“Just One Kiss is my favorite story in the series so far. Barbara Freethy has once again shown that she is an amazing storyteller. I could not put it down. I loved every page. Just One Kiss is a second chance at first love story and is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments.” Patti – Goodreads
Hannah Stark takes care of everyone else, from the patients she nurses back to health, to … nurses back to health, to her family, who can never seem to get it together. She’d love to find someone she can trust, someone she can lean on, someone she can love, but that someone will not be Jake McKenna. The ruggedly attractive owner of Adventure Sports might still make her palms sweat, but Jake broke her teenage heart years ago.
In the twelve plus years since they were a couple, Jake has given up on forgiveness from Hannah. He’d really like the chance to set the record straight, but that would mean revealing secrets he has sworn to protect. So, they dance around each other, never getting close enough to the lingering sparks to start another fire.
A stormy Christmas eve at the lake changes everything. A woman in trouble and a death-defying rescue gives them a chance to start over as they are now—if they can find the courage to trust each other. Will these two enemies turn into lovers, or will they reject the fate that has once again thrown them together?

This book has all the “feels” of a good holiday read, with family, romance and even a Christmas miracle.
JUST ONE KISS is another fantastic novel by Barbara Freethy. The story jumps off the page with a small-town mystery and a second-chance at first love. Hannah and Jake will stay with you long after you’ve put the book down.
Kicking off my holiday reading binge with a new one from one of my favorite authors! Loved this second chance romance set in Whisper Lake!
A fabulous second chance love story. Hannah and Jake had a bad break-up ten years ago, but a chance encounter during the holiday season leads them down an unexpected path that includes some family secrets. A different kind of Christmas romance, but I loved it.

Once I started reading, I didn’t want to put the book down. It broke my heart that Hannah and Jake were so in love in high school, and something happened where Jake broke Hannah’s heart. Unfortunately Hannah’s father had died in a car crash when she was 14 and this broke her family up. It was sad that her mother blamed everything on Hannah’s older sister Kelly. Kelly and her mom fought and Kelly left and they haven’t heard from her in 15 years. Hannah’s mother drank, and Hannah ended up raising her younger brother Tyler. Hannah and Tyler went through more than children should go through.
Hannah is older and an emergency room nurse. Now Hannah and Jake are back in their small town. I felt bad that Hannah could not forgive Jake and would manage to go the other way when she saw him. Something terrible happens that brings the two back together with a truce. Jake does all he can to show Hannah she can trust him now. There are secrets to get through, dangerous people, and forgiveness. There are some exciting moments that kept me reading so I could see what was going to happen. It’s a great book that I strongly encourage you to read. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
What a great small-town second chance romance from Barbara Freethy! Hannah and Jake had a bad breakup filled with betrayal and heartache in high school. Ten years later, they’re back in the town where they grew up. When her car breaks down on a snowy mountain road, Jake comes to her rescue, much to her dismay. This chance encounter leads them into a romantic and suspense-filled story encompassing family secrets, mystery, some danger, and even a Christmas miracle.
I just love whisper lake! With each story I fall in love even more. The descriptions are so vivid that I feel that I am actually there and the characters so relatable and friendly that I would love to meet them! This is Hannah & Jakes story and it’s heartbreaking as well as heartwarming. It had me gasping, it had me shed more then a few tears but most of all it made me feel like home! A great second chance story for more then one of them and it’s a great addition to this series.
Really enjoyed this fourth book in the Wishful series. Just One Kiss is a story about forgiveness and second chances. I definitely recommend this book .
Hannah and Jake have known each other since they were young and dated during high school. Hannah thought they had a forever relationship until Jake cheated on her. As soon as he could leave town he did and she also went away to school. Now they’re both back in town working. They have many of the same friends, but Hannah has done her best to avoid him. Until one night when she is going to her family’s rental cabin to take care of something and has a flat and Jake comes upon her as he’s going to check on an employee who’s having a rough time. He stays with her and together they find something that surprises them both and sets a real mystery in motion. As they work together to find information and solve the mystery they are drawn to each other. Jake is determined to win her back and at the same time she finds he’s not the same guy that he was way back when. They learn some things about each other that they weren’t aware of and they both help the other put family relationships back together. With this story we get a second chance at a HEA and a mystery that keeps us turning pages and guessing. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I was a bit disappointed in this book, just because I totally loved another book in this series – Whisper Lake – that I read previously. Don’t get me wrong. I did enjoy this book and there were parts that kept me on the edge of my seat. I liked all the characters and felt that the author did a good job of rounding out their personalities. I enjoy the people of Whisper Lake and wish I had a group of friends like them.
It just seemed like there was a lot of repetition and places in the story that I had to work hard to get through. Because of that, it was hard for me to make reading this book a priority and I was glad to finally finish it. All of that being said, I do plan to read more books in this series and hope the next one measures up to a five star review.
