From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel. The beginning of my sophomore year in college was off to a rough start. On the first day of orientation, I had an altercation with an infuriating British dude in a campus bathroom. (The ladies’ room was out of order. So, I used the men’s room. Don’t judge.)I got home later that night and realized that the foreign … realized that the foreign student we were expecting to rent a room in my parents’ house was allergic to our cat.
So, the spare room went to someone else: Caleb—the British guy from the men’s room.
And so it began…my love-hate story with Caleb Yates. Or was it hate-love in that order?
The guy knew how to push every one of my buttons.
Sometimes I’d email him to express my aggravation and disdain.
He’d actually rewrite my own words and send them back to me.
That was the type of infuriating person Caleb was.
So frustrating.
And…
Sometimes incredibly funny and endearingly sweet.
And hot.
He eventually grew on me, and Caleb soon became one of my best friends that year.
Too bad he was headed back to England soon, so nothing could happen between us—for so many reasons.
I definitely couldn’t fall in love with him, especially since all we had was just one year.

I just want to say that this is one of my favorite covers and after reading the book it was so perfect!! Penelope Ward just continues to put out the most incredible stories. For as many books that she has published each and every story is unique with the best characters!! Just One Year is a standalone told from both points of view.
Teagan and Caleb’s meet cute was just that and it was beyond cute!! Teagan had to use the rest room and the ladies was closed, so she snuck into the men’s room the smelly men room!! She runs into Caleb and tries to defend herself with the smell. Dang funny stuff!!
Caleb ends up being a foreign exchange student that will be staying in Teagan’s house for one year. He fits right into the household, gets along with her Dad, Stepmom, and little sister. For her own reasons Teagan has distanced herself from her family. Having Caleb in the house has changed the dynamic and opened her eyes to see things differently.
Teagan and Caleb’s story is a slow burn romance but I love that their friendship is formed before it even became obvious that they had feelings for each other. The spark between Keaton and Caleb comes out in different forms, Caleb knows how to push her buttons, the sarcasm and banter are overflowing. And she is brutally honest on everything especially her feelings. Each has their very own reasons for the way they are with their families. It was like they were put in the same place at the same time so that they could each heal the other. So many different levels to this story and with Penelope’s’ incredible storytelling it flows beautifully. We are gifted an amazing epilogue that made me feel all the happy feels!!
I haven’t read a college romance in a while cuz I’m not really into it much anymore but Just One Year is written by one of my favorite author so I can’t pass it up.
Teagan & Caleb’s love story was a beautiful one. They both have pasts that they must learn to overcome and find their way to each other. There are also a few twists and turns that they both have to navigate but in the end their love wins. Also, I have to say that I not just love Teagan and Caleb but all the other characters in this book were great too.
What a sweet heartwarming read. Once again Penelope Ward has taken us on a journey of two unexpecting people falling for each other. She always tends to take a typical situation and runs with it and making us fall hard for her characters. This time around we have the exchange student, Caleb Yates who is renting a room at Teagan Carroll’s family home.
How Caleb and Teagan met will have you feeling embarrassed while LOL. How they started off their relationship will have you surprised at the boldness of Caleb and the infuriating feelings from Teagan. Over time the two become more comfortable around each other and walls are coming down which in turn where feelings begin to develop. However, there is an end date to their budding friendship when Caleb has to head back home after his school program ends.
I enjoyed the growing relationship between two people who have personal issues that they have a challenging time getting past. There was a moment or two that had my heart breaking into pieces and understanding why the characters are they way they are. This was not just another college romance and was so much more.
Caleb and Teagan amazing story, he is an exchange student, she is a recluse, they meet, but not everything goes like you will think, a refreshing story with little angst and beautiful characters. I think this is kind of different from Penelope Ward, in a good way, all the fun and story plot is there and you will enjoy it very much.
This is a romance that will tap into all your emotions and it’s a story that will captivate you and leave you wanting more. I laughed, I swooned and I fell for Teagan and Caleb big time.
What happens when a man you meet in a men’s bathroom when you are caught short turns into your roommate for the new school year ….. well this couple may share an instant attraction and sizzling chemistry but they also become friends and from friends they become lovers.
