Maliki is the town’s hottest bar owner. He thinks Sierra, the mayor’s daughter, is troublesome. Their relationship starts as a game. She sneaks into his bar underage, and he kicks her out. Once she turns 21, they become friends but nothing more. Sierra’s world turns upside down, and Maliki offers her his guest bedroom. Becoming roommates is the riskiest game they have ever played. – The banter and sexual tension was great. Malaki was humorous, and Sierra was feisty. They are wonderful together. I loved the book until chapters 22-31. That book would have been better if that situation was different. Overall, this is a good read though.
“Just Roommates” (nook) was an enjoyable story. Sierra, even at eighteen (18), seemed immature. She did improve with age. So, we know Sierra’s age but I’m a bit confused on Maliki’s age.
I am leaning towards a rating of 3-1/2 stars. As I said, it was an enjoyable story.
This is my first book by this author and I loved it. I didn’t put it down once. From the very first page I was hooked. I also didn’t realise it was part of a series until I’d finished but it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. I didn’t feel like I’d missed out on anything by not reading the other books.
Sierra and Maliki have a complicated relationship. Starting when Sierra is caught sneaking into Malikis bar when she’s underage and spanning years, their relationship isn’t easy to describe (and to be honest it’s better to experience it yourself). Both these characters are unbelievably easy to like. Sierra is feisty and something about her drew me in immediately. She’s nothing like I was expecting. Maliki is perfect. I want a Maliki of my own.
This is a fantastic book that I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. I can’t wait to read more of this authors books.
Whoaaa!!!! First Date with this author and OMG…. it was a really good one !
From the begining I couldn’t put this book down. Author sucks me in compeletely in her world and for sure it was amazing journey. Just Roommates has really good story line, author knows exactly how to lead Her characters. I’m giving also big plus because all events happen without too much drama in the background. Of course, it’s not only “easy” book to read, there are some seriously good twists that made my heart stopped HOWEVER my I’ve survived. It was sexy and heartwarming story, and I’ve enjoyed it very much.
Maliki and Sierra… this couple melted my heart. They made me swoon, they made me laugh. From the first paiges their chemistry was amazing ! Sierra wants to steal Maliki’s heart – I loved to watch how He try to fight with Her games and His own feelings…. They’ve got some stuff going on around , that don’t let them to be together… BUT where love happens, nothing else matter.
In this or that way They will find way to each other.
Overall Grade:
“That’s Maliki’s thing—always wanting me to look at him, to keep that eye contact. He wants to read me—read my eyes, my heart, every emotion bleeding through me.”
Just Roommates is my first foray into Charity Ferrell’s world of the “just” heroes. It’s important for me to note that because this is the fifth book in this series of standalones. I came to this world without any prior knowledge of her Blue Beech inhabitants, and you’ll be happy to know that it didn’t affect the story in any way. Yes, there are people mentioned in the story who have other stories in this world, but Ferrell does a fine job of helping us understand the relationships between the characters. This is enough for reading Malaki and Sierra’s story.
At eighteen, Sierra, the mayor’s daughter, is attracted to the “town’s bartending heartbreaker,” Malaki. One night, when she is eighteen, she accompanies her best friend to the bar Malaki owns. Unfortunately, being underage, Malaki discovers her and forces her to leave his bar, after she puts up a bit of a fight. A couple of years later, Sierra once again shows up in Malaki’s bar, still underage. Like the first time, Malaki forces her out of his bar. On her twentiest-first birthday, Sierra goes to Malaki’s bar; this time, she is legal. Through these moments, a fraught friendship is formed.
When an unexpected event occurs in Sierra’s life a year or so later, Malaki allows Sierra to become his roommate, but their chemistry wreaks havoc on their friendship. Is Malaki attracted to Sierra like she is to him? Will he ever be someone who can settle down, or will he always be the “bartending heartbreaker?” Will circumstances outside of their relationship derail any future they might have together? These are the big questions of Charity Ferrell’s Just Roommates.
“I can read you like my favorite book, Sierra. I see you—the real you—and as much as you fight to hide every thought running through that pretty little head from me, I see it.”
