive so her past won’t find her, i love her attitude.
Past face, steamy, there’s trigger warning coming. One scene that just tore my heart appart. My stomach roll cause of the vivid image i get. That one scene is a cringe worthy and evil beyond believe. Hint: focus from the start.
And then Yuri and Arthur broke my heart. I cried when Yuri play that phone message for Arthur.
Emotion run rampant with this book. I am so ready to throw my kindle when finally….finally! OMG that bathroom steamy scene! Need re read on that scene alone
If the first steamy scene between them was hot but too fast ending, the second was sweet, hard with their connection getting stronger…the steamy scene in the bathroom sure vavavavom!
And the ending…i’m just gonna ask, when will the kids get their own story?
Melissa’s surprised when she gets brought a drink at the bar, but more surprised by the hot man with ocean blue eyes in the three-piece suit that brought it, not liking his approach she walks away.
Melissa didn’t have any qualities that Yuri normally liked but he wanted her.
Wondering what she would look like not having to hide her family familiarity she leaves the bathroom, only to have a gun pulled on her, while Yuri saves her, a member of Cosa Nostra mentions her name, she explains he was there for her, being told it was family business she leaves.
Yuri catches her before she leaves wanting to know who she is, but he wants her, deciding there was no illusion about feelings she decided to go with him.
Yuri knew he was crazy she was FBI, but he had to possess her, he had never needed a woman more, even for one night.
Melissa’s body didn’t care that is was wrong that he was a member of the mafia and the Bratva, but she saw something in him, that he needed this. Yuri ignites an inferno in her, but if she knew the consequences of the one night it never would have happened.
Yuri continually turns up when Melissa is in danger, knowing if he stays she will fall she tells him, she will be fine and not to mix his grief with a sense of responsibility for her, she can’t see him every day, she knows she would fall for him.
Melissa needed to find out if Yuri was going to be part of her life and soon. Yuri knows he had to end things with Melissa, more time and he wouldn’t let her go, when she calls he lets her know, it’s time to end things, but she tells him she loves him and wanted to tell him in person that she’s pregnant.
Melissa won’t settle for not being first and although Yuri tried she turned him away, for once she should have listened to him, she never expected her kidnapper to be Yuri’s father and only hopes Yuri will find them in time.
Yuri gets a phone call from the father he thought was dead, the video he sends, letting Yuri know he knows what he wants and to bring it to him in time.
While they all thought they knew where the danger was coming from, they couldn’t have been more wrong. Loved the ending with the glimpse into the future, can’t wait to see what’s next.
Wow! I am just blown away by all things VF Mason! This is the fifth book in the Bratva & Cosa Nostra series and I cannot wait for more! This may be my new favorite! FBI Agent and Russian Mobster??? YES PLEASE!! LOVED!!
Kaznachei’s Pain is the fifth book but can be read as standalone. I read this book first in the series and the only thing I found was the need to start from the beginning because this series has to be great if they are anything like this one.
VF Mason is a very talented author but I worry for her mindset. I’m just kidding but her books are dark and intriguing and she quickly became one of my top 10 authors. She does not wow books that you can pick up and read all at once. You have to put it down and digest what you’ve read and there is a lot of Russian which I like to translate but you can get the gist through her filtering sentences.
You can’t go wrong with this book if you like suspense, action, intrigue, more suspense and a love story with achingly painful results with twists that keep you invested in what the final results will be.
So this was the story of Melissa and Yuri and this was a really great addition to the Bratva and Cosa Nostra series.
So I read “Kaznachei’s Pain” as a standalone and though technically I followed along easily with this I do think you would get much more out of this experience if the books are read in order.
There are a lot of past book characters included here and I just think that it would help greatly with the immersion and overall connection: I am now myself planning to backtrack with this series as its one that’s definitely caught my attention and in a good way.
So this was fast paced and full of twists and turns throughout.
Focusing on Melissa an FBI agent with her own secrets buried deep and Yuri high serving brother of the Russian Bratva.
The unusual almost backward courtship portrayed here was more a product of Yuri’s heartbreaking background and I don’t mind saying that he acted like a complete knob at the onset.
I do understand why he acted this way: but he still behaved like an utter tosser and I still felt so slighted myself on Melissa’s part.
I am so glad that our girl had a backbone of steel in regards to making him take his well-deserved medicine.