All I can say is Barbara Freethy is incredible. All her books are incredible, but this one really pulled me in. Jake and Hannah were best friends turned lovers when they were 17. Jake does the unthinkable and breaks Hannah’s heart. He leaves town and pursues many adventures. After 10 years he comes back trying to see if Hannah will forgive him and give him a second chance. So many different secrets and heartache between so many people. I loved how this story pulled back so many layers and you were holding your breath wondering how it would resolve itself. Loved reading about the power of forgiveness on so many levels, and I highly recommend.
What a joy to read! A trip to Whisper Lake is always a pleasure. The story of Hannah and Jake is a wonderful story with romance, mystery, and stories of forgiveness. When you add in Christmastime and kids, it’s extra special! Barbara has put together a great group of characters in Whisper Lake that I enjoy reading about. This book is a terrific feel-good story and a perfect get-away from the stresses of daily life. Just One Kiss is another great addition to the series. I hope this series has many more books to come!
Just One Kiss by Barbara Freethy is the 4th book in her Whisper Lake Series. Even though this is the 4th book in this series it can very well be read as a stand-alone. Ms. Freethy has written a wonderful story which drew me right in, making me forget everything else and did not let me go until I turned the last page. I did not want to put this book down once I started it, I read well past my bedtime and was engaged throughout. I loved how the author described everything so vividly I was able to visualize and feel everything that was going on. This is very well written has well developed and likable characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. I felt like I was right there with the characters. This is a very emotional and enjoyable story full of second chances, love, friendship and wonderful characters. I laughed I cried and I felt all the emotions of this book. Just One Kiss is one of those books you read and savor. I can’t wait for the next book in the Whisper Lake Series to come out.
Another installment in the Whisper Lake series. I admit, I had a small problem getting into the storyline, there was much drama and angst that I put the book down several times before finally picking it up and digging in. Actually enjoyed it, once I gave it a chance. It is all here, the above referenced drama, angst, romance and steam. There is also a bad guy who rounds out the story with a side of action and crazy. Grab this one. It is worth adding to your TBR list.
I loved this wonderful addition to the Whisper Lake series. A romantic Christmas love story between Hannah and Jake. It’s a story you’ll love. I recommend you read the entire series (It was one of my favorites). They are great!!!
“Just One Kiss” is another wonderful book in the Whisper Lake series. Jake and Hanna’s story is heartwarming and suspenseful exactly what I like and expect from Barbara books.
Hannah & Jake were high school sweethearts until Jake made a mistake that broke them up. Years have passed but Hannah has been unable, or unwilling, to forgive Jake for his transgressions. She had a terrible childhood after her father died. There was no one else to rely on but herself. Her mother dealt with her grief by becoming an alcoholic & her sister ran away feeling guilty over her part in her father’s accident. Hannah ended up taking on the responsibility for herself & her younger brother.
Jake knew he screwed up. He broke Hannah’s heart but he didn’t think she’d hold a grudge this long. He really felt she’d forgive him by now. His feelings for her haven’t changed but he can’t find a way past her barriers. When she suddenly needs help, he has a way to spend time with her. Can he get her to open up?
I really enjoyed the touch of mystery in with the romance. It gave Jake a great way to get involved & it lowered Hannah’s defenses. Hannah’s desire for a family came through along with her reluctance to trust anyone again. Jake needed to make peace with his father & his mistakes before he could move forward. This was another wonderful story to read & a great addition to the series.
Barbara Freethy is a master storyteller. She creates the most believable characters and the story flows so easily. This is the fourth book in the Whisper Lake series and it is about Hannah, a nurse, and Jake, and outdoor sports adventure guide. They have a history, and he broke her heart. She comes from a family with lots of trouble in the past. Jake moves back to Whisper Lake to be near family and try to win Hannah back. Their story involves some intrigue, which is my favorite type of story, and lots of family issues. It’s a great second chance story, and all the characters are great. I love this whole series!!!
Barbara Freethy has done it again! I really enjoyed revisiting the small town of Whisper Lake. This series just keeps getting better with every book. Jake and Hannah’s story drew me in from the first chapter. I couldn’t put it down. I was torn between wanting to find out how issues were resolved and not wanting this visit to Whisper Lake to end.
I love Whisper Lake. The fourth book in this series by Barbara Freethy is a bit different than the others. Not only is there a second chance romance, there is also a mystery. It’s just delicious.
Hannah and Jake had been high school sweethearts until Jake betrayed Hannah’s trust. They’ve been enemies since. A flat tire in the snow, a child left alone, and a missing sibling, has Hannah leaning on Jake for the first time in just about forever. The animosity she felt toward him is slowing being replaced by tender feelings as he continually is there when she needs him.
Can they work out their problems and forgive each other? Will Hannah’s missing sister be found safe? Can Jake finally confront his past and make Hannah believe? Will a young child get his Christmas wish? Such a great addition to the Whisper Lake series.
