GabbyMy life isn’t exactly going as planned. I’m basically floating up a certain creek without a paddle. Desperately needing a new place to live, I receive an offer I can’t refuse, and you never look a gift horse in the mouth, right? Unless that particular mouth is connected to an uber sexy manwhore that makes me want to punch him in the face and then kiss him until I pass out from lack of … pass out from lack of oxygen. I must avoid him like the plague.
Chase
Gabby Connor; there is no request too small in my eyes. When I blurt out an offer I know she can’t refuse, I don’t think either one of us realize that our lives are about to change. Something else I didn’t comprehend, how hard it would be to keep my hands off of her, or my mouth, or my… you get the picture. It’s our time, no more hiding or waiting in the wings. I’m pulling out all the stops. I’m tired of being in the friend-zone. It’s time to take what I’ve always wanted.
But nothing is easy for us. Our road is full of twists and turns and a few surprises along the way. When push comes to shove and the cards are thrown on the table, can we navigate a new life, especially when we’re just getting started?

I love these two authors. But together they are even better. I love this series. The first book was so good but I love this one so much more. Can’t wait to see what else these two bring us.
Just Getting Started by Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black is the second book in the Fair Lakes series and brings us Gabby and Chase’s story. We first met them in It’s Not Over and though you can read this book as a standalone, I highly suggest reading book 1, as I loved it. Gabby and Chase have known each other for a while, as Gabby is Gwen’s sister and Chase is Harrison’s best friend from the first book.
The chemistry has always seemed to be there between them, but they also seemed to love bickering with each other as well. Chase was always the player, but he is finally ready for more, but can he convince Gabby he’s changed? He definitely brought his A-game in his pursuit of Gabby. He is charming, possessive and all kinds of alpha. Gabby was feisty and strong. Just Getting Started by Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black was a fun and light read.
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens book Blog.
Happy reading!
I loved It’s Not Over book one in the Fair Lakes series so I jumped at the change to read book two! I love all things Kaylee Ryan! I love that we got another look at Harrison and Winnie, and are getting Gabby and Chase’s story. The way those two argued in It’s Not Over I just knew I need them together.
Chase is the guy who never sleeps with the same woman more than once, he doesn’t have girlfriends he has friends. But Chase has decided he wants something different. Chase sees his friends with their wives and children, and he wants that too. Gabby has some secret feelings for Chase but refuses to show them, since he isn’t exactly known for having relationships. When Gabby finds herself in a small problem with her building being bought, she finds herself Chase.
Chase and Gabby bicker like they have been married for two hundred years. They did it in book one and they were still doing it in book two. However, it just made me smile. These two have a sense of comfort with each other that is just amazing. I’m sure it comes from all the time they have spent together because Chase is Gabby’s brother-in-law’s best friend. You can see the attraction they share for each other right away. I love that Chase just kind of decided he had, had enough and took matters into his own hands so to speak.
Black and Ryan deliver an amazing story with Just Getting Started. The duo are fantastic separately, but when they come together is phenomenal. Just getting Started is well-written with a great plot, and characters. It was not a simple boy meets girl, and they live happily ever after. Chase and Gabby’s story had twist and turns that had me captivated and hooked. I cannot wait to see what they give us with the next book!
This book definitely pulled at your heartstrings.
Chase is a man who goes after what he wants. Never backing down in how he expresses his feelings for Gabby.
Gabby feels the pull towards Chase but remains distant and protects her heart.
When things finally fall into place for them as a couple, an unexpected surprise arrives.
Just when Chase thinks his relationship is about to crumble, Gabby steps up and becomes his rock.
Their love stands the test of time.
I really hope Colt gets his book next!
Just Getting Started is the second book in the Fair Lakes series by my newest favorite duo, Lacey Black and Kaylee Ryan. I have read all of Lacey’s books and have loved them all. Kaylee is a new to me author and loving the work they are doing as a team. Each book in the series can be read as standalone but I highly recommend reading them in order to fully get to know these characters. If you read It’s Not Over then you have met Gabby as Gwen’s sister, and Chase as Harrison’s best friend. The synopsis explains it perfectly so I will try to make this fast.