This book ticked all my boxes , I laughed at the banter, I swooned and I sighed as this couple got to know each other. This is a beautifully written love story that touched me on so many levels and I really didn’t want it to end. The friendship was fun but the love was intense and I highly recommend Just One Year to all romance lovers so please one click this beauty it won’t disappoint.
Caleb came to USA from England for one year of college, he was staying with the Carrol family. Teagan and Caleb met and he liked to tease her, she was pretty cranky, and they started to become friends. Friends than turned into lovers with a time limit. Can they be together? Great characters and storyline. Highly recommended.
Caleb is an exchange student from England. Little did he know this one year abroad in the United States would change his entire future.
Teagan’s stepmom and dad loved to offer their big home to students. Their proximity to the University made it ideal. But as far as Teagan was concerned, this was just an invasion into the privacy of her home. What starts as an adversarial relationship soon evolves into a friendship. Like to halves of a whole, they are attracted to each other, sharing their pasts and the obstacles they face.
This is an emotional and angst-sy story. It is a journey from young adult to maturity with some surprises in between.
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
Just One Year is a sweet story with a deliciously slow burn.
When Teagan initially meets Caleb in the men’s bathroom, of all places, it’s awkward and uncomfortable. Luckily, she knows she won’t be seeing him again. That is, until she realizes that Caleb is the new exchange student who will be staying at her parents’ house for the remainder of the school year. At first, all they seem to do is push each other’s buttons, but as time goes on, Teagan and Caleb develop a beautiful friendship. Both begin to feel that their relationship could be something more, but with Caleb set to return to England, is exploring their connection worth it?
Penelope Ward has created an intimate story that relies heavily on her two protagonists, and it totally works. It’s a stripped down narrative arc that focuses on the intricacies of human relationships and the processing of trauma, and I’m completely here for it. I loved that it wasn’t overly sad just to be sad, or dramatic just to be dramatic. Ward hits a beautiful balance between the escapism that I typically seek when reading this genre, and with sharing a beautiful love story between two thoroughly human characters.
Add this to your TBR list now. You won’t regret it!
At the beginning of this book I was already in love with Caleb & Teagan. The way they met was just hilarious and really set the tone for the book. Teagan figures she can survive this humiliation until she realizes that the gorgeous guy from England will be staying at her house for a year as their next exchange student. What started as bickering turns into a really close friendship and as much as they both fight it their attraction to each other is undeniable. Caleb vowed to not have any attachments because his life is back in London and he is here for just one year and the last person he wants to hurt is Teagan. Teagan knows what is waiting at the end for her and Caleb but she can’t deny herself what she is feeling. Heartbreak certainly has to be worth it right?!?
This book is funny, emotional, brings on the tears and the best kind of love story that we can expect from Penelope Ward!!! Definitely will easily be your next 1 click!
Hmm..I’m not sure I’m 100% sold on this one.
Long, angsty slow burn.. the beginning was good..the ending..not so much.
I think this one boils down to personal preference.
Overall, I enjoyed the heartwarming story of Caleb and Teagan.
Another awesome story by Penelope. Couldn’t put it down. I loved the angst and emotional component of this book so much. I’m so happy Penelope decided to do NA and I hope she’ll write more in the future. You will not be disappointed with this book. Cant wait for the next one.
A laugh out loud, sweet, swooning and feel good story! Penelope Ward is at her best yet again! I love the way she makes you feel the ups and downs with her characters. It’s always such a happy feeling when you finish one of her books. I can’t tell you how many times I laughed out loud while reading! Absolutely loved it!
I do love a great YA love story, and with Just One Year Penelope Ward didn’t disappoint.
Reading you could feel the spark between Keaton and Caleb from the moment they meet. And as the story develops their connection gets even deeper. This story was angsty and emotional, heartfelt and hot as hell! And with all the banter between those two you couldn’t not fall in love with them.
A fun and entertaining love story. With Just One Year Penelope Ward created a perfect story of love, lust, family and so much more. Definitely another extraordinary book by this great author.
