I enjoyed Justin and Annabelle’s story, both hiding secrets yet falling in love. I also enjoyed how the beginning of the overall story of this series is written. This was a well written and plotted story.
Justin is a widower now; his wife died giving life to their daughter now 12. Justin is playing hide-and-seek with his brothers and goes close to ton and catches the scent of a woman causing him to desire her intensely. Justin smells the woman again she is there on his ranch for horseback riding. Annabelle decides she wants to move to Fairplay to be a teacher and she applies and gets the job. I enjoyed this love story except that I read Fairplay Shifters Prequel first in which Justin meet his wife in college and didn’t grow up together and in Prequel his wife’s name was Beth not Jenny. Justin is hiding he’s a shifter and Annabelle is hiding that she’s a witch. They get into serious trouble and end up needing their special abilities to save each other. I voluntarily reviewed this book for an honest review.
I received this book as a gift and I would like to give an honest opinion of what I read.
I really did enjoy this books, it was short but it still had a good plot to it. This is one book that I liked because it allowed me to escape from the world that I live in for a little while and sometime I think that is something that we all need to do every once in a while.
Justin is a shifter but this is where the story is a little different from some of the other books I have read. He prefers to shift into a mountain lion but has the ability to also shift into other animals as well. The story starts out with him turning 18 and in his family and the group that he is of that is the age of becoming an adult. He has know that he would someday have to take on the role of leadership but was not happy about the fact that his father was making him go to college. That is until that night when his father took him aside and explained to him that the world was changing and that he needed to have the knowledge that the college would give him to lead the people into that change.
Beth Norton was turning 18 as well and was excited about going to college. She had at one time didn’t know if the time would come for her. She had been in and out of hospitals for the last six years; that is up until four months ago. Her mother who had constantly been there monitoring everything that she did, and ate to try and keep her healthy was strongly opposed to the idea of her going so far off to college. She had, had so much control over Beth’s lift that she didn’t know or want to give it up. Instead she refused to go with Beth from their home on the East Coast to her help her set up her dorm room all the way to Colorado University; the same school that Justin was going going to.
Beth and Justin meet the day they arrived. She pulled up behind them and watched as his entire family helped to unload his things and carry them into his dorm. She envied them having such a close net relationship and was trying to think how she was going to get her things into her dorm room. She takes everything out of her car to figure out what she really needed to take in when Justin’s family offered to help her and just started to pick things up. She was so drawn to Justin and she didn’t quit understand it. She had been so sheltered while she was sick she never had a chance to really make friends, let alone boy friends. On one occasion late at night Justin heard a scream and heard drunken guys laughing in his need to help he shifted to protect her and once it was over he ran to the woods coming right back to find out if she was all right. It was then that they both started their relationship together. It was later that she found out that he was a shifter but she was not concerned with that she loved him; the problem was going to be with their parents. How were the going to get their parent to understand their relationship, or are they going to do their best to break them apart.
This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. Fairplay Shifters: Justin by Serene Meadows is Book One in a new shifter series. This is Justin and Annabelle’s story. I really found myself enjoying the setup and the way the storyline developed. There are a very strong set of primary characters and an amazingly intricate set of secondary characters that I can’t wait to read more about. This is a book about growth and love, responsibility to ourselves and others, the importance of communication and honesty. Great read, lots of fun and deep running emotions!
