It was the worst time of her life. Rowen Roberts had finally admitted to herself that the man she loved would never love her back. She was just fired from her job for violating client confidentiality, and to make matters worse, she’s held up at gunpoint in a convenience store where she only wanted some ice cream to help mask the pain.
The moment the gun is pressed to her forehead, she knows she has a decision to make. Follow the rules and maybe possibly live, or go down swinging where at least she can salvage just a little bit of her dignity.
And when Mr. January himself tells her to do what the gunman says, she’s had enough. Rowen has never really been a girl that does what she’s told. Mr. January won’t have to save her. She can dang well save herself.

Just skidding is the first book in the SWAT Generation 2.0 and this book will hold you hostage right from the start. Rowen and Dax will take you on a ride of unfortunate moments that bring them together. Dax sees Rowen after just one glance at her and he knows there will be no chance his eyes will ever look away. If Max Tremaine melted your heart, then Dax will own it entirely. Their story is filled with drama, emotional and the chemistry and heat between these two is nothing to kid about. Just Kidding is a story that will grip your heart, make you smile and have you falling in love with the next generation of SWAT.
I just love anything that Lani Lynn Vale gives us! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Give me More, More, More SWAT 2.0 men! This story was so beautiful & hilarious. Our leading lady is a victim of bullies and you have to love it when you can stick it to them! Dax is Mr. January and he is getting all the attention in this book. Rowen is his love interest and she is fully enjoying watching it play out as well. The HEAT level is high in this story!
5 Hot Stars
**review for narration version**
Rowen’s narration by Robyn Verne is smooth as silk, smart and sexy.
Dax’s narration by Noah Michael Levine is dark, silky and the delivery of clever comments just makes me giggle.
I’m no stranger to Kilgore, Texas, or the sinfully hawt alpha males who reside there and have the female population drooling and obsessing over just how sexy, manly, and oh so photogenic they are, given the fact that a dozen of these guys were talked into posing for a fundraiser calendar…
Enter Mr. January – Dax Tremaine – like Vale’s other heroes, it’s perfectly clear the kind of man he is and who he will be for Rowen Roberts, but what’s also a bonus is that he allows her to be herself as well and doesn’t try to control everything for her, which is exactly what Rowen needs…someone in her corner but not fighting her fights for her.
Rowen is an AMAZING heroine – one who decides to forge ahead regardless of the shitshow that has been her life and those individuals who continue to thwart any progress she’s made when it comes to both her professional and her personal life. She’s hellbent on making it on her own, not relying on anyone, especially a man, to save her or assist her in her mission. I love her sass and her strength, and I love that she stood strong for herself
Vale’s stories always include a supporting cast of characters who add another layer to the plot line, and because some of them are characters we’ve met before, an added bonus is checking in with those we know and love, reveling in the progress they’ve made in their lives as well. I also like the fact that upcoming heroes and heroines are introduced along the way, which means readers know ahead of time a little bit about those characters when their stories are ready to be told.
There is a crapload of crazy in Just Kidding, but that seems par for the course in Lani Lynn Vale’s story lines, which makes for one hilarious and frustrating journey for everyone involved.

H-O-T SWAT men is what you get and so much more! Ashley @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Lani Lynn Vale is one of my one click authors who does not disappoint! These men get hotter and sweeter with every book. Dax is Mr. January in the new calendar for charity but will this calendar help with his picture complex or make it worse. Rowen is the police Chiefs daughter who has her eyes on Mr. January but will she get him for herself? This story is all LLV and you will not want to stop flipping the pages!
A terrific story, and I can see from this first book from Lani Lynn Vale’s new series SWAT Generation 2.0, we’re in for an awesome journey.
This time around we have Rowan and Dax. Rowan has finally conquered law school, she’s passed the bar and now is in search of a job. She’s was looking forward to the position the internship would open up for her…..but Rowan didn’t count on Shondra’s interactions.
New to the Swat team, Dax is not too happy being told he has to pose for pictures for a calendar and he’s to be Mr January, especially after the disaster with his ex girlfriend. But when he’s told it’s a fundraising enterprise he reluctantly complies.
When the Dax and Rowan meet their chemistry is combustable. Dax recognizes his boss’ beautiful daughter, he remembered her from when she finished college. And Rowan can’t believe she’s actually meeting Mr January.
A quirky, fun read that had me giggling and sighing from start to finish. Terrific characters with a wonderful, refreshing story for them to be apart off.
A definite must read, I highly recommend this book!
I loved this story from beginning to end! I read it in one sitting.
Dax and Rowen are just everything. The sweetest couple even man. It’s not an easy start for them. Poor sweet Rowan has the patience of a saint because lord knows I’d be doing jail time for what happened to her. Dax!! Delicious, sweet and hard in all the right places, he stole my heart just like his daddy did. As per with Lani, this story has so many twists and turns you won’t see coming. Locked and loaded with an abundance of hilarious happenings, banter, bickering and sweet lovings. Oh, and of course a slew of side characters new and old to love just as hard. Romance, suspense, humour, hurt and heartbreak. Lani never sells her stories short! She gives us EVERYTHING. And yet my greedy self still wants more . I can’t wait for what’s next! So many exciting future possibilities.
