Daxton Chambers loved being a part of the oldest and most distinguished law enforcement agency in the state of Texas…the Texas Rangers. But whoever was burying women alive in his city of San Antonio was always two steps ahead of him…and he hated it.
Mackenzie Morgan lived what she considered a normal life. She worked at a non-profit agency, hung out with her best friend, had an annoying, but … annoying, but loving, family, was clumsy, had a tendency to ramble when she was nervous…and was still searching for the man to spend the rest of her life with.
Meeting Mack, and finding out just how perfect she was for him, wasn’t a part of Dax’s plan…but he’d be damned if he was going to complain about it. Unfortunately, Dax’s job wasn’t always safe…Both Mack and Dax would find that out the hard way.
**Justice for Mackenzie is the 1st book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

exciting romance read—enjoyable
This was my first novel by Susan Stoker and I actually listened to this as part of the Texas Hero Audio book box set. Normally I am not a fan of third person POV but for Audio books it works really well. Erin Mallen the narrator for the box set did a brilliant job of all 4 books and I thoroughly enjoyed them.
Justice for Mackenzie is based around Mackenzie (Mack) the heroine, an unlucky in love 38 year old that has some quirky ways and talks a lot. The Hero is Dax a 46 year old Texas Ranger that is proud of his job but has given up on finding that special someone until he meets Mack in a couple of chance meetings.
I loved that Dax and Mack are a more mature couple, their chemistry is off the charts, I loved that Mack kept Dax on his toes and in line. That him being a Texas Ranger didn’t intimidate her at all. Dax is definitely Alpha especially n the bedroom and gets your temperature up with his dirty talking. Add into the mix the suspense element when a serial killer sets his sights on destroying Dax and my heart was pounding at certain points. A certain scene brought tears to my eyes for sure. I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to hearing the stories for the other different law enforcement officers we met throughout this book in Dax’s circle.
I admire every author for all their hard work. I enjoyed the story, and will read more books written by this author. The characters are adorable and the story telling is consuming. I escaped in a well-written romantic fictional world until I finished reading.
All of Susan Stoker romantic suspense novels are winners with very realistic a believable characters, strong storylines with a hot romance. I’ve never been disappointed with anything she’s written that I’ve been fortunate enough to have read. They are thrilling, edgy and suspenseful enough to keep you glued to you Kindle!
I love anything by Susan Stoker and would highly recommend this book.
4.5 s for Justice!
I’ve only just recently finished a book by Susan that I read as an advanced copy on another series and decided to see if I could find the start to another series from her and found this book in my library. So I started reading and this book had me gripping the edge of my chair, my heart palpitating to the point of anxiety and also a bit of butterflies in my stomach! Dalton was an all around gentleman and I love him and Mackenzie together:) A word of advice keep some tissues close, but other than that there are moments that I laughed and also some intense scenes too!
I’m going to go buy myself the first volume in this series, so I can read Mickie and Cruz next
‘Justice for Mackenzie’ is the first book that I read from the writer Susan Stoker but I had heard good things about her books. So I decided to try one and I must say that I enjoyed this story. One of the things that caught my attention was the age of the main characters. After reading a lot of new adult books, it was interesting to read about a couple who were a bit older (read : closer to my own age ;o) ). Daxton is 45 years old and Mackenzie is 37 years old. Another thing that I liked in this story was the honesty, the down to earth mentality of the characters. They weren’t perfect, each had their own little faults but I liked how they accepted that and dealt with it. Both characters were very likeable. Just like Daxton, I enjoyed Mackenzie rambling about everything she thought. And Daxton was a great guy. The story wasn’t very long but the storyline was well written and the characters were good developed. And the end, wow! That was emotional, I never expected that! The story is told in both POV’s.
This is such a great story. But be prepared …there are definite tissue moments. I loved both Dax and Mackenzie. The fact that they were not twenty somethings was a big plus in my book. Both are strong, confident characters who acknowlege their humanity. There is nothing sexier than confidence.
Oh my goodness I dove into this one and forgot to breathe for a while. When I got to know Mackenzie, and the penny dropped on the title my heart was racing. Was she going to die? Would I have to go and hunt the author down for making me cry lol ?
I fell in love with these two characters Daxton and Mack and his team that accepted her into their fold. That short curvy woman could be me, hmm so where’s my tall cop? Brilliant that they were mature, both over 35 and finding love while fighting insecurities.
This is an author that writes from the heart, I love the scenes she sets and the characters I always grow to love.
So, it’s just the fourth book by the author that I could get my fingers on and it’s as absolutely amazing as the others I’ve read. Mack and Dax are both sophisticated and came to termes, that they might spent the rest of their lifes alone. But then they cross paths and nothing will ever be the same again. Unfortunately there’s a psycho in the run who set it’s aim in Mack… This ist a wonderful story of two people fertig to know each other just to be torn apart – oh this one scene at the end ist almost unbearable…
Great
He is a Texas Ranger working on as tough case with police departments. He has made friends with a group that are all really close. He bet on the SAFD to win the basketball game against the SAPD and because he loss the group where going to a charity event for San Antonio Cares which is being organized by Mackenzie. That were Daxton first sees her. They don’t run into other again until she gets pulled over for speeding by his best friend and he happens to be in. One stop, one phone call, and one date later they keep from knowing each other. A lot happens which makes this books wonderful.
Good book but really over did the f-bomb
Really enjoyed Mack’s ramblings, wit and sense of humor!
Good story and characters…
Love this author
Sex scenes too graphic and too soon. It just seemed like a recipe. I enjoy the men and women’s stories. But, I will find someone who can write similar books excluding graphic sex. Reminds me of sitting in my grandmother’s attic reading her old True Love magazines and Peyton Place. Otherwise, good story.
Just don’t think all the sex and language are necessary. She has some good plot lines and I would love to know what happens but just can’t read her books.
Laughter and tears!
I like Susan Stoker’s books on general and this was a good start to a series
Good mystery
