A steamy, full-length, standalone romance with a guaranteed HEA from Amazon Bestselling author J.H. Croix! If you like smoking hot romance with alpha men and strong women, you’ll love this series!
Just This Once is a friends to lovers story between a brilliant prosecutor who’s sworn off love and a Navy SEAL who’s been hiding his feelings for too long. Becca Hamilton is a busy prosecutor who’s … a busy prosecutor who’s dedicated and passionate about her work. After being left high and dry days before her wedding several years ago, she promised herself she wouldn’t let her heart become vulnerable again. Yet, she didn’t count on temptation in the form of Aidan McNamara.
Aidan McNamara is many a woman’s dream—a tall, dark, sexy-as-hell military type who tends to save the day so often it’s annoying. Becca has been quite successful at ignoring the spark that burns every time Aidan is near. Until he shows up and happens to save her evening. One scorching hot kiss on a rainy night, and Becca begins to question the limits she set for herself. She gambles she can allow herself just one night with Aidan.
Aidan has been half in love with Becca since the first time he laid eyes on her. A chance encounter kindles hope in his heart. He can’t say no when she asks for one night, but he knows from the start he wants more.
Becca quickly discovers that ‘just once’ won’t even come close to satisfying her desire. She’s completely unprepared for the depth of feelings Aidan elicits. Forced to take a much-needed break from work, she decides a journey to Last Frontier Lodge in Alaska might give her some perspective and a long overdue adventure. A trip she hoped would clear her head only leaves her missing Aidan so much she can hardly stand it.
Aidan is a man of plans and action, but with Becca, he’s winging it every step of the way. When she takes off to Alaska, he finds himself following her even though it goes against his grain. Can Becca let down her guard long enough to let Aidan into her heart? Can Aidan convince her he’s worth more than just once?
*All novels in this series are full-length standalone novels with an HEA.

Aiden and Becca’s journey was amazing and I loved seeing Becca overcome her fears. Their story was fantastic and is filled love, steam and so many feels! I am absolutely loving this group of family and friends and can’t wait to see more of them.
JUST A KISS is a standalone novella with a happy ending. There is no cliffhanger. It is a very steamy, sexy read if that is an issue for you. I loved it and definitely recommend it. Eva is the CEO of her own gaming company. She is brilliant, single, beautiful. Her friend thinks she needs to get out more and signs her up for a new dating site. She goes along and agrees to the first date. The jerk takes her to a BDSM club. She is outraged that since she doesn’t even know him he would do this. She dumps him at the reception desk and he storms off. Then she hears a sexy voice call her name. It is her old boss when she was an intern. He owns one of the most successful gaming companies and she served under him as an intern. He is beyond yummy but he never noticed her. He tells her to come with him and he will take her home. She finds out that even though he is a millionaire he lives two streets over. She is finding out that he is not who she thought he was. He did notice her and now that she has grown up a little he would like to date her. She is shocked and thrilled. This is one sexy book. It is a good read and I really enjoyed it. Entertaining and fun. You can’t go wrong unless you don’t download. Good read.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 1/25/2012
These books just keep getting better in my opinion!
Aiden has been in love with Becca, his best friends little sister, since he first laid eyes on her ten yrs ago! A former Navy SEAL, he kept his distance, knowing his deployments and missions would be too hard on her.
Becca is a tough as nails prosecutor and has sworn off men and any type of relationship. That’s what happens when you find your fiancé in a compromising position with one of your bridesmaids, two days before your wedding! She is embarrassed and bitter. There is no way her attraction to Aiden will ever go anywhere!
Until one rainy night outside of Seattle where Aiden finds her in the ditch after being run off the road. Their first kiss is a scorcher! Knocking them both sideways and upside down! Now, neither of them knows what to do with the feeling running through their heads!
This story was hot, sexy, steamy and sweet all rolled into one nice package! Check this series out today!
As the series continues I have been enjoying it more and more. I might say this in every review, but it has yet to top her Swoon Series. Even though this series isn’t my favorite, it is still worth the read! Just This Once was the third book in J.H. Croix’s Last Frontier Lodge Series. They are all inter-connected, but can be read as stand-alones. It was sweet, sexy, and heartwarming.
Becca had a few trust issues from being left a few days before her wedding. She poured herself into her work and didn’t pay attention to the opposite sex. That may have been why she didn’t see Aidan coming.
Aidan had been infatuated with Becca for years. But timing had never been on his side until now. A small accident had him coming to her rescue and he knew it was his chance. But would their expectations of what they could be match up?
I loved how in control Aidan was until it came to Becca. He was head over heels for her! They were so cute together! It was also great to see updates of everyone!!
Sizzling romance with a fabulous hero
Aidan McNamara is a close friend of Becca Hamilton’s two older brothers, and beloved by her whole family. He and her brothers served together as SEALs, thereby forming a lifelong bond. Unbeknownst to Becca, Aidan has been half in love with her for the last 10 years, ever since the first time he met her when he was 28 and she was 23. Unfortunately for Aiden, the timing was never right to approach her to form a relationship. He was either overseas on a mission, or she was in a relationship with someone else. And during the last 3 years, even though they have both been single and both live and work in Seattle, she as a prosecutor and he as the owner of a private security firm, Becca has bitterly sworn off men. She discovered her fiancé cheating on her days before their wedding, and her trust in men, and her own judgment about them, has been sharply eroded.
