“Top 2019 Reads List!” -Guide To Romance Novels Just Ten SecondsThat’s all it took for my life to change forever.I left my posh life in Manhattan and escaped to the Hudson Valley in hopes of a fresh start. It wasn’t until I happened upon a bereavement group when I finally found a place I felt understood. I told them my husband was dead when, really, I was the one who had died inside. It was also … the one who had died inside. It was also where I saw the smoldering gaze of Dean Delgado, the single father whom I’d helped just days before.
Just Ten Seconds
That’s all he wishes he had with his late wife.
Despite Dean’s widowed status, he has a robust thirst for life. He’s a protector and a giver. A man who fixes things with his hands, is devoted to his child, and wants to spend his days with me. I try to avoid him, knowing a woman with my past has no business being in this man’s life. With every run-in, he makes me laugh. With every touch, he ignites me. And with every second, he makes me feel like myself again.
Just Ten Seconds
That’s all it took for me to fall in love with Dean Delgado.
I’m in too deep and my secrets are about to be exposed. I only hope he can forgive me for the lies I never meant to tell.
This is a second-chance-at-love romantic standalone.

Five stars! My favorite read of this year!

Really enjoyable second chance at love story!
Both Dean and Mara’s lives have been touched by tragedy but where one is ready to be motivated by the future, the other is still being hurt by the past. My heart really embraced Mara’s character as she is so lost and is just stuck in kind of a purgatory like holding pattern in her life. The day Dean and Amanda walked through the door of the cafe she, unbeknownst to herself, begins to have a purpose again. I liked Dean and I liked what he brought out in Mara. I felt like he pushed her, maybe too much too soon at times, but in the end I think he really helped get her where she needed to be to move forward because regardless of the timing what she needed to do to move on was going to hurt.
The story was really strong and I like that the plot progressed steadily all the way through the story. I love when a book is full of great side characters and this one had them in spades, making the story multidimensional and just adding to the overall enjoyment. Really solid read!
5* Second Chance Love Stars
Jeannine Colette is a new author to me, and I am so happy that I got the opportunity to read, “Just Ten Seconds”. It is a beautifully written second chance at love for both Mara and Dean.
Their story is an emotional journey of learning to love and heal after losing loved ones in different ways and accepting the paths they chose to cope with these losses.
Dean was an amazing kind man and father. I admired Mara as she was a hard worker who did not give up after losing her posh life in Manhattan.
The secondary characters in the book were very likeable and real and you will connect with them instantly. Mara and Dean were lucky to be surrounded by them.
This was a fantastic read which was full of feels from heartache to forgiveness and undeniable love.
The cover of the book was beautiful and so inviting. I was so happy to be able to read the added Bonus Epilogue that was available for download as I was not quite ready to leave Dean and Mara yet.
My heart and soul are brimming with love for Just Ten Seconds by Jeannine Colette! This book was absolutely incredible! It’s jam packed with angst and emotion, yet has plenty of room for witty and flirtatious banter that had me devouring page after page. Just Ten Seconds took me completely by surprise and held my attention throughout the book. I simply could not look away!
At this point in my reading journey it sometimes takes a lot to surprise me, and Jeannine Colette absolutely did just that. As a new to me author, I’m dying to read everything she’s written!
Readers can expect a captivating and emotionally compelling story, with humor, plot twists, and most of all, hope. Just Ten Seconds by Jeannine Colette is sure to capture you, heart and soul.
So much sadness. This book really depicts life after the loss of a loved one. When you’re lost and mad and angry at the world and don’t know what to do with yourself. After awhile people don’t want to see sadness anymore and often tell people they need to move on but each person grieves differently. For whatever reason the world only has finite time to want to devote to your sadness and then it is expected you pick up and move on but that’s not how grief works. Mara has suffered a tremendous blow. You don’t learn until later in the book the true nature of her loss and how her world was thrown off its axis. While she did suffer a loss most would say she didn’t compared to the group in terms of Benjamin. She definitely suffered the loss of life but you don’t know that until later. While dean lost his wife to cancer. I loved dean and Amanda. They were an adorable daughter daddy combo. Just making you smile with their interactions. He is swoon worthy and total book boyfriend material. Loved how he slowly got Mara to open up and learn to live again. Shocked by the twists and turns of this book and their truly deeper Connections they had before meeting. Great story.
First, extremely well written. Nice use of pacing, vocabulary, and grammar usage. I didn’t like the overall conflict. I really didn’t like how the author changed it halfway through. I know it’s meant to be a “twist”, but as a reader, I felt lied to just like Dean. It wasn’t clever, it was a tad contrived. And you have a hint that it’s coming at the very beginning. Overall, it’s a good book that would’ve been even better without trying to be “cute”.
I adore stories about people finding true love, but even more than that I can’t get enough of stories about people who are learning to value themselves. Mara is a young woman who decided in her 20s that she didn’t deserve much more than to merely exist in life until she accidentally meets Dean and his adorable daughter Amanda in a moment of crisis. This story is about compassion, fate, friendship, lust, love, self worth, honesty, and forgiveness told in a very entertaining and heart felt way. I’m now on to read Wrecked, the next book by this awesome author!
I have just finished this book and need to say immediately that it is just so beautiful, heart-rending and heart warming, and I have loved every single word!
Using time as a linking image throughout, Just Ten Seconds captures heart stopping events that change lives in an instant, the cruelty of time allocated to life cut short, the way in which our hearts and minds respond to life changing events, how ten seconds can have an impact that resonates for years. But while it deals with impact from shocking, instant events, it also shows how another ten seconds can bring the wind of change for something new and wonderful, “Because, in ten seconds, the most beautiful things can happen. You just have to be in the moment to experience them.”
Populated by a cast of wonderful ‘support’ characters, the book is also witty and fun, brining that sense of the richness of life and the love that true friendship brings to even our darkest days
Written with skill, thoughtfulness, insight and tenderness, Just Ten Seconds is, for me, one of the outstanding books of this year. I rarely cry when reading, or avoid any book that elicits those reactions, but I was hooked on this story from the start and became so invested that, on a couple of occasions I was reading through mist and at no point did I resent that. The sentiments felt real, life affirming and completely relatable. This is a book of hope, redemption, love and courage. I loved it.
If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. I have reread it a few times because it is so amazing. The character development is phenomenal. The story line is original and heartbreaking. The chaos of the interconnectedness of the world is on full display in this book. The main characters are both broken and battered, trying to manage their way through the world almost one day at a time. The lovely flow of their relationship, the hope, the beauty of second chances, and the love they both radiate is palpable. This is an excellent read that I highly recommend. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Colette in the near future.
10 seconds changed her entire life. She was living a dream and in 10 seconds it became a nightmare. She got away but she carried secrets. One day she met him and in those 10 seconds her life was changed for the better. I enjoyed this book a lot.
How quickly things can change from one moment to the next. Choices, however necessary, often change your whole life.
This was a fabulous book, one that I kept thinking about after I was done reading. That to me makes it a pretty great read!
Mara is escaping, Dean is coping. The kindness and care shown to Dean and his daughter, by Mara, is the touchstone that begins healing in both of them.
This is my first read by Ms. Colette and it won’t be my last. She can certainly turn a phrase! Using an hourglass in this work to show the passage of time or the lingering of love was spot on. Very enjoyable read.
This is the story of Mars and Dean. Both of these characters have been through life changing and grief provoking events. They are first brought together by Deans eight year old daughter getting hurt. Mara stops everything to help them.
They are again brought together at a support group. Dean is a widow and will make you swoon in everyway. There is some amazing twists in this book.
This story had angst, heart and some many lines that I highlighted due to the authors way with words.
This is a memorable read that I know I will be revisiting again. Amazing main and secondary characters.

