Kathryn “Kappy” King’s skill at making kapps for the Amish women of Blue Sky, Pennsylvania, is unparalleled. But she’s also dangerously good at discovering dark truths beneath this peaceful valley … bakers around, but for years Alma’s boysenberry pies have been more award-winning—and profitable—than Frannie’s. And with Alma out of this fall’s county festival, Frannie’s pie finally wins first prize. But when Alma dies and Frannie’s children fall victim to gossip and bullying, Kappy is determined to uncover the real truth.
Soon Kappy and her outcast friend Edie have their hands full of odd clues. What do Alma’s strange last words mean? Why would someone break into her house just to steal a quilt? If you are looking for fun, laugh-out-loud stories with a bit of a cozy mystery feel, then I definitely recommend this Amish Mystery series. Kappy King and the Pie Kaper is my favorite of the three books that I have read in this series.
Kappy and her friend, Edie, are back to their crime solving ways, complete with the humorous banter that flows so effortlessly between them. I love that Edie’s brother, Jimmy, is a big part in this story. He is a fun character!
The focus in these stories is on friendship and mystery solving. Hints of a possible romantic interest between Edie and Jack are there, but are subtle and lighthearted.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching as Kappy and Edie solved this mystery as only they could!
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Who knew a pie recipe and contest could cause such turmoil? Mysterious crimes amid family and friends need to be solved. I thought I had the crime solved several times while reading the story, only to be totally surprised at the outcome. I enjoyed this one very much. I received a complimentary copy of this story. This is my honest personal opinion. No review was required.
Sorry this review is so late!
I really enjoyed this book! Amy is such a good writer and her style is awesome!
She really knows how to add humor in her books and she brings her characters to life!
the plot of this book is just wonderful and the characters oh my especially the bishop’s wife! She didn’t deserve what happened to her! Why would someone do that?
Kappy, Edie and and Jimmy are immediately on the ball as to the who dun it. I love a book that keeps me guessing and Amy has certainly done an excellent job of that!
Amy will grab your attention from the beginning until the end. She’s just that good!
These three friends will make you laugh at some of their antics and they can also make you cry as well.
I loved that Amy gave Kappy a dog. It’s more interesting when dogs are involved in the story and beagles just happen to be one of my favorite dog breeds. I guess it was because of Who the Bishop Saw by Vannetta Chapman. Henry the Bishop had a beagle. He was soooo cute!!
It seems that wherever these three friends are mysteries are bound to happen!! For that, I”ll be forever grateful!
It means that I will have more to look forward to from this author!!
My thanks to Netgalley for this review copy. NO compensations were received and all opinions are my own
Once again, Amy Lillard, has written another AWESOME book in her Amish Mystery series. This new book, Kappy King and the Pie Kaper finds our friends, Kappy, Edie, and of course you cannot forget, Jimmy, trying to find who would murder the bishop’s wife, over an award winning recipe for boysenberry pie.
Who is the quiet Amish community of Blue Sky Pennsylvania commit such a horrible act, especially over a pie recipe.
Follow our friends as they play sleuth’s to try to solve this new crime that has shaken this community.
I can assure you that you will not want to put the book down, until YOU find out who was desperate enough to commit this horrible act.
While you are at it, why not check out Kappy King and the Puppy Kaper and Kappy King and the Pickle Kaper. You will enjoy these two books, just as much, as Amy Lillard keeps you guessing who committed each murder.
I was given a copy of Kappy King and the Pie Kaper by the author.and this is my honest opinion of the book
Kappy king and the pie kaper
Edie and Kappy are quite the crime solver. They don’t quit until they figure it out.
Jack who is the police detective ask for a little help from Kappy but gets a lot of help.
Edie brother jimmy lives with her. He brought so much to the story even though he wasn’t involved much in the crime solving. He loves animals, he kept wanting to get a pig.
I loved that Kappy had a dog, loved the interaction between them. Dogs add so much to the story.
I received an advanced copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write an positive review. This is my own opinion.
Author Amy Lillard wrote another amazing book, Kappy King and the Pie Kaper. I enjoyed reading this book with its characters and mystery. It kept my interest and I would encourage others to read this fantastic book. Kappy King and the Pie Kaper is Book Three in An Amish Mystery series by Author Amy Lillard.
I received a copy from the author, but was not required to review it. This review is one hundred percent my opinion.
I’m so excited to be back with Kappy and Edie. They are a perfect match for each other as friends. Ok one is English and the other is Amish, but together they make for lots of excitement in their small community.
The big talk around town is about the festival coming up. It is sure to draw a big crowd and lots of things to buy and eat. Someone is taking the pie contest a little too serious when a member of the community is attacked in her home. This woman is know for her delicious pies and now that she is out of the running it may be a slam dunk for someone to win .
I loved the antics Kappy and Edie get into while investigating the crime. They try so hard to act innocent while questioning people, but they don’t have everyone fooled. The big question is why and who changed the rules of the pie contest? A pie is just a pie until it becomes the prize is what I say. There is also a celebrity who has come to judge the pie contest this year. That sure gets the attention of Kappy and Edie. Who is trying to sabotage the contest and will do anything to win? It’s another home run for the author with this series.
