Hetta Coffey is a sassy Texan with a snazzy yacht, and she’s not afraid to use it!
She’s living aboard her forty-five foot boat in Mexico’s spectacular Sea of Cortez, taking work where she can get it and, characteristically, she isn’t all that concerned about any pesky legalities involved.
Docked at a pricey marina in La Paz, her cruising kitty is taking a hit, so when she’s offered a dream job, … dream job, she jumps on it. All she has to do is act as a courier, babysitting equipment and sensitive documentation for her former employer to their new offices in France.
Not only does she get to revisit a country she once lived in and loved, she’ll meet with her significant other, Jenks Jenkins, in Paris. Oh là là! An easy job and a romantic vacation, all paid for; what could possibly go wrong?
With Hetta? Just about everything.

Jetta and Jan are a modern day Lucy and Ethel. Trouble always seems to find them yet it seems they aren’t happy unless they are involved in something that they shouldn’t.
These books make you laugh. Hetta can’t seem to stay out of trouble. This is the latest in the series and was a free Amazon download from Bookbub.
If you haven’t read a Hetta Caffey mystery yet, what the heck are you waiting for? This best-selling series by Jinx Schwartz has been fascinating readers since 2011 when Just Add Water was published on Kindle. There we were introduced to Hetta and her dog and her friend Jan, and discovered, not only her instinctive detecting skills, but her penchant for getting into humorous scraps that even the Marx Brothers would have trouble unraveling. I was thinking of reviewing that book here (I have it on Kindle so it woudl be an authorized purchase), but I noted that it already has 804 reviews and I don’t want mine to get lost in the pack. So I decided I would write a few words about the eighth book in the series (my wife’s copy) because each book is as rollicking and compelling mystery as the first. So, here is Pardon My French, which I just finished last week. Now that I am on-line I see my review is behind 533 others who have already discovered the sassy Texan with the snazzy yacht in the Sea of Cortez. So, instead of duplicating what has gone before, let me just give you my best fellow-reader suggestion. Save yourself some on-line time and money and just buy the whole set of 8 books. It’s a ganga,as we say in Mexico, or a heck of a deal. It will keep you entertained on those cold winter nights, and in the warm beach days ahead. You owe it to yourself!
I like this series and have read most of them so far
Easy, fun read. Fairly recognizable French phrases, most were translated. Generally cleann anguage and without generalized male or female bashing. Minimal foul language( resulting in the 4stars) – cleaned up some for those of us who still think such is debasing to the user and hearer. No descriptions of sexual encounters, thank you dear author.
Good read over all.
Ust the right book to keep you entertained throughout.
A little too pat but still a good read.
Had sat on the end of the book in order to read. I have read the whole series.
All of Jinx’s “Hetta” books are good fun reads!!
This is my 7th!! Enjoyable!! Especially liked the setting in France and canal boating vacation!
Cute, easy to read book for something that’s light-hearted.
Love, love this series and the characters. Funny and entertaining. Have read all books in series and can’t wait for another to come out!!
The Hetta Coffee series has been one wonderful read after another. Now in France, Hetta and Jan, not to mention the lovable Po Thang, are out to rescue a woman from her own poor judgement. The Frenchman in question is showing too many signs of an abusing lover. Hetta and Jan come to the rescue, saving more than just a trusting woman’s bank account from bring stolen.
There are a few editing issues in the book, as always, but the story will keep you reading from cover to cover. I can’t wait for the next installment!
Fun read with lots of descriptive writing that lets you get a nice view of where she is…in this instance, France. I kept getting hungry when she described all the food though lol. Loved the characters, they seem fun and there’s some good sarcasm going, which I’m always fond of hahahahaha! I’ll be reading the other books in the series for sure.
Hetta Coffey travels to France to meet her boyfriend Jenks. Her friend Jan brings Hetta’s dog Po Thang to France and mayhem occurs.
I enjoy most things that Jinx Schwartz writes but this book is my favorite. She nailed it. Old and new characters, situations and current events. Part of it is laugh out loud and part of it grabs your heart. I loved it.
Fun read!
Such a quick easy read. Pure enjoyment. Characterizations great and you really liked the characters. (Awful to feel indifferent)
This was a different setting for Hetta Coffey, traveling across France on a riverboat. The characters are familiar even if the setting is unique, and I always enjoy the books in this series. Highly recommended!
I got my first Jinx Swartz book free from Bookbub. I am cheap and rarely buy books. After the first free one I bought all the rest in the Hedda series. The characters came to life for me and I could “see” the locations as Jinx moved the characters from place to place. I have never been to the area around the Baja peninsula but this series made me want to visit. Very well written and I highly recommend
This is the best of the Hetta Coffey series yet! Do yourself a favor and start reading this series TODAY. Great characters and oh so much fun to spend time with.