So as usual with this particular author, we are kept on our toes throughout.
In this up is down, left is right and everything you think you know is completely the opposite.
This author has a talent for dangling the carrot in front of the reader and watching them take the bait only to purposely muddy the waters and have you doubting your own reason and sanity.
V.F. Mason is a master at this and as usual, we are treated to a front-row seat as this story dramatically unfolds.
This was such a great read despite my not fully appreciating the last few chapters here and that is more of a personal preference rather than any great reflection on this author’s excellent skills.
This was as usual fabulously written.
This was my third book by this writer and as expected this was an excellent experience and “Kaznachei’s Pain” (Bratva & Cosa Nostra #5) is definitely a book that I am happy to recommend.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of “Kaznachei’s Pain” (Bratva & Cosa Nostra #5) of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

My….My….My…. is what I kept saying after I read this book. I was like holy hell sweet baby jesus my poor Yuri. This story has everything in it. It has the bad guy, the good girl and holy hell the steamy romance. I mean there was passion lot’s of passion between Yuri and Melissa. They shared so many intense emotional moments together that the steam was coming through the kindle. At first I didn’t think Yuri had that in him because he was so guarded and protected his heart with everything in him but Melissa broke through that and showed Yuri it was okay to show your true emotions.
I loved how the story was presented as past and future. I loved getting glimpses from the past that made Yuri the way he was. Want to talk about a roller coaster ride this was one hell of a ride. I mean like superman roller coaster at great adventures. I loved this story and I will be reading the other books because this series is seriously bad a$$.
4.5 stars! I really, really enjoyed this book!! I loved the back and forth between Yuri and Melissa. There was so much angst and suspense and romance and even a little heartbreak… it’ll give you all the feels! The only reason I didn’t give it a full 5 stars, is because it’s supposedly a standalone, and I haven’t read the previous books in this series, and I could tell I was missing bits and pieces of back story. Not so much that the book didn’t make sense, and it didn’t keep me from understanding THIS storyline, but there were obviously things that had carried over from previous books that I was unaware of. Of course, I’m going to read all those books now! I’ve read and loved other books by her, just haven’t gotten around to this series yet. I highly recommend it though!!
Kaznachei’s Pain is a great addition to the series, and I really loved reading about Yuri and his story! A fast-paced story about a Bratva man and a FBI woman!
This author knows how to write stories filled with action and angst, heartbreaking and heartwarming. And with interesting characters that complete each other.
I was hooked from the very first page, and I felt it all! From the gut wrenching to laughter to love!
-Stina, Book Haven Book Blog.
Told in a dual timeline and full of shocking twists, the Bravta is back with a sexy, gritty and intense tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.
V.F. Mason words are compelling! Yuri and Melissa never imagined that they would be drawn to each other, but they were so perfect together, like pieces of a puzzle that just fit .
What I loved the most about this book was that I got the chance to read little pieces about the whole gang, Dom, Gleb, Radimer, and even Michael.
Kaznachei’s Pain was a really great addition to the Bratva and Cosa Nostra series. I cannot wait for what is next with this series. Hopefully, we will be getting more of them with the next generation.
This was my first time reading this author with realizing this is a series. Curiosity is what happens as you read the opening with you seeing a bit of Yuri. This character is deep and has a lot of baggage that you want to look in them all. When FBI Melissa decides to grab at something for a moment it will be larger than life especially when they both realize whom they are. By then you have to see where they go but the drama around them also builds pulling you in all different directions and avenues. It is fast with lots of bumps and a few surprises. If this is how this author captures a reader this is just a appetizer.
This is the fifth book in this phenomenal series. Yuri is a member of the Russian mob who has a heartbreaking past, and strong and feisty Melissa is an FBI agent. This is a well written flawless story, which is gritty, emotional, heartbreaking, and with twists which had me on tenterhooks. I was totally intrigued and hooked throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this talented author, and I highly recommend for all readers.
With this Mafia mob, every bad guy known to man comes out to play.
Trick plays with intense action packed lines unfold this brilliant novel chapter after chapter.
Yuri and Melissa dominate the story but they have such a bad relationship. I mean they have strong chemistry and it smokes the pages but they don’t always get along.