I have read other books by this author and really enjoyed them, and this one was no different! I loved so much about the main character, Rowen, so much about her was just like me! Her attitude towards alcohol, as well as how she felt about having things on her head like hats, wigs, etc. I loved the different headings in each chapter as well, although at one point I did have to go Google what it suggested in one of them. Which was hilarious, even if it wasn’t completely true. Rowen and Dax were a great couple. You felt so much for her after what she’d been through, and you totally wanted to punch both her bully as well as Dax’s high school ex-girlfriend. I loved the whole watching the scary movie together, and while I prefer to watch on a tv, I could see how a laptop might be a fun comfy and somewhat sexy experience as well! I know that I want to read more in this series as well as maybe go back for some of the ones I haven’t read from the original SWAT books!
This is the first book in the KPD Swat 2.0 series. This is the second generation and I couldn’t be more excited to finally have this book!
I love that there is an actual calendar that goes along with it! My husband isn’t though.
This book was everything I knew, and hoped, it would be.
This is Mr. January, Dax Tremaine. If you’ve read the previous series, Dax is Payton and Max’s son.
Rowen is Luke and Reece’s daughter.
I felt bad for Rowen at the beginning, but I will admit I also laughed a little bit because how could someone be so damn crazy to do that?!
This book will have you laughing and swooning.
I can’t wait for more!
“Hey, I like your personality.
Me – Thanks, it’s a disorder.
Me – when I’m trying to make friends.”

So, if any of y’all know me well you would know that I love hunky, alpha cops. LOVE LOVE LOVE them. Lani’s SWAT books are right up my alley, the men are perfect. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard about the SWAT 2.0 series, one book a month for all of 2020. I am so in.
–
Rowen is our female lead, you might remember her from Center Mass with Luke and Reese. She is moving back home after passing the bar and has a bad experience with a coworker (spoiler alert, said coworker really sucks). Rowen meets Dax her first day back when she shows up at the police station to see her dad aka the chief of police aka Luke. Meeting Dax was not what she expecting but I love a good blindside attraction.
–
Dax Tremaine is HOT, period. He is a little sensitive, meaning he acknowledges his feelings in his head. He is also drawn to Rowen, which manifests in the sweetest way. Their relationship is so natural and easy. I loved their interactions, my favorite scene was them watching movies together.
–
I loved these two, they were adorable. Lani’s stories always keep me on the edge of my seat but also leave me smiling like a fool, this one is no different. I love the dynamic she is creating with the new generation of SWAT. I can’t wait for Mr. Februrary.
Dax & Rowen are everything I love about a second-generation book. Lani Lynn Vale writes characters that you fall in love with and that stay with you long after you put your book down. In This new KPD Swat Generation 2.0 book, you get to see the characters that you loved the first time around and fall in the love with their children as adults. Center Mass, the book that introduced me to Luke Roberts was also the book that introduced me to Lani Lynn Vale – because of this I had high expectations for both Katie and Rowen’s books. Well, Katie’s book was perfect, and I am happy to say that Rowen’s book was even better.
I loved Dax & Rowen. Their chemistry was undeniable. Dax was the perfect kind of Alpha that I love to read, and Rowen was the strong and sassy heroine that I have come to expect from LLV. I always read LLV’s book in one sitting and this one was just as easily devoured. I don’t know how LLV churns out a book a month, but I love knowing that I am going to get a new hero the first Tuesday of every month and that no matter what, I will be sitting down smiling while I read my newest Alpha!
Vale has delivered yet another delicious new series for me to fall in love with. I can never resist these sexy alphas of hers and Just Kidding gave me everything I have come to expect from her and then some. I could not put this one down. Not only is it full of HOT cops to lust over but a heroine that you can’t help butt want to be friends with.
Rowen and Dax are perfect for each other. They are sweet, secy and absolutely hilarious. I could not get enough of them.
A fabulous start to this new series and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Well, it’s clear that Swat 2.0 is going to be dangerous for my heart. When it wasn’t racing it was melting and I’m pretty sure that effect is going to just occur more and more with this series. I absolutely LOVE getting to see the next generation of characters I’ve loved for years get their happily ever afters. And I love it even more when their stories are as outstanding as Rowen and Dax’s.
This book had me not only hooked but entirely on the edge of my seat literally from the start. Lani comes out swinging with some of her best in this one. Rowen has grown into a woman who’s not only sassy, funny and kind but also incredibly strong. There are some things she goes through with such grace that I truthfully would not. Like not even a little bit. She’s bad@#$ just for that, but when you mix in all the other wonderful things about her she becomes a character that you can’t help but love.
And don’t even get me started on Dax. Calling this man hot is an understatement. HUGE understatement. He’s hot in every sense of the word and then some. He’ll have much more than just your heart melting if you catch my drift.
These two have immediate chemistry with just a bit of shyness at first that makes them extra lovable and that quickly grows into something that is absolutely beautiful.
I’m calling it now, with Just Kidding being this insanely good the Swat 2.0 series is going to blow everything out of the water.
