Check-check.“Oh, I’m sorry. Did you say you were happy? LOLOLOLOL!” ~ LifeEmber Hastings never thought she’d be dragged away from White Timber and everything she loved, thrust in the middle of a big city she … middle of a big city she hated, or have her husband of nine years say, “I can’t do this anymore,” all within the span of three months, yet here she is.

He’s never met a woman who says whatever she’s thinking and doesn’t fawn all over him when she finds out what he does for a living. Until Ember Hastings comes barreling into his life, calling him Sht Mouth and asking if he has any balls.
But she wants to keep this professional. She made him pinky swear, and you don’t mess around with pinky swears. Baker will have to get creative if he wants to prove to Ember that he’s just her type.

Just My Type is a super cute rom com that you will not want to put down. I giggled and snorted with the banter of Baker and Ember. You add in Ember’s son Lincoln and you will have tears in your eyes from laughing so hard. Ember is sweet single mom who is doing what she can since her husband left. Baker is swoon worthy and is just the best. I love how he is with Lincoln. I really couldn’t get enough of this one. You need to meet Baker and Ember now.
This book is just what I needed in this read. It was so fun and silly to read. I am a sucker for the single parent story where the new partner loves the kid as much or more.
Ember has lost herself over the years pretending to be what was expected. When she finds herself in a new city and starting her life over, it is a struggle. Slowly we see the old Ember come to back to life.
Baker is rebuilding his life after the military and helping other veterans find their way back as well. As rewarding as that is, he is still missing the spark. When he meets this firefly who tells him exactly what she thinks. She unknowingly digs her claws in deep.
Can the right person change all you thought or knew to be your plan? Can Ember find love in the city?
Great Rom Com read. Check it out.

Just My Type by Tara Sivec
Published: April 26, 2019
Tara Sivec
I purchased this book on Amazon.
Tara Sivec is a USA Today best-selling author, wife, mother, chauffeur, maid, short-order cook, baby-sitter, and sarcasm expert. She lives in Ohio with her husband and two children and looks forward to the day when all three of them become adults and move out.
“You can finally go home.”
Ember left her simple life on her family farm for Chicago’s chaotic loudness when her husband got promoted. When the husband drops the “I can’t do this anymore” on her back, Ember finds herself trapped in a city she hates feeling more alone than ever until she gets an assignment for work that changes everything. Suddenly the noise and fast-moving city doesn’t seem so bad.
The emotion packed into this comical nugget is intense. There are so many genuine, raw emotions that Ember experiences living in a place far from home. Her feelings of loneliness and isolation and absolute fear in how she will take care of her son and keep a roof over their heads are very honest and genuine.
The emotions that Barker feels about not wanting to be fawned over for being a Vet or running a gym just for Vets are beautiful. This character is beautiful from the inside out.
The most magical part of this book is that we, the reader, fall in love with Ember and Barker as they fall in love on the pages in front of us. Their love story is so lovely, sweet, sassy, and natural.
Damn you, Sivec.
I knew I was going to love Ember from her first words in The Simple Life – book #1. She is Brooklyn’s best friend after all, so they are very similar in their sassiness, and also Clint’s sister, which makes for great reading. My heart ached for her, because to find her HEA she has to go through so much. But you will have to agree with me once you’re finished reading this one, that it was well worth it to end up with Baker. He is pretty much perfect in every way. From being a war hero but not obnoxious about it, opening his gym for wounded vets, taking things slow with Ember because she wasn’t in the right head space for dating. He took her on some amazing dates, even if she didn’t know they were dates, and he treasured her son as much as she did. The banter was superb whether in their emails and texts or in person. This is an amusing romcom with adorable critters and wonderful characters.
This. Book. Is. Hilarious!!!! I’m serious, if you are in a funk, sad, lonely, or just appreciate a good laugh this is the book you need to get! I laughed so much during this book I think my family thought I’d lost my mind. My husband particularly enjoyed me continually waking him up with my laughter while he was sleeping and I was reading in bed.
Ember was happy living in her small hometown working on her family farm and raising her son with her husband. Then her husband decided he wanted to take a big job opportunity and moved them to Chicago. Shortly after her husband wants out of the marriage. Ember is forced to find a job and try to move forward as a single mom the best she can.
