Mousey, overweight Stacey Sullivan would love to trade places with her glamorous socialite BFF, Jessica James—that’s until she discovers Jessica murdered in her own home. Whip-smart detective Rachel Storme is ready to exchange her gun and badge for a gardener’s hat and hoe. But she reluctantly puts her plans on hold when she’s asked to help solve Jessica’s murder. These two strangers from … different generations—Stacey a millennial and Rachel a baby boomer—become unlikely friends in their pursuit of JUSTICE FOR JESSICA. But their friendship is put to the test when Stacey insists that her husband, Matt, is innocent in spite of evidence that speaks to the contrary. Rachel, baffled by Stacey’s blind loyalty to Matt, doggedly fights to take Matt down, but with Stacey’s help, he eludes her at every turn. Is Matt the killer or could Grant, Jessica’s husband, be the culprit? Perhaps it was her jealous sister, Georgette or the maid, Rosa? No matter who the killer is, Rachel, by any means necessary, is determined to find her man or woman.

Kept me guessing who done it to the very end
Justice for Jessica was on okay read. Jessica gets her throat slashed while her BFF is sleeping down the hall. Turns out Jessica wasn’t all that nice and definitely not a BFF. Stacy on the other hand is so pathetic, you wonder if they killed the wrong person. They could have put her out of her misery.
Stacy is married to a “clean and sober” reformed drug dealer who married her for her money, but she managed to lose all of it. Now he doesn’t really like her at all and she is so clingy and needy it makes my teeth hurt.
Most of the characters in the book seem to be characatures. Just a little too much. Stacy is too needy. Her husband, Matt, is major manipulator. Rachel, the super detective, is too intuitive to be true. Rachel’s boss, is a Bob Marley wanna be.
I have to say, of all the people I considered to be the killer, the one who actually did it wasn’t even on my radar. Go figure.
Justice for Jessica would have been much better is the characters were toned down a couple of notches. If Stacy wasn’t so pitiful, if Matt wasn’t such a jerk, if Rachel wasn’t so perfect.
I can even get past Rachel telling Stacy everything going on in the investigation to the point of putting her in danger. Highly unlikely.
Oh yeah. This all happens within ten days. The day before the funeral for Jessica, Stacy decides to start exercising. She gets on her mom’s old treadmill and the next day everyone tells her how much better she looks and that she has lost so much weight. Really? I want that treadmill.
Several story lines just seemed to be thrown in for no reason like Rachel’s mom having dementia and being in a drug trial. But drug trial must have worked because her mom is moving into her own place by the end of the book. In ten days? Who knew.
I personally won’t be reading anymore books by Alretha Thomas. Again, it is just me. I want my characters to be likable or someone one to hate, not just really annoying.
Good book. Very unpredictable as to who murdered Jessica. Police officer confided in one of the potential suspects. The best friend’s husband was a unlikely friend of Jessica’s husband. They travelling in totally different circles.
Very well written. Interesting characters, lots of twists and turns kept me guessing in this murder mystery. Great use of English language with very few misspelled words and excellent grammar and sentence structure. Poor spelling, grammar, etc. always detract from a book for me so I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
Great book. If you think you know who did it, as I did. Think again. I just loved it. She needs to write a lot more books. I’m on #2 now.
interesting characters, many potential murderers, and some plot twists. It kept my interest for sure.
Great read that kept your interest.