Chase and Gabby have known each other for years through Harrison and Gwen. It’s been years of banter, looks, and being each other’s pain in the ass. So, it was kind of a shock when Chase offered his guest room to Gabby when her building is sold. She didn’t think it was the best idea but it was one she really couldn’t refused. To Chase this was a chance to show her who he really is. A man who wants her. A man who has wanted her for a long ass time. A man who has been waiting for her to be ready. The problem? She thinks he is a total egotistical manwhore. Can Chase prove to her that he isn’t that man. He is a man who wants to deserve her and only her?
I absolutely loved, loved, loved their story! So. Hard. It has everything. Banter. Intensity. Twists. Lovable and swoon-worthy characters and words. Passion. Laughter. Love. Sass. It’s truly a beautiful story. I can’t wait for the next book! I need it like now.
Quotes:
“What is your type?” she asks, leaning into me. I can feel the warmth of her body seeping into my skin.
“Brunette, about five foot five, big green eyes, and sassy as hell.”
“Uhhh, is this where you bring the ladies to torture them?” I ask, my voice slightly breathy.
Chase snorts. “Oh, you don’t know what torture is, Gabrielle.”
The way he says my full name. Gahhhh! So deep and husky and just… deep. Yeah, I said it twice. It warrants a second mention.
I want her. I’ve always wanted her. We can be friends, best friends even, but we’re more than that. I want to be her friend, her lover, her confidant, her shelter in the storm. I want to be her everything.
Just Getting Started is all I can think about when it comes to this collaboration, because Lacey Black and Kaylee Ryan are just getting started with some serious epic romance novels. I don’t ever want this collab to end. Just Getting Started flowed so naturally, I seriously could not tell you who wrote what. There was so much depth and amazing dialogue that held so much witty banter, I could not stop reading once I started. Although I wouldn’t say this book is angsty, I am saying that I was shocked by some of the feelings that Just Getting Started evoked from me. I mean I am not really surprised because both of these authors do that to me, they make me feel everything their characters feel. I was just surprised by the story line, because Holy firecracker, I did not see that plot coming. I loved the characters and secondary characters. It was so nice to be able to see past characters resurface, and have their impact on this novel. The chemistry was out of this world. It was blinding and pure sexiness. Overall this story was amazing, now I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Praying to God it’s Coltons.
Gabby is witty and unfiltered with sassiness that will have you doubling over in laughter. She has a kind heart with a giving soul.
Chase is a sexy personal trainer that can reel in any woman with his looks alone. He is funny and light, can banter with the best and loves to tease.
When Chase gets fed up with Gabby putting him in the friend-zone, he takes matters into his own hands. But what happens when the unexpected happens?
*I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!
This is a standalone in a series for the most part it stands on its own. There is a lot of reference to the first book in the first quarter of the book so reading it would clarify those points. I found I was more than able to enjoy the story without reading it, though. I love the way the author writes sexual tension. You can really feel the pull between the characters. The story is very sweet but there were some definite hot sex scenes which I enjoyed. I would definitely recommend reading Just Getting Started! It’s a 5 out 5 read for me. It hit all the high points a sweet sexy romance like this should.
I received an ARC copy of this novel in exchange for a fair review.
This was a good story. Just when you think you know what complication will come up next there it’s a twist an you are sent for a loop. These two authors write very well together. You can’t tell which one is writing at any given point as you sometimes can with the cowritten projects. Very well done ladies!
Just Getting Started has these two authors blending their writing styles together seamlessly to bring us Gabby and Chase’s story. A story that will show us just how far someone will go to prove that his reputation is not all what it seems. As these two fight the chemistry, attraction and the unspoken words, all rules might just get thrown out the window. These two will have you enamored by the passion that emanates from the pages as they do the dance between friendship and forever. A heartfelt story that packs a punch with the unwavering love between two characters that you will feel soul deep.
This book is the second book in this series. Fair Lakes Series. I absolutely loved this book it was just as good as the first one.
I absolutely love the covers of these books too.