She takes a transcriptionist job she never imagining it could change her life. When her inappropriate notes actually get sent to her client Baker, the comical emails they start sending to each other are the best thing ever! The banter that flows between these two will make you laugh one moment and swoon the next. I can’t get enough of this couple.
In a stressful world we all need a good laugh. This book will brighten your world. I will be saving this book to read again when I need a pick me up. I wish I could read it for the first time all over again, I loved it that much!!!
This book was straight up hilarious. Ember and Baker were just perfect together. There email conversations were so funny and let’s not forget Embers conversations with her bestie Brooklyn. Definite must read.
This book was just as hilariously funny like the last book in the series. Tara Sivec’s witty humor doesn’t get old and this was a great rom-com.
The narration was spot on and I loved the little bit dual narration. James Cavenaugh and CJ Bloom were perfect for Baker and Ember and brought life to the characters.
This was an amazingly funny, sexy and swoony romantic read. A perfect Sivec rom-com that was just my type.
Loved this story that had me lol-ing so much!! Ember and Baker are fantastic characters and so is Lincoln. The narration is awesome and felt perfect for the characters. And OMG that hedgehog!
!
Sometimes, I can feel in my guts when a book is really good. It was like a bullseye. I laughed in every single chapter. At some point I felt a silly smile drawed in my face. I couldn’t helped. This story should be seriously considered to be a movie. It is that good! So Passionflix have a great material to make this possible.
Tara’s writting is amazing and naturally flawless and fun. She is hilarious! Her experience as a writer is remarkable. And I can’t wait to read all of her books. That means I have a new favorite author.
Ember and Baker are so perfect together. The communication and dialogues between them was highly enjoyable. The pace in their relationship was a kind of slow burn but worthy enough. Highly recommended book.
This is a sexy, swoony, lovely story and…. did I said funny? Yes!! JUST MY TYPE!!
This was my first Tara Sivec book. People kept asking me what was going on because every time I was listening, I was cracking up. This book was hilarious. Not only was the narration great, but the dialogue was AWESOME! I think both narrators really brought this couple to life.
I loved both Baker and Em. That kind of snarky, sarcastic, smart a$$ communication is right up my alley. When she wanted to jump Brandon, I was soooo with her. When she finally found out the truth, it was one of those heart stopping moments you get after everything was sailing along so smoothly, and the other shoe drops. Baker was one of those sweet, sexy, caring guys that make you think, “I want a Baker.”
Brooklyn, Lincoln, Blake, and RJ just added to the overall hysteria of this book. Just My Type was definitely worth paying for, or using 1 credit. I could definitely see myself listening to it again or buying the ebook. It’s one of those books you want to have on hand for the sheer enjoyment.
I was fortunate enough to find it via Audio Escapes. The Simple Life is next on my list.
Just My Type exceeded my expectations…
After reading The Simple Life, I found myself a little uncertain as to whether I wanted to read/listen to Just My Type. I met Ember when she appears to be happily married to her Pharmacist hubby. Ember was living exactly where she wanted to live, working exactly where she wanted to work and bringing her son up surrounded by love ones. So, imagine my surprise when I read the blurb for Just My Type. I guess the image portrayed wasn’t exactly what I thought it was, there were obviously cracks just below the surface and not as perfect as I thought.
Now, the second part of my uncertainty was why she willingly left all that she loved because her husband got a new job? I know you’re supposed to support your partner and sacrifice for your family…BUT IT’S A TWO WAY STREET. The douchewaffle knew Ember and their son, Lincoln wouldn’t be happy but did it anyway. There were red flags flashing in front of Ember’s eyes and she ended up being completely screwed over. The douchewaffle deceived, manipulated and tricked Ember and left her feeling alone and helpless.
When I started this journey, I can’t say I was a huge fan of Ember. But, she was at her lowest so I guess it could only go up from there. Honestly, it does and I loved seeing her gain courage and enthusiasm for life that had slowly been diminished. I wouldn’t say she was fixed from knowing Baker, but he did help her find a new and awesome path for her and her son.
Baker was a pretty awesome hero and I loved that he knew almost instantly that Ember was the right woman for him. I’m a sucker for a hero who appears perfect but below the surface, there’s a little vulnerability. Baker is a good man who looks out for others. When he returns from war with a dodgy knee, he realises that other return soldiers are going through the same issues he was suffering from. He just wanted to recover without the looks, questions and pity. So, he created a gym for them to do it safely and privately.