Past comes to the surface while heartbreaking conclusions steal the shows. It’s dark and deeper than some of this authors other works but it’s just as amazing to read…
This was a fast paced action packed and heartbreaking in places with a lot of twists and oh man I couldn’t put it down as we see the past and present of these characters and now Yuri part of the Bravata try really hard not to fall for Melissa who is FBI you wouldn’t think that’s a good mix with both having secrets that could destroy and ruin. I loved Yuri he was what he needed to be and to protect what is his with every thing he has and Melissa being such a strong very capable woman different on the outside and so tender inside she possibly could destroy him. I loved the characters and the writing is fantastic.
Kaznachei’s Pain is the perfect balance of all the reasons why I prefer romantic suspense novels. There’s action and anxiety, heartbreak and healing, and who doesn’t love it when the bad guy finally gets what’s coming to him? Who I ask!?
I came in to this series with this book, and while Yuri and Melissa’s story is a standalone, there were instances I did feel a little like I “missed” something. Mostly because there are references throughout the book regarding events in previous stories about the other recurring characters of the Bratva family. No worries, the silver lining is, those books have already been released and I can go back and discover all the secrets, that said, that feeling did not detract from the enjoyment of reading this couple’s story.
VF Mason is a new find for me this year and with this, my third book, she has firmly established herself as one of my go-to authors.
Kaznachei’s Pain was another outstanding book in V.F. Mason’s Bratva and Cosa Nostra series. It was an emotional and intense story that painted a picture of Yuri Radionov that we weren’t able to see before. I seriously loved this story and all the shocking af twists! Holy Crap this book was phenomenal!
Without giving away any spoilers the story of Melissa and Yuri was unequivocally amazing. It jumped back and forth from the past to the present giving us a glimpse into the lives of both Yuri and Melissa. I loved the passion and intensity of Yuri and Melissa’s love but was torn apart by the amount of pain they were in due to circumstances beyond their control. I love that this story had two main characters who never would have expected to be drawn to one another but chance and connection couldn’t keep them apart.
All in all this was fantastic! The level of shock and plot twists was mind-blowing and just when you think you know what’s happening- there are a few huge epic plot twists that will blow your mind. Bravo! 5 stars! Ratula
This book takes place in the world of the Bratva & Cosa Nostra book series. You can read it as a standalone. I haven’t read the other books in the serie and I was able to follow the storm, but I did feel I missed some of the background and events taken place in the previous books. You will get more enjoyment if you have the previous books. I am going to read the other books in the series.
I liked Yuri and Melissa. Both of them carry around a lot of hurt and secrets from the past and are taken by surprise about the depth of feeling they experience when they are together. And i loved the interaction and bond Yuri had with the rest of the brotherhood.
Like all V.F. Mason books there is a lot of action, betrayal and twist and turns. Nothing is ever as it seems and I am always surprised. about events and people.
It is fast paced, but also emotional book
10 Start read!!!! I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Yuri and Melissa’s story was an amazing on. I have loved all of this author’s characters, but Yuri and Melissa are officially my favorite. The story line sucked me in. I read it cover to cover yesterday. Also the twists and turns in this book were unexpected. Melissa and Yuri had an extremely complex relationship due to their pasts. I’m glad they were able to overcome their history and be together. Also the romance and steaminess factor in this one is off the charts. Yuri is a complete hotty!! Melissa and strong and no wonder given her past.
Plus we get to see insights to Dom, Gleb, Radimer and Michael (my favorite). I love hearing about them. I cannot wait for what is next with this series. I love these books!!
Intense , Gripping and Fast-Paced….I don’t have enough words to describe how fantastic this book was. Kaznachei’s Pain had me hooked from the start and I was glued to the pages until the end. An FBI agent and a member of the Russian Mob….how could I not be hooked!
VF Mason is a new author I discovered earlier this year and her novels have never failed to disappoint me. I’ve come to realize you get so much more than you expect from her stories and I love it.
The plot with its twists and turns will evoke a wide range of emotions from you. Told in both past and present day, the story was written in dual POV and chapter by chapter we learn so much more about all the characters.
Melissa and Yuri were flawed, well-developed characters who were both amazing in their own right but together they were perfect, and the secondary characters all added support and balance to them.
I absolutely loved this page-turner. It was a well-written masterpiece highly deserving of more than 5 stars. I loved it and would highly recommend it.