FAIR LAKES SERIES
Book 1 = It’s Not Over
Book 2 = Just Getting Started.
Chase has decided that he’s had enough of just sleeping with any woman that throws herself at him and he wants more. He wants what his friends have, the family the home he’s sick of just having one nighters. Chase has feelings for Gabby and she’s not easily convinced. Chase has his work cut out for him.
Gabby is in a pickle at the moment and needs somewhere to live as her building gets sold. She’s hardly any time to find somewhere else so Chase offers her a room at his home. Gabby is attracted to Chase just as much as he is to her only she’s keeping her feelings quiet she doesn’t believe he can change. There is alot of banter between these two which I love and they a strong connection .
The story line is fantastic and all the twists throughout keeps you guessing.
This book has characters from the first book Harrison and When and we get to see where they are with their story which was fantastic. You can feel Chase and Gabby’s love and their sexual chemistry and they are great together. I really enjoyed reading this book and hope that their is more books in this series.
I look forward to reading more from these authors in the future.
Thank you to the author and publishers for allowing me to read an early copy of this book.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone when it gets released.
This book is Now Live.
I received a complimentary ARC – early release copy of this book in Kindle format from the author for review purposes.
This is book 2 in a series but easily stands alone. It stars Gabby, little sister of the heroine in the first book and her brother in laws partner and best friend, Chase.
The biggest issue for these two is that they have known each other for YEARS. So Gabby sees Chase as a huge HOTTIE but that he is too much of a player for her. This is Chases story and how he gets Gabby to see who he is today and not who he was years ago.
The two end up as roomies and that’s when the fun begins and we get to see Gabby start to see who Chase is and how much he wants a chance with her.
Chase has a brother and I hope the next book is about him. When things start to get complicated Gabby has to decide if she will stand by her man or runaway. I loved how Gabby really matures in this story and Chase lets her in.
This is a fun and light romance with some really awesome characters and a well written story with characters I fell in love with.
I absolutely loved every single page of Chase and Gabby’s story. This friends to lovers romance had everything that I love about this trope. There was lots of flirting disguised as “bickering”, some amazing chemistry and just enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black are 2 of my absolute favorite authors and I love reading the books that they are writing together. They are a match made in romance co-writing heaven!!! I cannot recommend this book enough!!
Just Getting Started by Kaylee Ryan & Lacey Black is book Two in the Fair Lakes Series. This is the story of Chase and Gabby. I have read the previous book which added to my enjoyment of this one. Gabby is the sister to Gwen who we met in the first book and Chase is Harrison best friend from the first book. With that said I did feel this could be a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Chase can get any women he wants and has but he has come to a point in his life that he wants something more…and that more is Gabby. But Gabby has kept him in the friend zone but he working to get himself out of that. Gabby has always been taken by Chase but she knows he is a ‘love them and leave them’ guy. When Gabby ends up being homeless due to her apartment building being sold, so she is desperate for a place to stay until she finds another place. Of course Chase uses this as a opportunity to advance his goal. I enjoyed their frenemies to lovers story.
Just Getting Started is the second book co-written by this author for this series. We get to see where the characters from the first book are and we get the story of Gaby, Gwen’s sister and Harrison’s BF, Chase in this story. Chase is known as a guy who gets around, but I’m going to say just remember to not judge a book by it’s cover cause wowzer you got us on these little twists that came to light. He’s had enough of the single life and has liked Gaby for quite a while now so now it’s time to show her. It won’t be easy based upon his past so the title is perfect for these two. He’s Just Getting Started on showing her just how serious he is and what perfect timing when she needs a place to crash. Welcome home Roomie! I love that even in book two you still cannot figure out which author wrote which chapter. These two co-writing together are books to fall in love with so take your title, Just Getting Started and plan on writing more for us to enjoy in the future. Like a Colton story maybe. You will feel the chemistry between these two and keeps you guessing on where and how it plays out. You do not have to read book one to read this one; however, you get to see the connection and banter these two gave each other and how it led up to the now. If you enjoy co-writing stores and frienemies to lovers to story is for you.