Front and center to Ferrell’s book is Malaki and Sierra’s chemistry. It is clear from their first meeting in the book that sparks fly between the two of them. Even with Sierra being only an 18 year old, you cannot help but see a future for the two of them. Ferrell crafts their relationship in such a way that you can’t help but feel the tension between the two of them. When they finally act upon their feelings for each other, no one is surprised, and it makes it easy for them to fall in love quickly. It’s been developing on the page since almost the beginning of the book. As individual characters, there isn’t anything exceptional about Malaki and Sierra. To be honest, they are fairly flat characters, types of romantic heroes/heroines. It’s their coupling that makes them interesting. They are the reason the reader continues to read the story.
Charity Ferrell isn’t necessarily creating a new story with her book. Instead, she crafts plot “bumps” to compel her reader forward. Quite frankly, she throws quite a bit at Malaki and Sierra. When you finally feel that they are safe to live happily-ever-after, Ferrell twists the story, keeping her readers on their toes. It’s those twists along with their coupling that engages the reader until the end.
“She’s mine, and I’ll hand her every damn secret, every thought in my head, every move I make if it means keeping her.”
I imagine that, had I read the other “Just” books, I might have adored this story more. Without the background, Ferrell’s book is a nice read. It isn’t trying to do anything more than entertain you through the love of Malaki and Sierra. I would definitely recommend a read, especially if you’ve read Charity Ferrell’s other books in this series. Just Roommates will remind you of everything you love about Blue Beech.
Wow this story has A LOT going on. The beginning is funny with how ballsy and young (aka immature) Sierra is. I am not saying that as a negative thing. She is young and yes, a tad bit entitled.
Maliki is hilarious in the beginning of this book. He is older and definitely isn’t afraid to call Sierra on her behavior. I actually love how this is the beginning of their friendship.
Ok MAJOR miscommunication and unrequited love happens. Some REALLY CRAZY life choices also come into play. Yikes can you say messy?!
This is a full cast read with a wide assortment of friends and family intertwined. I feel some of them have had their own books but this is the first story I have read from this author, so I don’t know that for sure.
Overall, I like this book. Sometimes it took a little long to get to the point but it also is filled with intense moments of drama.
If you are looking for perfect characters that always make mature and good choices, well this isn’t the book for you. This couple takes us on a merry dance because they wouldn’t admit to their feelings. Yep keeps it interesting and realistic.
So Happy Reading Everybody!
Wow! This was a lot better than I expected. This is my first book by this author but it won’t be the last. I usually have a hard time concentrating on full length books and prefer shorter ones. But this just sucked me right in. From the beginning, I was hooked needing to find out what the deal was with Sierra and when Maliki was going to open up. There’s angst and it’s a slow burn but it burns so good. I loved it so much that I will be looking into if the other characters have their own story because I need more.
I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Who wouldn’t want to taunt a hot bartender. This is exactly what Sierra does with Maliki. At the age of 18 she sneaks into his bar and is caught red handed. Thus begins our game of cat and mouse.
Sierra continues to push Maliki’s limits by hanging out at his bar… but it’s when she is of legal age that the fun begins.
It seems to be a case of mutual attraction and lust but never the right opportunity… that is until they become roommates… just roommates.
I fell in love with Maliki immediately. Sierra took a bit of time. But together they made a delightful couple.
This book took me on a few twists… but it’s never easy when true love is involved.
Highly recommended
“You’re trouble, Jailbait—a pageant princess with a crooked crown and leather jacket.”
My first book by this author. I loved the writing style. So smooth.
I also loved the main characters and the story line was captivating. That twist in the second half of the book was everything! I’m looking forward to reading more by this author.