To raise more awareness and money for his gym, Baker needs to drum up a bit of publicity. His uncle, who is also his main supporter, tells him he needs to do an article on his history. Ember comes into his life by accident when the person transcribing the interview gives her honest opinions on him and what he is all about. Baker loves her straight-talking and opinionated messages and it’s not long before he wants to meet the spitfire face to face.
Just My Type had me laughing out loud numerous times and I found myself thoroughly entertained. The additional characters including Baker’s sister, Lincoln, Ember’s son, and Aquarium-Tatoo Man (sorry can’t remember his name) were lovable, different and very original. The storyline was interesting, thought-provoking and at times heartbreaking. You just don’t know what people are thinking and suffering with below the surface. There were plenty of sexy times to show the connection between the characters and I never doubted their compatibility.
Besides my initial hesitations, my only other slight problem with Just My Type was the crudeness and rudeness Ember exposed Lincoln to. I know you can’t protect your kids from all the inappropriate words but this seemed a little OTT to me. I’m not a fan of kids swearing or using words they don’t really know the meaning of. Sure, it can be a little humourous when your kids innocently swear, but not monitoring and teaching them why they shouldn’t, is bad. This just made my eye twitch a wee bit.
Overall, I really enjoyed the journey to love for Ember and Baker. It wasn’t smooth but the bumps they did hit were easily traversed. If you’re looking for an entertaining read/listen and don’t mind a little rude and crude talk, I highly recommend giving Just My Type a go.
Audio review
The narrators, James Cavenaugh and CJ Bloom were great and made listening to this book very enjoyable.
Overall I really liked this book. There were so many laugh out loud moments, the emails between Ember and Baker were really cute and hilarious. I really loved how Ember was so clueless in what Baker was doing, he was fascinated with her and he was determined to see where they could go, so he started secretly dating her. The non-date with the otters was amazing!!
For me it was Baker who I adored, he was so sweet and seriously swoony as heck! Ember was quirky and definitely feisty, especially after her divorce but at one point all the swearing got to me. Don’t get me wrong, I generally have no issues with people swearing but for some reason it got to be too much. I do have to give a shout out to Ron Jeremy, the hedgehog, that loved everyone but Ember, the scenes with this little critter had me chuckling so much. What I really wanted to see were more repercussions against the ex, he was a complete jerk and I could not stand him.
All in all, Just My Type was a really fun read and I was thoroughly entertained. I do recommend it.
First 5+++ Star read of 2019
*Skip to the down & dirty for a mini review*
I didn’t know I loved romantic comedy until I read Seduction and Snacks by Tara Sivec in 2012 and became a creepy stalker. Since then I have read hundreds of romcoms, but Just My Type reminded me yet again why Tara Sivec is the QUEEN OF ROMANTIC COMEDY. My favorite thing to read in books is e-mail or text banter, and kids of any age. Just my Type by Tara Sivec had both, plus Tara’s signature humor. So you know what that means for a 50+-year-old mom? Bladder leakage when I laugh. Thanks, Tara.
“You t*tless wh*re. F*ck fitted sheets!”
Just My Type is the standalone spin-off of The Simple Life by Tara Sivec (Ember, the heroine, is Clint from The Simple Life’s sister and Brooklyn’s best friend). I loved The Simple Life , but Just My Type may now be my most favorite Tara Sivec book ever, and that’s saying a lot!
(graphic on blog)
Ember and her husband and baby left her beloved town of White Timber for Chicago when her husband got an amazing job opportunity there. She is suddenly thrust into being seen and not heard; just a pretty thing on her husband’s arm. She hates it there and has no friends, and after 3 months, the “t*tless wh*re” decides he wants a divorce, but she can’t go back home because of the custody agreement.
15 months later, still miserable in Chicago and kind of pathetic, Ember works doing transcriptions at home. She keeps notes that the clients never see, including giving them some interesting names and adding her own commentary to keep her attention while she listens. Due to a system glitch, those hysterical notes get sent to the client along with her personal email address.
“I called the client Sh*t Mouth. I accused him of not having any balls. And steroid use, just because he owns a gym. He’s going to rip me a new a$$hole.”
