Kathryn “Kappy” King is happy being a plain-spoken unmarried odd-woman-out in her Pennsylvania Amish hometown. Her talent is making the special kapps local women use to cover their hair. But her skill at uncovering trouble in this quiet valley is about to be truly tested . . . At first, young Sally June Esh’s tragic death doesn’t look like murder. Even in peaceful Blue Sky, collisions between … peaceful Blue Sky, collisions between buggies and Englisch cars aren’t unheard of. Still, the Eshes are skilled drivers used to delivering their popular pickles for miles around. And after Kappy notices Sally’s buggy was deliberately run off the road, her ex-Amish friend Edie gets strange texts saying the crash was no accident . . .
Kappy won’t let her community’s silence keep justice from being done. And even though a still-shunned Edie thinks of moving back to the city, she and Kappy start rooting out secrets about the Eshes’ long-time neighbors—and new pickle-producing rivals. But when they learn that Sally’s brother is secretly courting an Englisch girl, their investigation takes a disturbing turn . . .

An exciting story filled with action, mystery and a “who done it?” I couldn’t stop reading as I wanted to know what would happen next. How could pickles play a part in the mystery? Pickles, puppies, buggies and more… I enjoyed this one. I received a copy and this is my personal honest opinion. No review was required.
Great book to just sit back and enjoy. Good mystery, didn’t guess the murderer till the clear end. Well written and just plain enjoyable.
This was a murder mystery that absolutely kept me guessing until the last few pages. I like that, and I didn’t even have a correct guess.
Kappy and her friend Edie had solved the earlier murder of Edie’s mother, so when a young Amish girl was mowed over in her buggy by a hit and run automobile and killed they naturally got curious. Even more so when Edie started getting suspicious texts on her phone hinting that it wasn’t an accident. I loved the way they went about their regular lives and picked up clues and suspicions along the way. Their minds kept changing and they ran through clues they had collected and kept on digging and guessing. That kept me wondering too!
These characters were so fun and so refreshing. Kappy made the prayer kapps the Amish and Mennonite women wore in their community but I wondered where Edie got the money that kept her and her brother Jimmy going. He was a lovable addition to the girl’s shenanigans and was a big animal lover.
As I was reading I kept getting these crazy cravings for pickles, so went out and bought me a huge jar to nibble on! I wonder why…..
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the author/publisher but was not required to write a review.
Could these pickles literally be to-die-for?
OK, so there was just something about Kappy King And The Pickle Kaper that left me reading late into the night, or rather early in the morning. Maybe it was the growing friendship between Kappy and Edie, the fact that romance is not the main theme, maybe it was the adorably naughty Beagle Elmer….
As more of a cozy mystery this book has a fun vibe to it. Yeah, I know what I’m saying: Is murder ever ‘fun’? Well, as a matter of fact, yes, especially when it is such a neat story from author Amy Lillard.
I’ll have to make a little confession, while I guessed the killer pretty early on in book one I totally didn’t here, though, I actually guessed some of the key circumstances before the big revelation.
I really enjoyed Kappy King And The Pickle Kaper and I can’t wait to find out what trouble and adventures Amy Lillard will bring to Kappy, Edie, Jimmy, and Elmer next…
(I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are entirely my own.)
This novel is a witty addition to the Amish Mystery series. I think it would be best enjoyed after reading book one, Kappy King and the Puppy Kaper. This way, the reader will feel a connection with Edie, Kappy, and Jimmy from that story, and will understand what happened in their lives a few months before this book takes place.
I had a lot of fun reading Kappy King and the Pickle Kaper. There are some laugh out loud moments, but plenty of serious investigation, too. The author did a great job of keeping me guessing regarding the identity of the guilty party.
I enjoyed the hint of potential romance in the story. It was truly just a hint and definitely left me looking forward to seeing where Kappy’s love life may be headed in the future.