Whoop! Whoop! Look out, folks! Farrell has once again managed to steal my heart in the best way possible with this Read! It starts off sweet and funny and we fall head over heels for Maliki right along with Sierra! You can’t help but blush along with Sierra as she fumbled her way through her man crush! It’s delightful and makes you root for them. Life gets tough, feelings and truths will be brought to the surface and then in true Farrell fashion, bombs get dropped! This is a feel-good, heartfelt romance with two amazing characters! I more than loved it and devoured it in a few hours! This can be read as a stand-alone but I truly recommend you read the previous 4 stand-alone’s in this Blue Beach Series because they are all to die for! I’m so happy Maliki got his story and the troublemaker, Sierra got her drink! I’m hoping we get more on this awesome group of friends! I just live the characters and this hilarious and sexy world Farrell has created! I received an arc in exchange for an honest review
OMG I just LOVED LOVED LOVED this book… Malaki and Sierra were perfection.. I absolutely love this whole blue beech series.. and I love how the author uses the state of Iowa… I mean I have lived here almost all my life (35 of my 44 yrs) I wish this was a town here and I could visit this Down Home Pub.. (and if it is I have not heard of it or been there and I want to pay a visit!!) ANYWAY…. this book had me cracking up.. and then wanting to throw my kindle!! I swear every book I read by Charity becomes my new favorite! I read this story in less than a day, I seriously couldn’t put it down. You get a little bit of many favorite troupes within this book. The characters are two of my favorites I’ve read in a long time. Maliki is omg swoon worthy, Sierra while at first I will admit, didn’t much care for her she quickly prooved me wrong and I easily fell in love with her. I’m telling you, you will not be disappointed by this story!
Charity Ferrell never disappoints me! Omg, this book was truly amazing, I laughed out loud to many times. I couldn’t put the book down, it’s easy to read, sweet and steamy This is a must read!! I highly recommend this book and all other books by Charity Ferrell!
When Sierra turns twenty-one, the story really gets going….well, I couldn’t stop reading and needed to know how these two “friends” move forward and then another plot twist. These two rank right up there with characters who you can feel the love they have for each other. You see their relationship progress – it’s not that crappy instalove. The sexy scenes are freaking scorching and Maliki really was my picture-perfect man. I honestly didn’t want this book to end. I wanted to see where life took them. I’m hoping we get to see a glimpse of how things work out for them in additional books in this series. I highly recommend this book…it was well written, great storyline with a few twists thrown in, fantastic character and relationship development and the banter between these two was absolutely hysterical. Loved, loved, loved it!!
Just Roommates by Charity Ferrell worth every one of the five-stars I’m giving it. Charity Ferrell always brings it, but this one just brought it by the bag full, I am going to be in a major book hangover slump after this one. Jailbait, what are we to do with you, you really did surprise me, at first I thought, urrgghh little rich girl, daughter of the Mayor, not someone I am going to enjoy getting to know and I was disappointed (at first), as I always like the female leads in Charity’s story’s, but you I think, you made me fall in love with you a little more than I did Maliki. Malaki is sublime, he is flawed, and he is brave, but he doesn’t always think clearly and that’s just because he is human, and we can forgive him that. Do yourself a favour and if you haven’t picked up this story then please do, as you will miss it if you don’t.
Charity Ferrell is a new author to me and this was the first book of hers that I’ve read. I loved this book from start to finish and read it all in one go. Sometimes you come across a book that is the book you didn’t know you were looking for and this was the book I needed to get me out of my slump and have me addicted to reading again. But since picking up Roommates, I’ve only read other books by this author because I absolutely love her work and each book has a story that pulls you in and leaves wanting more by this very talented author. I don’t understand how her books don’t have more reviews because I’ve read 4 of her books so far and they’re all 5 star reads. Something about Roommates makes it my favourite though and part of me wishes I could discover it for the first time all over again so I can experience the pleasure of starting the first page and knowing I’ve found a true treasure. I don’t re-read many books, but Roommates is one that was immediately added to my re-read list and it’s one I also need to own in paperback. I can’t recommend this book enough and have already suggested this author to other readers. I’m so happy and grateful to have given this author a chance
Man, what an easy and fun read this turned out to be. My first read by this author and I’m impressed. Nothing was over the top or too much. The plot wasn’t some grand mystery, but I wouldn’t say it was predictable either. It felt real and true to life. The dual POV helped a lot in maintaining the focus of the story on their growth from friends to lovers. They were attracted from the start and the author made sure we felt that from the beginning. I’m quite impressed right now and can’t wait to find more titles to read by her! Easy 4.5 read for me!