Omg!! Penelope has done it again! I absolutely love her books and she definitely doesn’t disappoint with this one!! Enemies to lovers or love-hate is one of my favorite tropes so I was so excited for this one!! The way it started with the incident in the bathroom was so freakin funny and then Teagan gets home and realizes Caleb is now the exchange student living with them instead of Bo Cheng. Let the hate begin lol. I loved watching the build up between Teagan and Caleb as they slowly went from hate to friends to love! And I so didn’t look forward to the day that Caleb has to go back to England. Oh, I didn’t mention that Caleb was English- Omg!! That made him even hotter!! (& did you see the cover?! )
I absolutely loved this book! It had a little bit of everything- humor, sadness, sweetness and oh so much sexiness! I absolutely loved it down to the last PS! 5+ stars for me!!
Title: Just One Year
Author: Penelope Ward
Series: Stand-alone
Rating: 6 stars
Woweee! This story absolutely blew me away! It honestly had every single thing I look for in a romance novel.
A hot as hell British hero
Strong and likable heroine
A storyline that keeps you engaged
Ms. Ward never ceases to surprise me with her writing capabilities. Every single story she writes is packed full of emotions and Just One Year was no different. I flippin’ loved the characters too! I completely adored Caleb! He was broken but so charming. And Teagan…she literally stole my heart from the very beginning. Ms. Ward weaves a tale that not only captures your heart but makes you wish it would never end. Highly recommend reading this book!
Epic Slow Burn worth every word on the pages. That end in an epic love story. Penelope got this out of the park and has me craving s’mores and English men!
“Just One Year” is a slow burn type of romance between two young college students that just so happen to meet in the loo, gotta love that intro. Caleb is an exchange student from across the pond and I loved his British accent. He is handsome, hot, lovable and wise beyond his years, and really needs a break from his family life back home. Teagan is a quiet, smart, stay to herself kind of girl that enjoys going to the movies by herself and living in the basement of her families home. Both Caleb and Teagan have had things happen in their lives that changed them and made them into the people they are, but maybe together they can overcome all of this.
I highly recommend this book to all romance lovers, get ready to laugh out loud, shed a few tears and fall in love with the hot British guy!!
One year and so much love!
I’m still starry eyed, heart shaped glasses, dripping with love swooning. So I guess I beed to pre-apologize for the loved up stuff coming out of my mouth (read typing).
Just One Year is not enough. Every hopeless romantic will tell you they need forever. Penelope Ward knows that too because its not JUST anything. (Also its a bit longer than a year! )
Sigh. Swoon. Repeat. Just One Year has all you need to make your day, restore your faith, and make you fall in love. It gives you a guy to crush on, becomes besties with, and then fall hard for. In Just One Year, you will experience a full life of emotions, feelings, and – don’t shake your head, I’m dramatic after a Happily Ever After, get over it!
With an ending that seems only fit for fairytales, Penelope Ward has created a couple that is #goals. She has also given hope and pleasant dreams to all those that need it. For those of us that live their happily ever after, its wonderful to experience it all over again and yet new everytime.
I absolutely love this story! It’s a nice, slow, sizzling burn love story. Teagen is stays mostly to herself, super smart, and beautiful. Teagan met Caleb under a sticky situation so when Teagan found out that Caleb will be staying with her family for a year she was embarrassed! Caleb is British, nice, and handsome.
I’m not gonna to spoiled the book for anyone!!!
Penelope has done it again! She will sucked you up in her world with this story. The characters expressed so much of themselves that you feel all the emotions and feelings. Her writing is always perfection and flows throughout the book.
Great freaking work Again Penelope Ward!
I really enjoyed reading this book and I just loved Caleb & Teagan together! It was a fun, sweet but also emotional story where you just can’t help but fall in love with both characters. So many things you discover throughout the story made it even more emotional. Definitely a must read and already a favorite for me this year!
Teagan’s first year at college isn’t beginning very well and when a new international student comes to live with her family, they really don’t get off on the right foot. But nothing is what it seems and the more they get to know each other, the closer they seem to get. They both carry burdens from the past and maybe that’s something that makes their bond grow stronger but Caleb is only staying a year and is returning home when his time’s up. There are so many reasons why their relationship can’t be more than friendship but sometimes you just can’t help who you fall in love with. Will they stand the test of time or will it all end when he’s gone?…