Kappy King and the Pickle Kaper would be a good choice for those who enjoy cozy mysteries and also for Amish fiction fans, as well.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
The Amish community of Blue Sky, PA is grieving once again with the loss of young Sally June Esh from a buggy accident. Jimmy and Edie Beachy were still recovering from the untimely death of their mother, the mystery of Kappy King and the Puppy Kaper, book one in Amy Lillard’s Amish Mystery series. Kappy King noticed something in a newspaper picture and determined it was not just an accident with an Englisher’s car but murder as there were no skid marks and with blue paint on the buggy. The antics of Kappy and her shunned neighbor, Edie Beachy, had me in stitches of laughter reading this humorous mystery as they went around in Edie’s car and then Kappy’s buggy trying to solve the mystery. Lovable Jimmy Beachy and his animals added to the story with Kappy advising Edie not to be overprotective of Jimmy or take him into her English world.
A new resident wanting her green pickles to be eaten instead of the usual white church pickles, the blue paint in the picture from the vehicle, text messages from an anonymous individual to Edie, overheard talk of Jonah Esh dating an Englisher girl and another young Amish man leaving the area gave them a list of suspects. Lillard creative adventures, dialogue and picturesque scenes that placed me right in the midst of Kappy and Edie’s detective work despite warnings from the local Detective Jack Jones—who Edie just may be flirting with. This cozy mystery was an amusing story that was a pure joy to read in trying to figure out the guilty suspect and the underlying romance of various characters. I look forward to another great mystery by Amy Lillard with her charming characters that brought moments of side-splitting laughter and tears at times.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review but have expressed my sincere thoughts.
On our second adventure in Blue Sky finds Kappy, Edie and Jimmie still recovering from finding who killed Edie and Jimmy’s mother. While on their way to pick up Jimmie, Edie and Kappy find themselves driving by the devastating crash between a buggy and a car. Too many this appears to be a tragic accident. But when Edie begins to receive texts from an unknown source about a possible murder, she and Kappy feel led to find answers. Who would have murdered Sally Jane? Was it really about Pickles?
I find these books to be fun reading. While they keep you guessing until the end as to who done it, I enjoy the antics of Kappy, Edie, Jimmie and the dogs. I love how one can relate to Amy Lillard’s characters. While this is a mystery, I found myself laughing out loud at the situations that Edie and Kappy find themselves in. If you are looking for an enjoyable read that will keep you company on a quiet night, welcome Kappy and her adventures into your to be read pile. I received an ARC from Netgalley. The review and opinions were not required.

This is a fun and easy read with plenty of twists and turns and a touch of romance and who knew there are white pickles!
I was given an ARC from Netgalley and Kensington Books for an honest review.
Kappy King and the Pickle Kaper is book two in an Amish Mystery series by Amy Lillard. I got a kick out of reading this book. You gotta love Kappy, Edie and Jimmy. What a great combination of characters. Every time you turned around something else was happening. Loved this story. Looking forward to the next story in this series.
Kappy King and the Pickle Kaper is a great reading book. Author Amy Lillard combined mystery, humor and a hint of romance for an amazing book. I enjoyed reading this book. The author was excellent as I was reading, I thought I knew what happened then there was a twist or turn. This is a great mystery. Author Amy Lillard kept my interest through the whole book. An amazing book I recommend to read. Kappy King and the Pickle Kaper is Book Two in Amish Mysteries by Author Amy Lillard.
I received a copy from the author, but was not required to review it. This review is one hundred percent my opinion.
I am so excited to read the next book in this series. Kappy is a hoot and I love her devotion to making kapps for the women in the community. I never really thought much about where the kapps came from. Kappy has a special gift for making them and is kept very busy with orders.
Kappy’s neighbor Edie is back as well and still just as spunky and curious as ever. When they happen upon an accident , they are saddened to see that a buggy is involved. The smell of vinegar is everywhere and pickles are spread all over the street. It is a real tragedy when it is discovered that Sally June Esh has passed away from the accident. She was young at only nineteen years old and the community is saddened by the loss.
