This is a book was an interesting insight as to what would happen if you truly won the lottery.
3 couples who seem ordinary and come from different backgrounds have become friends over their weekly ritual of buying a lottery ticket. But soon lies, secrets, and yes even money start to split them. The author created this wonderful story where you in a constant state of trying to determine truth from lies.
If power can corrupt then what of money? we see how money can not only influence but change people in this captivating story I was exhausted by the end after the emotional rollercoaster of a ride.
By the end of the novel, nothing is as you thought and the author leaving you thinking if the next time a friend or colleague asks you to go in on a group raffle or lottery ticket will you?
Just My Luck is a classic story of being careful of what you wish for. It is a story about humanity and how the pursuit of wealth influences one’s behavior. Three couples. Friends with children. Presumed tight bonds, but lies and infidelities get in the way.
Three couples, each with kids. They’re hopeless entwined. They’re like family. They are from different socio-economic circles, yet their children and common parental experiences draw them together. Their weekly ritual of playing the lottery starts of fun, but eventually leads to mayhem. I couldn’t help but be invested in the story even though most of the characters are despicable and unredeemable. Just My Luck has a rich, delicious plot filled with twists and surprises through the last chapter. I was drawn in from the start and fully engaged until the end.
It has always been said that money changes people and it was never truer than in this latest book from Adele Parks. There is a lot going on between three couples and their children when their lottery numbers hit in a big way. It takes most of the book to tease out the truth and the intricacies of these folks’ lives but worth the read!
Lexie lives in a small village outside of London and works at Citizens Advice Bureau, where she fights for the underdog. When she learns she bought a winning lottery ticket, she wants to give a chunk of it away to help others. But her husband and teenage children have other ideas and are eager to spend the winnings. Tensions rise when their former best friends demand a “fair share” of the proceeds. Until last week, they had chipped in for fifteen years to play the lottery together. This layered story drew me in and had me eagerly turning the pages. And the ending! Brilliant writing and plot twists! You’ve got to read this book. Thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Another absolute page turner from one of my fave authors. Crazy twists and great characters throughout. Couldn’t put it down.
I have to admit that I was beginning to think that this was going to be a ho-hum tale of what it’s like to win the lottery and then bam! A twist entered the picture and I kept reading to find out what happened. There is a whole lot of family deceit going on, on both sides involving the husband and his lies and the wife and her lies, on top of dealing with their kids and the kids’ relationships. The bad guy in this story … now that was a kind of a shocker. I found this to be an entertaining read.
You know that game you play where you ask someone what they would do if they won a million dollars?
Well, what if it were almost 18 million? The problem is that while Lexi and Jake have bet the lottery with some friends forever, due to a disagreement they purchased this ticket by themselves.
As you might imagine the absolute worst of human behavior is on full display in no time when the friends feel entitled to share the win. It’s juicy and engrossing.
Adele Parks hits it out of the park again with this one!

She enjoyed her life for the most part. Their group of friends had been together for 15 years, putting their change into the weekly lottery. Then things changed. In the blink of an eye winning had changed everything. Slowly this author reveals the greed and twisted things that can happen when someone wins. The lies and deceit chaotically overtake all rhyme and reason as friends turn against friends, with husbands against wives and vice versa. Money changes things and these folks don’t get to escape it. This author shows us different sides of the story chapter by chapter as it all falls apart all the way to the last. I haven’t read this author before but she does write a compelling story. Her characters ae all over the board from the turd of a husband to the wife who does nothing to reign him in. Their friends (if you can call them that) are no better. All in all there are all not worth caring about so it makes it hard to be invested in the outcome. She does add some twist and suspense that makes it worth reading which keeps you turning the page if for no other reason than to see how she brings it all together in the end.
I have read books by this author before and I always love her writing style and her books always flow and keep you completely hooked from the very beginning. This is a book that will keep you turning the pages and I highly recommend this author because her work is absolutely fabulous.
6 friends have known each other for a very long time and have been through a lot together. They were all in a lottery syndicate with each other until then they weren’t. Would you let money split you, your family and your friends?
Lexi is a woman that holds the ticket for the 17 million and her and her family are all planning in which ways to spend it. Jake and their two children also have a gazillion ideas too. The only problem is that there friends feel that they are entitled to a piece of this windfall and are willing to go thorough some things to get it. This money has completely split their friendship, a friendship that Lexi was actually getting suspicious of as it is.
Money can be a gift or the enemy and it can either change your life for the best or change you for the worst.
This author always knows how to write her story lines that always are captivating and her characters are always very brilliantly written. I loved Lexi but wish she had a bit more of a back bone, and her husband Jake I didn’t like him I thought that he was very sly and devious.
This book started off pretty slow in the story for me and I was glad when it finally kicked up a notch. This book has a few twists that are thought were great in the book and it does keep you reading. This author always writes books in away that keep you gripped from beginning to end but this book did feel a tad predictable, but this book was still a very enjoyable read and I was glad that I read it.
I read this book in one sitting and if you love books that have some suspense and are twisty then you will love this book.
This book is out now.
