Stand-alone Crossroads romance, complete with HEA–and plenty of heat and heart along the way!Bailey Rossum was living out a bad country song. After being stood up and having her pickup truck break down, Bailey found herself walking barefoot in a ball gown down a back road. And when her sexier-than-sin ex rides up on his steel horse Bon Jovi style to rescue her, she knows she has to accept his … she knows she has to accept his help even if it means breaking her heart all over again.
Josh Scott had no interest in being anyone’s hero.
After finding the only woman he’d ever loved stranded on the side of the road, Josh knew that he had to do the right thing. And when his headlight shone on long silky, blonde hair, huge doe eyes, and the most perfect set of lips ever created he knew his already shattered heart was in serious trouble.
To live in the present, Josh and Bailey have to face their past. If they do they just might have a future…and it all starts with just one night.

Second chances romance + Melanie Shawn? You can’t go wrong!
Melanie Shawn books ALWAYS make me smile and swoon 🙂 highly recommend it!
I didn’t guess all of what she was hiding in her past. Unexpected.
The plot is a bit far-fetched, but overall a very good read.
Lots of words to create a good story of love lost, then found again. Enjoyed Bailey and Josh’s story.
18 years later. Wow! Have to wonder how often this has happened in real life. Somehow I suspect the coincident with Noah doesn’t resolve things, but Angie was on the way to blowing the lid.
A good read but predictable for the most part.
“Just One Night” (nook) was a captivating story of love, love lost and, love reclaimed. The length of time between finding young love and reclaiming that love was heart wrenching but oh so rewarding.
Another Great
Bailey had left town years ago and became a Pediatric Surgeon because of a doctor that touched her life 18 years prior. She always knew she wanted to be a doctor, now she’s home in Hope’s Crossing. Josh loved his hometown and took over his uncle’s auto repair shop, but he hadn’t found his heart again after Bailey left. She’s been back 6 years and he’s ignored her the whole time until he came to get rescue.
This is the story of Josh and Bailey, who were each other’s everything, until Bailey left town and refused to talk to Josh, eventually telling him that “he was just a distraction and I never really loved you.” Now, almost two decades later, Bailey has been back in her hometown for almost six years but has never once spoken to Josh. She is keeping a secret that she worries she won’t be able to keep to herself if she got close to Josh again.
After a particularly stressful day at work (Bailey is a pediatric cardiac surgeon), Bailey decides to take her grandfather’s old truck out for a drive in the hopes of making her feel better. But the old truck, called Buford, breaks down at the side of the road and Bailey has no choice but to walk. Josh is driving down the road when he sees a woman in a long gown carrying her shoes, he feels he has no choice but to stop and help. It’s how he was raised and he couldn’t just drive on by. When he discovers it’s Bailey, he wants to drive on past, but he stops to help her.
Can Bailey and Josh move beyond their past and admit that they have only ever loved each other. Well written, this story flows at a steady pace but doesn’t feel rushed. Thoroughly recommend.
To say the novel is heart-wrenching and emotional is just scraping the surface. The feels go deep, the angst is intense, and the tears were multiple, both from sorrow and pain as well as from joy and jubilee. To say I sobbed through the book is an exaggeration but not by much.
Bailey Rossum and Josh Scott hadn’t had the easiest start in life, but they had had each other. In the most amazing, finding your soulmate kind of way that will blow you away and steep deeply into your heart. Until they didn’t. Until things went wrong in the worst moment in the worst kind of way. And even though they both had managed to succeed in their lives, to be successful in their careers, it might have been, cause all their energy and efforts were focused on the task at hand to avoid the feelings churning in their souls and core beings.
The energy, connection, chemistry between Bailey and Josh is something amazing and tangible and adorable all at the same time. The attraction they have for each other is a palpable force, and they are helpless to avoid it now that the connection between them is established again. And the love scenes these two create, are off the chart smoking hot.
The challenge they face is the secrets from their past. Can they overcome everything they left behind and is there enough room in their hearts and minds for the understanding and forgiveness needed to move forward? I loved the road, the struggle they faced but mostly how the handled it. I loved both Josh and Bailey, how they saw each other and how honest they were with each other.
The half spoon dropped – from my opinion – cause there was some third person drama involved that continued after the first love scene between Josh and Bailey. Was it physical, not really – a kiss – but it bothered me as it was first mentioned, it bothered me when it continued, and then when it was ignored after all the turbulence started in the hospital, I wondered why, oh why was it mentioned in the first place. I know, this is me and my silly hard limits, but this is my opinion so…
The chaos created by unraveling secrets and the mayhem it caused in the protagonists’ lives took me for an emotional road with angst and passionate adoration as the main vehicles riding down the curvy path… A journey that I am thankful I was able to experience, not only because of the lovely visit with my friends in Harper’s Crossing but because of both Josh and Bailey deserved to find peace, redemption, and most of all, love into their lives.