Mr January
I was so excited I couldn’t sleep last night waiting for this book I absolutely loved Dax and Rowen and as per usual Lani delivered this masterpiece and I have high expectations for the rest
Rowen moves back home after an incident with a work colleague leaves her hairless Suffice to say her and Dax are thrown together from the get go and a beautiful love story unfolds and yes as anything worth having it’s fraught with unknown dangers
Just Kidding is the first in Lani Lynn Vale’s new ‘The SWAT 2.0 Series’ and is a great start to what looks like a fabulous new series.
Dax and Rowan make a fabulously cute couple and their story is entertaining to say the least.
Some of this is highlighted in their sibling rivalry based antics but throw in some crazy side characters and you’ve definitely got a winner!
Just Kidding is incredibly easy to read and can be ‘consumed’ in one post holiday sitting.
IMO it’s easy to identify the other ‘heroes’ that will form part of this series and I’m already wishing away the year to be able to dive in to what’s sure to be even more deliciousness!
What a fun read this story was and I have to stay that it made us laugh to the very end.The story had some really great characters but, Rowen turned out to be our favorite.
We have read an extremely large number of books and we always pick a favorite character that just sticks out and Rowen is just one of those characters that a reader will not be able to soon forget.
We loved Rowen from the onset of the story no matter how unfair life was beating her down she remained to be upbeat and strong and had an amazing sense of humor and she was also filled with warmth & kindness and loving and any man worth looking beyond the obvious new they would be gaining a treasure if only they could win her favor.
We loved Dax too! We found him funny and protective, kind, loving and full of a whole lot of hotness which he seemed to be uncomfortable with but, it also worked to his advantage when it came to raising money for a good cause.
We loved the chemistry this couple had as the were hot together in and out of bed but, they were just what the other needed and we loved that they had a lot and common and we also loved that Dax new that Rowen would be the kind of women who would be ever be tamed and I think is that what he loved most about her and us too.
Overall this was an enjoyable read to pass the time.Ms Vale get again made it easy for us to fall in love with her characters along with making us laugh out loud and the antic’s of some of our favorite characters to the very end.
Already loving this new spin-off series.
So this series will reunite you with some of your favorite characters from before. But you can certainly read this as a standalone.
I absolutely adored Dax and Rowen. Rowen is one of those characters that you wish you could be. She owns it and when you rile her up – man I loved when she was telling people off. Dax is “Holy hotness, Batman” – yeah that sums it up. He’s hot, he’s a cop, he’s S.W.A.T. and did I mention hot and also Mr. January. Hello – where is this calendar?!
“Dax would never leave me wanting more. He’d make sure that I got enough and keep making sure of that until he had nothing left to give.”
Rowen has some real jerks in her life, so Dax enters at just the right time. He sees the beautiful woman within and their chemistry is combustible. While the ending gets a little squirrely – I thoroughly enjoyed this book and couldn’t really put it down once I started.
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy and I can’t wait for more!!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
Let’s do a calendar they said. It’ll be fun they said. Well, they – i.e. Kilgore Police Departments public relations specialists-were wrong. It was the worst time of her life. Rowen Roberts had fianlly admitted to herself that the man she loved would never love her back. Dax and Rowen have such a story to tell and you are going to love it. I devoured this book. Rowen has just passed the bar but the firm she did her internship with has a bully in it and she is out to ruin Rowen. So when she learns the guy she likes is talking to said bully and wakes the next day after she is given shampoo from said girl she then is fired and is heading home. However home will bring her and Dax together and they have some major chemistry. However she is not a damsel in distress, She can take care of herself. I loved that about her and I love that Dax gave her the freedom to be who she is. This is a love story that has twists and turns in it and you will never see some things that will keep you one the edge of your seat. I loved it. you do not want to miss this one.
I am never disappointed when I read a book by Lani Lynn Vale and Just Kidding is no exception! This story will have you swooning and smiling as Dax, the smokin hot alpha guy falls for the sweet sassy, Rowen.
They grew up in the same small town but hadn’t seen each other in years so, when Rowen moved back to town a smolder started when they laid eyes on each other and as they spent more time together they just meshed perfectly! When they finally gave into their mutual attraction Dax and Rowen lit the pages on fire. But with any Lani Lynn Vale story she treats us to just enough intrigue to keep the story interesting and I can say, I didn’t see that end coming! It had the perfect twist!
So, grab this book! You will be in for a treat from beginning to end!
I have to say that LLV’s books are an automatic must-buy for me. It doesn’t matter which book I read from hers, I’ve loved just about every single one of them. And when I’m in a funk, I can always rely on her reads to get me out of it.
Well, LLV has delivered another series to just fall in love with, more of Kilgore and characters you want to devour.
There’s so many great moments throughout Just Kidding, LLV always delivers with some pretty comical moments. And you’ll definitely be entertained. Rowan and Dax were just perfect for one another, I enjoyed every single interaction between them.
If you’re a fan of LLV, you’ll love every second of this one, if you’re new and not sure where to start, this is a great introduction to LLV.
I’m so pumped for this series and can’t wait for book 2!