The email she gets back is hysterical, let me tell you, Baker cracked me up! As I said, banter, especially via e-mail or text is my #1 favorite thing in a book, and Just My Type had some of the funniest email exchanges I have ever read. Add to that a hysterically adorable little boy, (“Can we name him P*nis Breath?”) and I am smiling so big my face hurts.
“He’s hot. He’s a wounded war veteran. He opened a gym for other wounded war veterans. He’s funny. He likes that you’re a smarta$$. He’s protective of his sister. He likes kids. It turned him on when you threw up your baggage all over him. Am I forgetting anything?”
Sigh…I can’t wait until this comes out on audio, because I am so ready to crack up again listening to it.
“It’s called a piss boner, it makes you pee in two streams instead of one, it looks like a g*ddamn spitting cobra, and you can look it up.”
“What’s a piss boner?” Lincoln asks. “I want one. Can I have one?”
Not only was it funny, but it was totally sexy at times, and there was lots of sweet. Tara also introduces a new animal, Ron Jeremy, who was definitely the star of some of the most laugh-out-loud moments ever.
Likes:
•I was laughing out loud just from the table of contents. The chapter names are the best!
•Hysterical email banter.
•A funny-as-hell little boy.
•Tara’s signature 12-year-old boy humor.
•Enough story and emotion to balance out the silliness.
•Another adorable animal, and his name, Ron Jeremy, could not have made me laugh harder.
•I’m not sure if this is a like or a dislike…but as a 50+-year-old mother, my bladder control was nonexistent when reading this. (Warning: wear a pad if you tend to tinkle when you laugh too hard).
•I loved how Baker was totally macho (wounded war veteran who owns a gym) but totally not macho in personality, he was funny and easy going.
•Baker’s sister and her wife were a great addition and I love how he defended them.
•Visiting with the characters from A Simple Life.
Dislikes:
•I would have liked a more fleshed out reason for her having to stay there rather than just “custody agreement”.
The Down & Dirty:
As much as I read romantic comedy, nobody writes it like Tara Sivec. The smart-ass, immature, fun and silly banter just strike my funny bone in the perfect way. These are my people. 6 years ago I created Wicked Book Weekend so I could (in my mind) hang out with the characters (or at least the brain behind them) from Seduction and Snacks. I feel the same way here. I totally want to hang with Ember & Baker. I mean, I’m the girl who made a penis joke in my son’s Bar Mitzvah speech (no, it didn’t go over well, but I still think it was funny), so I love crude and stupid humor as long as it’s clever and has sweet and emotional moments as well. There is something about Just My Type that just felt easy. It felt like it flowed right from Tara’s head, but never once felt like she was trying too hard, or pushing for the funny lines. Lincoln rivals Gavin for my favorite book child, and Baker’s e-mails are my favorite book e-mails ever. I loved The Simple Life, but I loved Just My Type even more, and it is absolutely a 2019 favorite. Pinky Swear.
It’s been over 7 months since my last 5+++ star review, but any book that makes me laugh hard enough to leak (from eyes and elsewhere) deserves 5+++ stars. Though Just My Type by Tara Sivec stands alone easily, I highly recommend reading The Simple Life first to appreciate it to the fullest.
Rating: 5-5+++ Stars, 4 Flames for heat (First 5++ stars this year!)
I honestly never laughed so hard in my life and had such a fantastic time reading a book! I love Ember and Baker! The entire story was hilarious but the emails back and forth between the two? My husband thought I was crazy…laughing with tears rolling down my face! The banter between Ember and Baker was unreal and I loved every single moment of this book! Truly a must read for any Tara Sivec fan!
I can always count on Tara Sivec for a laugh out loud, soul touching story!!!
All of this was magnificent!!!
Another phenomenal book by this author. Her ability to have you feeling the emotional pain of the characters one minute and then have you laughing hysterically the next truly amazes me!!! Ember’s strength and love for her son shines through in everything she does; it was beautiful to witness. Baker’s passion for his gym and the way he loves to ruffle Ember’s feathers had me swooning and sn-laughing through out the whole book.
This has easily become one of my favorite Tara Sivec stories and also one of my favorite reads of this year so far. It doesn’t surprise me since Tara is one of my unicorn authors and there’s yet to be a book I haven’t enjoyed from her. I couldn’t stop smiling, laughing, swooning. The sarcasm and banter were funny and witty and sweet as hell.