~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
Just one night is such a great read. Talk about second chances. I loved the dynamic between Josh and Bailey. They had to go through the struggles of life to find their new normal. The story telling is awesome and the characters are well thought out. I loved how characters from previous books in the series show up. Awesome 5 star read!
A new favorite! I was so sad when this ended but it ended well and was believable. Lots of plot twists but well done
Just One Night: I loved this second chance story. This was one of those stories that stuck with you long after you finished the book. Very emotional and you definitely feel Bailey and Josh’s pain and heartbreak.
Amazing love story of two people who find their way back to each other and reunite with a child Josh didn’t know he had and Bailey’s need to do what was right for her. Grab the tissue.
Time to grow up!
Josh and Bailey were children when Bailey was pregnant and went off to college. Josh assumed she had aborted the child, but Bailey carried her baby to term and gave her daughter up for adoption. Then she finished college and became a paediatric surgeon. But she had to cut off all ties to Josh because she couldn’t face him after giving up her daughter. Josh eventually became a successful businessman running the local auto shop. Even though the two have been in the same town for 6 years, they’ve avoided each other so as to keep their wounds to themselves. Then one night (20 years after they separated), Josh finds Bailey walking barefoot along the road after her truck dies. And their relationship very slowly begins to be healed.
This is an emotional read with past guilt and hurts that take time, understanding, forgiveness and communication to heal. It’s a “keep tissues handy!” Kind of read, but one that makes you feel good after it’s over.
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely.
I love Melanie Shawn series. I have loved all of them that I have read, but this one was one of the better ones, and they’ve all been good. I was riveted to this storyline, and Bailey’s eighteen years old secret, literally had my mouth hanging open. And such a satisfying HEA! I loved it!
Another great story by Melanie Shawn. Yes, it’s part of the Crossroads series, but you can read this as a stand alone. This one is a second chance at love with a twist. I loved the twist in this one. Therefore, I won’t get any deeper with my review. I want you to be surprised too. Great characters who don’t assume, but make adult decisions (for the most part). Dual point of view. No cliffhanger.
Review Josh and Bailey’s story was another great one in the series. When you read this book you will need the lots of Kleenex as you will be crying both happy and sad tears at times. Josh and Bailey were high school sweethearts but Bailey left for college and told Josh to move on. Little did anybody know she had a big secret she carried with her to college. Fast forward a few years and she is stranded on the side of the road and the one person to come a long and rescue her is Josh. Even though Bailey told Josh to move on neither one ever did. Will they get their chance at a second romance?
Josh and Bailey were madly in love with each other, but then Bailey left breaking her and Josh’s heart in the process. That was 18 years back and though Bailey has been back in Harpers Crossing for the past 6 years, Josh has managed to avoid her.
Till one night when he finds her car breaks down, and Josh come upon her walking in a gown on the way to the annual hospital fundraiser. A lift to the event ends up in him being her date for the night.
Will this be second chance that might just bring these two people in love with each other together once again ?
Just one night is a beautiful story about heartbreak, second chances and a forever love. It is deep and emotional that will tug at your heartstrings and even make you teary eyed at times. I thought I had read all possible variations of second chance romance, but the authors have truly surprised me with this one.
I would happily recommend this book to all.
WOW!!! Oh WOW!! Josh and Bailey’s story in Just One Night was definitely lucky thirteen in the Crossroads series by the amazing duo of Melanie Shawn. Pediatric surgeon Bailey Rossum returned to Harper’s Crossing six years ago. Since being avoided and snubbed by Josh Scott, her high school love, there was no opportunity to talk to him and explain why she cut ties with him eighteen years ago. Now it was the night of big fund raiser for the hospital and Bailey found herself walking barefoot in a ball gown after being stood up and having her pickup truck break down. It was as if her life had turned into a bad country song. As luck would have it, coming to her rescue was Josh, looking sexier than ever, riding his motorcycle. Bailey knew she needed to accept his help, even if it could lead to him breaking her heart, once again. Josh knew the right thing to do was to give Bailey a lift, even if helping her would cause additional harm to his already shattered heart.
These two were amazing and perfect for each other; they fit together. They had off the charts chemistry and before these two can have the present and future, Josh and Bailey must face and confront their past. Before coming clean to Josh, Bailey’s secret unknowingly appears in Harper’s Crossing. After all these years, Josh and Bailey still love one another and hopefully they can get over the past and aim for a future together.
Melanie Shawn wrote a wonderfully emotional and moving story filled with sexual chemistry, fun dialogue, and endearing characters that is not to be missed. I highly recommend this book to other readers and am looking forward to reading the next story in the Crossroads series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