Then comes the night when, on the way to visit her parents in a small town near Seattle, she is run off the road by a drunken driver who flees the scene. Fortuitously, Aiden, who has a younger sister who lives in the same town as her parents, is driving to visit his sister along the same highway where Becca is stranded. He recognizes her car in the ditch and rushes to assist her. During a moment of emotional vulnerability for both of them, in Aiden’s dark car on that same rainy night, they share a steamy kiss. Suddenly, all sorts of romantic possibilities flare between the two of them that neither of them would ever have dreamed possible before that moment.
Becca is a strong heroine and very admirable, both personally and ethically, but for me, Aiden steals the show in this book. He is a phenomenal hero, both strong and compassionate. A dynamic occurs between them in their sex scenes that I have only ever seen in a few other romance novels where the heroine is recovering from a traumatic sexual assault, which this heroine is not. Knowing how prickly Becca is, with emotional defenses a mile high after her fiancé’s devastating betrayal, Aiden instinctively allows her, during every single sexual encounter in this book, to make the first move. While I have nothing against the classic romance novel favorite, the alpha male who leads the way, I found it simultaneously heartwarmingly cozy and blazingly sexy for a blatantly alpha male like Aiden to surrender sexual control to his female lover.
This is the third book in an extremely enjoyable series whose books are set mainly at the Frontier Lodge in Alaska. This particular book occurs partly in Seattle but mostly at the Frontier Lodge. As a result, this very naturally and organically permits fun cameos by characters from the previous two books in the series as well as quick and meaningful appearances from characters who star in books of their own later in the series, most especially Aiden’s younger sister Ellie.
I rate this book as follows:
Heroine: 4 stars
Hero: 5 stars
Subcharacters: 5 stars
Romance plot: 5 stars
Setting: 5 stars
Writing: 5 stars
Overall: 5 stars
This is sweet romance. I enjoy the Last Frontier series, the characters are likeable and entertaining, and J.H. Croix’s story really make me want to travel to Alaska. Becca and Aiden have each hidden their feelings for a long time and in this book they finally have to face their feelings and accept how good they are as a couple. The addition of Oscar to the mix is really cute. I look forward to more of this series.
This is the third book in the Frontier Lodge series. Each book is about one of the siblings that own the lodge and the story of how they find true love. Each has a HEA but once you read one book you are hooked!
This is Becca and Aidan’s story. Becca is Garrett’s twin (2nd book) and is a prosecutor in Seattle. She defends the little people and she is totally against love after her fiance dumped her two days before their wedding.
Aidan is an ex-SEAL who was on the same team as Gage (1st book). He has been in love with Becca ever since he met her but never thought he’d have a chance with her. When she asks for one night of hot sex with him, he jumps at the chance hoping he can convince her of more. Becca’s work intervenes and she’s forced to take a month of leave. She’s so upset about work and confused about Aidan that she hops on a plane to hide out at her family’s lodge in Alaska. Aidan finally follows her and convinces her they deserve a HEA.
I love J.H. Croix the most for her descriptive writing, and I’m not just talking about the romance scenes, which are really hot! She makes you feel like you are right there with the characters.
So far there are seven books in the series and I hope she comes up with Sawyer’s story soon. (He’s the youngest sibling.)
fun read
5-star read. Another great read from J.H. Croix. Becca is a strong will woman and thinks she doesn’t need any man, after her wedding was stopped 2 days from happening. Aiden is a former Navy Seal and runs his own security firm. He’s loved her for years. Will they come together like they are meant to.
I really like the Last Frontier Lodge series and that it’s set in Alaska. It’s a beautiful setting and everyone is so relaxed and happy there. But Just This Once starts with Becca working in Seatle as a lawyer. When she had an accident, Aiden, an old friend of her brother’s, stopped to help her. They had always been attracted to each other but didn’t let on. This time was different. Becca had sworn off men after catching her fiancé with another woman just before their wedding so she hadn’t been with a man for a couple of years.
Not wanting her ex to be the last man she had sex with, she propositioned Aiden with the plan that they have sex just once. He didn’t have to think twice about it but accepted immediately. But “just once” wasn’t enough for either of them.
This was a hot romance with well-developed characters in a gorgeous setting. Aidan, being an ex-Navy SEAL and tall, dark, and handsome was perfect. Like Becca, he didn’t want a relationship, though for different reasons. Becca was very stubborn but loosened up as she began to trust Aidan. When she was forced to take a month long vacation, she visited her brother in Alaska. After a couple of weeks, Aiden was worried that she would talk herself into ending their relationship so he went there too.
This was a good story but there was too much sex that wasn’t necessary for the story. It was interesting to see how Becca and Aiden struggled with their feelings. Can they trust each other?
3.5 stars
You won’t be able to put it down.
Quick read. Enjoyable, but not unforgettable.
She is recuperating from a failed romance and decided to visit her ex-SEAL brother in Alaska. She has sworn off men but really likes his SEAL friend who rescues her and pursues her. There is a happy ending.
I have been reading this author now for a while, J.H. Croix . Lovely places, in Alaska, amazing descriptions, strong character’s, sometimes a little repetitive in explaining characters lives past & present. I enjoy the books this Author writes.
Diamond Creek, Kachemac Bay, Last Frontier Lodge is a real place in Alaska. My husband and I plan to go sometime in the next year. We love Alaska.
Cute story. Getting old friends to realize they are in love and forgetting their past mistakes is an interesting adventure.
Very Predictable but easy to read.
good story
Love this author.
Great read