I love visiting this special town and I absolutely adore Jimmy. He is a wonderful character and adds a sparkle to the story. His love for animals is wonderful and he takes great care of them. Jimmy is becoming more independent , but his helicopter sister can’t quite let go yet. There is also perhaps a romance starting up between two characters which I am excited about. I’m not going to mention names, but it is fun to read the silly things they do to get each others attention. Don’t miss this fun story filled with laughs, mystery and always exceptional writing by the author.
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
Kappy King and the Pie Kaper ( An Amish Mystery #3 )
By: Amy Lillard
Kappy King and the Pie Kaper is book three in An Amish Mystery Series. I love this series. The story is well written and the characters are well developed. I was grabbed at the start and did not want to put it down. The Bishop’s wife, Alma, is attacked in her home. Kappy and Edie are on it right away. Something don’t sound right. These two are strange together. One is Amish and the other has jumped the fence. They made me laugh out so many times. Can Kappy and Edie find some answers to Alma’s attack? Who would want to do this to a sweet woman? Will she be able to join in the pie contest? There are some twist and turns, but the author keeps you guessing till the end.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Kappy King and the Pie Kaper is the 3rd in the series but can be read as a stand alone.
We return to Blue Sky, Pennsylvania during the annual county fall festival and pie bake off. This year the rules are changed and a guest judge is coming in from a National pie chain. When the previous winner over the years is found with a head injury, the mysteries start. Who would hurt the older Amish woman and was it for her pie recipe. Kappy and Edie are again trying to find answers. Then when Mrs. Miller passes from her injuries, they go into full force investigating.
Throw in Edie’s brother, Jimmy, Kappy’s ornery pup. Elmer, and Officer Jack and you have a great cast of lovable characters. The supporting characters are also good.
You get humor, a hint of romance, and a mystery with enough suspects to keep you guessing.
This is a fun, easy to read, clean mystery.
I was given an ARC from Netgalley for an honest review.
This is the third book in this series of unconventional detectives, one Amish and the other was Amish but jumped the fence. Of course, as in the other stories there is another murder, and they can’t seem to control themselves!
Now if you haven’t read the other two, there is information about the other stories so you won’t be lost, but one you have read this one, you will be wanting to read the other two.
There are other old friends here too, and it is always hard to say goodbye, but I am hoping there will be more in this series.
We also get to learn a bit more about the Amish here and their different buggies, an area of Pennsylvania that has three different top ones.
You will love the sweet interaction of Edie and her brother Jimmy, and she seems to take care of him with a heart of gold, don’t be surprised if there are pigs in the next book!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review
It’s time for the county’s fall festival and annual pie contest. For more years than not Alma, the bishop’s wife has made the award-winning boysenberry pie. Unfortunately, Alma finds herself on the wrong end of a cast iron skillet. Can Kappy and friends find out who would want to keep the bishop’s wife from participating in the pie cook-off this year?
I love this Amish cozy mystery series. The titles make me smile, the cover art is fun and the stories have hilarity to them even if they do involve murder. Kappy is a hoot. She tries so hard to follow the Ordung but her curiosity get her in scrapes every single time.
This is number three in the Amish Mystery series but each can be read as a stand-alone novel. As with any series, if you start with a book other than the first you will know the outcome of previous books. I would feel very comfortable giving this book, the entire series, to a teenager as a gift. There are no steamy romantic scenes, no offensive language and the murders that take place are nowhere near gory.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Kensington through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
I was hooked from the beginning with beloved characters Kappy, Edie, Jimmy and energetic Elmer in the latest cozy mystery by Amy Lillard. Edie had heard the news before Kappy about Alma Miller; however, Kappy saw the pictures from detective Jack. Even with the warning not to get involved with what happened to Alma, they couldn’t stand back and watch another tragedy in Blue Sky Valley when the pie baking contest festival was approaching. The new judge brought some concerned to these women and Frannie Lehman, the local baker who wanted to beat Alma Miller in the pie contest.
There are new rules for the pie baking contest, adventures for the residents, snooping into family secrets along with Kappy, Edie and even Jimmy wandering the countryside to try to find answers. Will they discover the true suspect before the pie contest? How will Jimmy play a role in solving this mystery?
Kappy King and the Pie Kaper is the third book in Amy Lillard’s An Amish Mystery series but it can be read as a standalone. I highly recommend reading each book and fall in love with the characters and the laughter along with tears they’ll provide. I would love to see Lillard pen more of these picturesque and captivating tales.
I received a complimentary ARC book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review but have expressed my sincere thoughts.
What do you have with a word-a-month calendar, a beagle, and an Amish prayer ‘kapp’ maker? Another fun adventure with Kathryn ‘Kappy’ King, her shunned sidekick, Edie Peachey along with Edie’s brother, Jimmy. This time they are trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together after the “accidental” death of boysenberry pie extraordinaire, Alma Miller. The Amish Mystery series set in Blue Sky, Pennsylvania, is entertaining, and you’ll want to be a part of the journey with Kappy and Edie. So, jump in, hang on and see if you can guess who did it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions are my own.