This is the 2nd book in this amazing series and is Gabby and Chase’s story. Gabby is Winnie’s sister from #1 and Chase is Harrison’s best friend. These two are like petrol and a match, but the undeniable chemistry between them, can they take a chance on each other? This is a beautifully written story which is humorous and entertaining which had me totally captivated throughout this riveting tale, and I highly recommend for all.
I loved every single word of this book. I loved the banter, the drama and all the love that is this book.
Gabby and Chase were made for each other. I was rooting so much for her to finally let down her wall and give into him because that man is everything!! He was patient, loving and funny. The twist and turns had me at the edge of my seat just wish and rooting that they would get past everything and finally reach HEA they both deserved.
I’m a HUGE fan of this collaboration and I can’t wait to see the next HEA they come up with because they’ve shown how good they work together. Easy 5* from me.

I loved the first book in the Fair Lakes series, where we were introduced to Gabby and Chase and I was so looking forward to their story and I was not disappointed. Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black are rapidly becoming of one of my favorite writing duos. Their writing seamlessly blends together creating stories that captures instantly.
I absolutely loved Gabby and Chase’s story. It has everything. Banter. Intensity. Twists. Lovable and swoonworthy characters. It’s truly a beautiful story. I really enjoyed Chase and Gabby as characters and felt their chemistry. They were a great fit for each other and complimented each other perfectly.
This book; a frienemies to lovers romance, has everything I need in a unputdownable read. The banter, the sizzling chemistry, the small dose of angst and a few surprises along the way. These are all present in this well-written, heartwarming love story from two authors who have quickly become an automatic one-click fave duo for me! I cannot wait to see what these two come up with next.
After reading It’s Not Over I was so excited to read Chase and Gabby’s story and Lacey and Kaylee did not disappoint! This was probably one of the best books both authors have written.
The character development was really well done and you could see the growth of the characters throughout the book. The conflict in this book wasn’t left to the last couple chapters like most romance authors do and instead they had conflict through the whole book which actually made it more realistic.
Let’s start with Chase. HOT DAMN I thought they wrote Harrison well but wow, they did a great job with Chase. I love how it was in both perspectives and you could see how genuine and what a good guy Chase actually was. I liked that in Book 1 (It’s Not Over) they make Chase seem like this huge player and womanizer. Normally authors leave characters like that alone but instead they gave him character development and showed that there was way more to him than meets the eye. The way that he grew through the whole book was amazing to read and made your heart all warm because wow. If everyone had a Chase there would be no sad women.
Gabby. Gabby. Gabby. This girl is so strong it was admirable. They wrote her character amazingly and I love that she took everything that came at her with everything that she had. I love how you could see that she went from love hating Chase to loving him and realizing the difference. It was very cool to watch her grow from book 1 to this and to FINALLY see her get her own love story.
This book was so well written, had such an amazing fluid story you would never know there were 2 authors working on it. That just shows how well these 2 authors work together.
Lacey and Kaylee: Well done ladies! This book was phenomenal! I am so excited to see where we go next in Fair Lakes…maybe Colton?
Just Getting Started is the second book in the ‘Fair Lakes’ series by Lacey Black and Kaylee Ryan. We met Gabby and Chase in the first book of this new series (It’s Not Over) and I for one was hoping they’d get their own chance at love. Well, now they have.
It’s a hot and heavy insta-love kinda get together, after all their fighting in the first book. But, it works well here.
Chase is all kinds of swoony-worthy and seductive charm. Gabby tried to show the world that she was a tough, no-nonsense woman but in her heart of hearts, she was vulnerable and sweet. Chase was just what she needed.
I was captivated by this story from the first page and was sorry when it ended. But it was wonderful while it lasted.
Can’t wait to see what these two authors cook up next.
Two of my favourite authors are back with a second book in this series and what a another great read, just like the first book the words flow effortlessly together. Gabby and Chase have such great chemistry, the banter and push pull between them, will have you smiling and laughing. Love the storyline that twists one way then throws a curveball another way, really hope Lacey and Kaylee give us more.
