This is Dallas and Macey’s book. We met both of them in the previous book in this series, Witness. Dallas is an FBI agent and Macey is a nurse. They have know each other for years and have been in love with each other but were just friends. When they finally get together a tragedy tears them apart. Macey tries to push Dallas out of her life for good but he refuses to leave, though he does give her space to try and work on her problems. He definitely loves her through it all. These two both show up fairly often in the Dogs of Fire series also. There are a couple of other side characters that also show up in the other books. I hope Jaxon will get his own book and Payton does get her HEA in Road to Redemption. I love how Piper Davenport’s different series have these interwoven characters.
We met both Macey and Dallas in the previous book, Witness. We knew there was some type of previous relationship between them, but not what the details of that relationship was, or what happened to that relationship. This is their story.
Macey is a nurse at a local hospital. She grew up with Dallas, Payton, and Brock. Macey and Dallas danced around each other for years before admitting their feelings for one another. Then the unthinkable happens, and Macey pushes everyone away, including Dallas. Dallas moves on with his life, and career, never forgetting about Macey, and all that she means to him. Dallas finally pushes his way back into her life, and then things start getting strange, Macey’s past comes back to haunt her.
This book continued with what we were introduced to in Witness. Many of the same characters are in this book, and there are references to some events that occur in that book. However, this story could be read as a stand alone with no problems at all. There was a lot of action in this book, bad guys, and tense situations. It moved along at a brisk pace, and kept me guessing all along. It also introduced us to a few characters from an upcoming series, and ties in nicely with those! This book was exciting, and fun, and I loved the interactions between Macey and Dallas! Their relationship is both loving and HOT! As with all of the books that I’ve read by this author, I enjoyed everything about it, and it’s definitely worth reading!
Love all of Pipers work.
Wow, just simply, wow! I loved Dallas and Macey, but my heart broke for them too. What Macey lived through was horrific. And reactions to that I can easily imagine the way they did in this book. But Macey is strong and a fighter, and Dallas has the strength and patience of a saint. He gives her the space & time she thinks she needs, but he never gives up. That right there, is nothing short of amazing.
Dallas and Macey have known each other for years before they connect, and that gives them a beautifully strong foundation. Then a horrific incident drives them apart, that takes a few years for them to attempt to get back together.
I loved these two and the relationship they have. It’s an incredible book. Piper Davenport is still (and probably always will be) a favorite author of mine that I will always one-click to buy.
Attempted to read but very stilted. Not worth the time.
Stalkers
Macey & Dallas have been friends forever, and been in love with each just as long but never did anything about it until 2 years ago. The had a great night out and got back to her place and the night was perfect. He was doing testing for his job with the FBI so she was going to stay with Payton, but before she could leave she was attacked and raped. Brock killed the guy. While she was healing Dallas & Brock moved her in Payton into an apartment they could share but she didn’t want to see him. Two years, counseling and time got them slowly back together, now there is more.
I loved how the hero never gave up- he was committed to her and never failed to prove his love. The heroine has been through something incredibly traumatic and I loved that her friends and families recognized that her reactions were rooted in that trauma. They were supportive and loving which is exactly what she needed. It was a great story!
Unfortunately, I do not recommend this book. The author definitely needs to learn to write!
I could not even finish it. Normally I love Romantic Suspense . Book is a basic narrative with no substance.
plenty steamy
Decent story line. Heroine is annoying as she refuses to listen to reason and then is sorry. Would read more of this series. Characters are good.
Great read—
Macey and Dallas
Two years ago, everything was moving in one direction for Macey and Dallas….towards a relationship together where they got married and started a family. But one night when Dallas is away for work, tragedy strikes and finds Macey in the hospital. Macey feeling sorry for herself pushes everyone away including Dallas.
A long journey for this couple to get back to where they were, with some more danger and unexpected twists.
Will read another of the “Justice” series, this was 2nd and good characters
This book gave me a sensitive insight into the after effects of rape. It was a powerful story. Happily, the hero and heroine provide a happy ending.
Great e read keeps you guessing.
Loved it! I want a Dallas of my very own!
Always love her books
Macey & Dallas get two thumbs up! They have some wonderful chemistry & their affection for each other & their friends & family shine off the page. They definitely get put thru the ringer, but at the same time, there is low relationship drama because we never doubt their love for one another. There’s also the mystery surrounding Macey’s drama. Good stuff! : )
Was great once I got into it.
Great read