I never thought anyone would ever come close to Carter from Tara’s Chocolate Lovers series but I gotta tell you that Baker is now tied with him. And Ember! I flippin’ loved her just as much. And now I’ve totally got a girl and boy crush – I don’t know who I love more honestly . The chemistry between Ember and Baker was intense and I couldn’t help but root for them from the beginning. Sometimes when two characters are alike the story feels stale and boring but that wasn’t the case with these two. They each played off the others sarcasm and low blows resulting in both panty-melting and laugh-out-loud moments.
I really don’t know what else to say other than READ THIS BOOK! A super easy and quick read that will leave you feeling so happy. Everyone likes being happy, right? Well then go read his book. Oh! Also, I can’t wait to read about Dax next. That is all.
Tara Sivec is a rom-com genius, and “Just My Type” is AMAZEBALLS! 🙂 Every time I think I have found my favorite Sivec book, she releases a new one, and it’s even better than the one before.
In “Just My Type,” we are re-introduced to Ember Hastings, best friend of Brooklyn Manning from “The Simple Life.” When we last saw Ember, she was happily married to the town pharmacist and they had a young son. Ember loved her life in small-town White Timber, where she worked on her family’s pumpkin farm and was able to spend lots of time with friends and family. Her happy life in White Timber screeches to a halt when her husband accepts a job offer in Chicago and moves Ember and their son to the big city. A few months later, her husband announces that their marriage isn’t working and walks out on Ember, forcing her to rebuild her life in a place that she hates, far from her beloved White Timber and everything she knows and loves.
Luckily, Ember is a fighter, so she doesn’t let a pesky thing like divorce keep her down for long. She manages to find a work-from-home job as a transcriptionist and a small house for her and her son. She hasn’t had sex in over a year, and isn’t planning to try dating anytime soon in spite of Brooklyn’s nagging, but overall, Ember thinks she’s doing pretty OK for herself. That is, until one day when the company Ember works for experiences a “technical glitch” and accidentally releases confidential information to its clients, including internal notes on projects in progress and direct email addresses for its employees working on those projects. Ember receives a snarky email from Baker Matthews about an interview she’s transcribing for him, and even though her company has specifically instructed its employees not to reply directly to clients, she can’t resist writing back anyway. After all, what’s the worst that can happen? Apparently, love can happen, and watching Ember’s relationship with Baker unfold is both hilarious and delightful.
I read this whole book with a smile on my face (when I wasn’t giggling or full-on laughing out loud). I loved the banter between Ember and Baker. It seemed like Ember was hiding the delightfully snarky side of herself during her marriage, but she allowed it to come out when she was with Baker, and he gave back as good as he got. Ember and Baker’s chemistry was also incredible, and when they were finally able to be together, I thought my Kindle was going to combust! Finally, I really enjoyed Baker’s growing relationship with Ember’s son, Lincoln. They seemed like they had so much fun together, and the scenes with Ron Jeremy (yes, really, just read the book) were hilarious.
“Just My Type” is absolutely one of my favorite books of 2019 so far. My advice: just stop whatever you’re doing and go read it now. You won’t be sorry!

This is a new to me author and downloaded the book because it sounded hilarious. OMGEE was I totally entranced by all the hilarity by the first chapter. Like, could not put down and giggling at 11 at night while the hubby was sleeping away peacefully getting annoyed at my snickers! I want to be like the h, I mean really, can I word vomit like her and still sound like the bad a$$ she is?
So well written with the perfect amount of humor, feels, and lets not forget to mention all the heat you can think of! As a mom, this book was hilarious in how accurate it is to find that time with your S/O while keeping the reality funny. I immediately downloaded the book before this so I can again giggle and snicker in the middle of the night and annoy my husband some more 😉
This is Just My Type written by Tara Sivec. Ma Sivec never fails to make me laugh out loud, rush through the reading of a book and turn immediately around and read it again! This one is amazing!! You will love Ember and her snarky comments about the clients that she types dictation for. Baker isn’t very good with enunciating …according to the wicked name that she gives him. You will not want to miss a minute of this one!! If you aren’t already a huge fan of Ms Sivec’s, this one will have you adding her as one of your most favorite authors!!