This book will give you all the feels! Heartbreak, loss, healing, and love. I loved Dean and Mara and their journey to their happily ever after. Dean”s daughter, Amanda, definitely steals the show. She is so cute and sassy!

When Dean and Mara met at a support group for those with deceased spouses, it’s instant attraction, but both are still struggling with what happened in their pasts. I felt for both of them because they had been through so much.
I enjoyed how well Mara connected with Dean’s young daughter, Amanda. I felt, however, that there was more of a build up of a relationship between Mara and Amanda rather than Dean and Mara’s relationship. As a result, I felt the romance between Dean and Mara wasn’t as strong as it could have been. At times it felt like they were more like friends than lovers.
There’s a twist involving Mara and her husband that I enjoyed. I wasn’t crazy with how she revealed it to Dean, but it was interesting nonetheless.
Just Ten Seconds is a story about moving on and getting a second chance to find love. While I had some issues with it, I still thought it was a good read.
**I voluntarily and read reviewed a copy provided via Booksprout**
This is an intense love story between two people that had lost so much. Mara’s character and her story is unlike any other I have read, which is what makes this book unique. Dean is a great guy trying his best to navigate true friendship, an innocence in Amanda, wisdom in Rita, hopefulness from the bereavement group, and even insight from the grumpy Mr. Kenner.
This author drew me into Dean and Mara’s relationship and their past turmoils. For different reasons I felt for both characters to the point that I shared their tears and pain. This book was so compelling it took the emotional and heart-wrenching conversations at Instillation of Hope and Fishkill to bring me to a place where I could forgive and root for a new beginning for this couple.
For a captivating story to earn a 5 Stars rating from me it must include an Epilogue worthy of book. This book didn’t disappoint.
Such a sweet story of getting through your past to move on and love again. Mara and Dean met at the perfect time and found connection with each other.

Truly loved this book. It’s a wonderful sweet romance with a very unexpected twist. The characters are so well developed that I was sucked right into the story and felt many emotions. This is the first book I have read from Jeannine, but it wouldn’t be my last.
This is the first time in coming across this author with the story catching my attention. What happens when you want fresh but come across also something promising? The title though also tells alot to what you come across. This is also kinda profound to think about-just ten seconds-can cover alot also. Mara and Dean take you on this journey with it also simmering as it builds. You get to see inside and witness the outside. This also gives a different perspective that keeps you riveted for the most part. You are feed many emotions that will also pull on yours. I would probably read another from this author because her words can keep my attention with her characters.
Just Ten Seconds is beautifully written and full of emotion. It reminds us our pasts do not define us and we are in charge of our future. I was sucked into Mara and Dean’s world from the start. I couldnt put this book down. It is a well written plot with a good flow with some twists and turns. I love the fact Dean is a single dad and love for his family. He is a protector and a lover! I also loved Mara and her transformation as this story went on. The secondary characters are awesome! They were hysterical! A must read!!
This one was filled with Love & Loss, Secrets & Lies and Heartbreak & Hope….
The characters are broken, the story is emotional – it was easy to fall into a reading groove. Dean is a caring single dad with an amazing support system trying to move forward, Mara is simply broken but with subtle pushes she begins to move forward and piece her life back together. I loved the Jackie was such as amazing friend that didn’t give up and kept urging Mara on. The Amanda moments definitely balance this one, making it less heavy. This one drew you in and made you feel what Mara was going through, the good, bad and ugly.
