Jayne Burns has come too far in her life to look back. An orphan, she’s used to being no one’s choice. Not anymore. When she lands a job as a private tutor for the adopted daughter of a world famous guitarist, everything changes. The rock gods of Rochester’s Pathos, Tennyson, Lee, Klaus, and Diego set their sights on her, and sweep Jayne off her feet. But the band has a secret, and if it comes to … secret, and if it comes to light, they’ll lose Jayne.
They refuse to give her up, and they’ll tell any lie, barricade any door, and fight any foe to keep her.

This standalone RH retelling of a classic story blew me away. No series to wait for. Grab this one up.
Jayne is such an interesting MC. She is more of a wall-flower, but she is also fierce and has a core of strength. She has to really had anyone in her life that cared about her. She is a live-in teacher for the rich. She takes a new job in England and finds her life turned upside down. Tennyson, Lee, Klaus, and Diego form the rock band Rochester Pathos. They have lots of secrets. I really like how Jayne does what is right for her and stands up for her beliefs both for her student and for herself. This story has some twists towards the end that I was not expecting, but I liked how the character grew from them.
This is a stand-alone, contemporary RH
I haven’t read Jane Eyre, still thought this was great.
Really enjoyed this. I like that it went different places to other Rock Star romances I’ve read.
Definitely keen to read more from Ripley Proserpina. Recommended.
Such a good book. I love how different the love was and how they found their way. Lots of hot steamy parts and it’s easy to fall in love with Jayne. Enough ups and downs to keep it interesting!!
Okay, I’ll have to come clean. I haven’t read the original classic, Jane Eyre. I know, I know that should be a given if you’re a reader but alas, I didn’t. However, I did watch the movie version. You know the one that stars Michael Fassbender (Edward Rochester) and may I just say, that movie is one of my favorite to this date.
I dived into this story blind, so when a few chapters in, I was thinking no freaking way is this Jane Eyre retelling. Just, no way! I loved the movie version so for me to read a retelling, I was torn apart. Literally. A lot of thoughts and questions were running through my mind as I get lost in this story. But in the author’s true fashion, she put her own spin into it and I was a goner! The story in my opinion rings of Bronte in the sense that it held the same formula. The difference and what made this a great read for me is that the author let loose the restraint passion and emotion and made the ending so much sweeter. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the movie and will remain as is, but this book will stay with me for a long time. What I loved more is that the story is set in contemporary scene, an RH with a bevy of moody, artistic rock stars and a heroine that clearly is not Just Jayne.
Perfect for those who loves a great retelling of an old classic with a twist!
Just Jayne Kindle Edition
by Ripley Proserpina
I borrowed this book via the Kindle Unlimited program and am leaving a fair and honest review.
I have to admit, Jane Eyre is among my favorite books (it gets a read every year) and Charlotte Bronte is perhaps my true favorite author. She was one of the focuses of my studies, so I was looking very much forward to this book. And I’m glad to say, that while Just Jayne will never replace Jane Eyre, it will be a book I re-read as well-researched
Jayne Burns has the strength of Charlotte Bronte’s creation although some time her inner dialogue comes out as a bit whiny. Beyond that she is a character to love and respect.
Ms. Proserpina does an amazing job spreading out Mr. Rochester’s issues (he actually may have more issues than Bruce Wayne) along Tennyson, Klaus, Lee and Diego and keeps the characters whole.
The story is nearly identical to Jane Eyre, but the Madwoman in the Attic trope isn’t as well filled out.
A contemporary rock-star RH – wow that’s a sub-genre of sub-genre! But a story that bridges from the Regency original to our own.
As a side note – Having lived in the Willamette Valley all my life and recently moved to Central Oregon – it isn’t always raining!
I really did love this book and I highly recommend it.
Five stars out of five.

This reverse harem story is a contemporary retelling of the Brontë classic Jane Eyre. Just Jayne pays homage to the original within reason considering its four men verses one. I’m not a fan of Jane Erye so this wasn’t my favorite of all Ripley’s stories. I did enjoy to the guys being rockers and creative.
It was sad reading Jayne’s mistreatment by her extended family and school master as a girl, making it all the more rewarding when she makes a living nurturing her pupils. Jayne is strong of character for the most part and diligent in her devotion to Sophie. The guys are drawn so perfectly, I could almost see them. They each bring something different to the family, but they are all keeping a big secret. Secrets always come out and it’s rarely better later.
The manor plays an important part making it almost a character in the story. I love the vivid description and the noises within the home that scare Sophie and Jayne. If you’ve read JE then you know what’s making the noises.
I really enjoyed the way the story wrapped up. They got their HEA and so did I!
Jayne has been a tutor for the rich and famous for a long time, now that her latest charge is heading to boarding school, she’s summoned to her agency for an interview.
There’s a lot of mystery involved in that first interview, but it does get her on a plane to London and the second interview.
In spite of not wanting to get involved, Tennyson, Lee, Klaus, and Diego were determined to make Jayne theirs.
I fell in love with their daughter Sophie, and their interactions with her were priceless.
There is a major secret here though, one that could ruin everything. So much subterfuge and almost truths.
I couldn’t put this book down as clues get dropped as to the origin of the secret in the creepiest of ways. We get a look at the lifestyle of the rich and famous, as well as a bit of the crazy music world.
Plenty of clues, some laughs, and off the charts heat as this tale unfolds.
Contemporary Rockstar Romance. Standalone. Easy/quick relationship. Jayne finds herself the live in teacher to a daughter of rockstars. I loved this story. Jayne stayed true to who she was and you see that throughout. And that plot twist was beautiful, didn’t see it coming. The guys are perfect. I really need to know what happens to River though.
This book was exceptional! A reverse harem romance that is surprising beautiful and filled with deep emotions. This clever re-imagining of the classic novel, Jane Eyre will easily sweep you up into the story, touch your heart and leave its mark on your soul. The chemistry in this book is off the charts. and the pull between the characters undeniable. Drama, secrets, pain, poignancy, heartbreak, love and passion, all play a part in this remarkable tale that will totally wreck you emotionally.