Kappy and Edie crash the funeral looking to find any information about the accident. I had to laugh at these two sneaking around like two detectives looking for clues. They are too funny at times and it makes the story so enjoyable to read. I wonder if the author had two people she knew in mind when she wrote these two characters? When Edie starts getting strange texts on her phone about the buggy accident, questions start popping in Kappy and Edie’s head? Was it an accident or did someone deliberately cause the accident ? I love how the two women work together and are not afraid to investigate on their own. The banter between Kappy and Edie is hilarious. It is a miracle they agree on anything. One thing is for sure though, Sally June was murdered and they are convinced they will find out who did it.
As I continued to read the story I couldn’t wait to see what shenanigans our two female “detectives” would get into next. They aren’t real detectives, but they sure are better about finding clues than the police are. They know just the right questions to ask and have a knack for getting people’s trust. I loved how the women didn’t stop snooping and sure found themselves in trouble at times. It is a great story with an ending that I really enjoyed. I can’t wait for the next book in the series to find out what kind of trouble Kappy and Edie get into next. Just a thought; this series would make a great TV show. I wonder who would play the lead female characters?
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
One of those book that you can’t wait to read, but don’t know if you want to because then it will be done, but I couldn’t resist. Yes, this is the second book in this series and it can be read alone, enough information is provided, but you will miss out on a previously delightful book.
There is a sad part of this book, but most of it is full of chuckles, and becomes a quick page turner. We have two individual, one Amish, but considered a bit odd by the community, and the other an eclectic fence jumper, that came back to take care of her handicapped brother.
We get to watch, read, these two as they go about with their detective work of trying to solve a murder. Surprises and chuckles abound here, and I want more, and yes, I have to wait until December, but there is another coming!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review.
This is the first Amish mystery I’ve read by Amy Lillard but far from the first book I’ve read by her . There were some laugh out loud moments in this book for me. It kept me entertained trying to figure the ins and outs of the mystery. Every time I thought I had it solved the book took off in a gallop in a whole other direction with a new suspect.I really enjoyed reading ‘Kappy King and the Pickle Kaper’. There were twists everywhere, that I didn’t expect, which kept me guessing until the end.

Amy Lillard’s second book in the Kappy King mystery series takes us back to the Big Valley area of Pennsylvania to the Blue Sky community. Kappy King and the Pickle Kaper begins with a tragic fatal buggy accident. While the police look for a hit and run suspect, Kappy and her friend Edie, who is no longer Amish, receive mysterious text messages suggesting this was not an accident, it was intentional. So Kappy and Edie hit the pavement, highway, and fields to solve this crime involving a car, buggy, and white church pickles!
This book is filled with mystery, shady characters, and most importantly…humor! These two bumbling sleuth wanna be’s get themselves in and out of hot water daily. Edie’s brother Jimmy is back to add to the excitement as well as some other comical characters from book one. All in all this is a great summer read. This book releases June 26, 2018.
KAPPY KING AND THE PICKLE KAPER AMY LILLARD
Once again, Amy Lillard takes us back to Blue Sky Pennsylvania t,he home of Kappy “Kathryn” King the kapp maker of the Amish community.
In Kappy King and the Pickle Kaper, we find Kappy, her ex- Amish friend, and neighbor, Edie Peachey recovering from solving the murder of Edie ‘s mother. Things don’t stay quiet for very long however, when Sally Jane Esh is involved in a tragic buggy and vehicle accident, while on her way to deliver a order of pickles from her family’s business to the local store. Was this an accident or a murder, Who would kill someone over pickles. Could it be the new member of the Amish community who wants everyone to eat her green pickles instead of the traditional church pickles that the community is used to eating. Or was Sally Jane really the target of this tragic accident. Read this delightful Amish mystery and find out what antics Kappy and Edie get themselves mix up in this time while trying to solve this mystery.
Kappy King And The Pickle Kaper is a mystery. The turns have twists and the twists have fantastical turns. The book have the characters very grounded in their Faith – they need it. The answer to the mystery is hard to find. The characters are authentic and all around fun. The main characters are kind hearted and they are full of Faith. That is the way it should be. Will they figure who it is? It is a great big surprise – believe you me. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all of the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.
