You can’t know if your love is unrequited if you keep it secret.
I liked this short (111 pages) romance about a drunken Vegas wedding. It has all the right elements to make a good book! I really don’t like to read short books under 80 pages. I think anywhere from 80 – 130 pages is a good length for a short read to have enough of a story including world building and character development. Anything shorter is usually missing something and some are just basically a few scenes glued together and are more pieces of porn than actual short stories.
This book was perfect for the type of book it is. Peyton is a Librarian and she is in Las Vegas for the wedding between her best friend Theo and her sister Jillian. She is happy that the two of them have found love together and is the maid of honor in the wedding. Peyton doesn’t let the two of them know, but she has been unhappy for a while with her own life. She wants what they have and she is sick of continually being the bridesmaid in other peoples weddings when all she wants is to be the bride in her own.
Her feelings happen to come out at the worst time and to the wrong person. It happens to be the best man in the wedding, Kingston. Kingston is the guy she has been crushing on since she moved in next door and became friends with his brother Theo. Kingston has always either ignored her or teased her and she hardened herself against him and pretended to hate him like he seems to hate her.
“Kingston has always treated me like crap. I won’t lie, every single time he was mean cut me to the quick. I started pushing back for the sake of self-preservation. If I didn’t like him, then he couldn’t hurt me. After a while, it just became second nature.”
In one drunken night everything changes and Peyton wakes up to discover she is married to Kingston. However, Kingston has hurt her in the past and Peyton doesn’t know if she can trust him with her heart now. Though he says he wants to give the marriage a try. The romance is steamy, I give this a 4 out of five flames for hotness !
I liked the way the book flowed and the history between the two main characters. I like the fact that Kingston is possessive and jealous at times but sweet and loving as well. I love the drunken marriage trope, I think what people do when they are drunk is often a predictor of what they really want. So why not give it a try? This was a very enjoyable book, just the kind I like to read between longer more complex books. It hit the spot so to speak!
This is the first book I have read by this author. But I will definitely be reading more of her books!
Kingston and Peyton have been at odds since high school. A drunken night ends with them married. Will they be able to find their way through the mess they have made? Will they realize that they have always belonged together?
This was a great #KURead. I look forward to reading more!
