Childhood Best Friends Kade And Lucy Get A Third Chance At Love!
Lucie, twenty, is a serious-minded college student. She particaptes in study groups, never gets drunk and doesn’t glam up but yet stands out with her natural good looks. Unfortunately, her childhood crush attends the same school, and watching him parade around with endless girls is quite a distraction.
Kade, also twenty, comes from new money – he will be the third generation to run the family empire. He first needs to get his business degree to prepare him for the responsibility. With money to throw around and a helicopter at the ready, he is fully engaged in the social aspects of his second year of college, fully and foolishly believing his father’s generous donations will asure that he passes his courses. He has a rule: never sleep with a girl more than five times. For him, life is a nonstop party.
Until one afternoon he spots his childhood best friend and neighbor Lucie with her study group. Despite the harem surrounding him, he can’t look away from her. He notices for the first time how beautiful she is and regrets losing her friendship when they were fourteen. He feels compelled to win her friendship back.
Kade and Lucie slowly become reacquainted, and everything indicates to both that they have a chance at something real, until Kade drops out of school and disappears without a word, leaving Lucie to presume he left because she (like in high school) presumed too much and came across as pathetic and needy.
Kade is whisked away by his furious father in a makeshift way to force him to grow up. When he returns after five years of hands-on work experience across the globe, he is surprised to find that Lucie is a single mom and living with her parents. Nobody knows the father’s identity, but that doesn’t prevent old feelings from being rekindled.
This story is very touching. Lucie and Kade’s history is what keeps them coming back to one another. Lucie is a good girl, always with good intentions. Kade, however, has tremendous growing pains. When his hormones kick in at fourteen, he sees Lucie as his friend and looks at other girls, completely ruining his friendship. He also begins to make guy friends and begins to get caught up in popularity and his wealth. He is a classic case of ADHD, too. He has difficulty learning in school and acts compulsively (and recklessly). His parents’ intervention really saves him from himself.
Lucie’s long-suffering patience to try to do right by both Kade and their son Logan gives Kade the opportinity to finally get his act together. It was rewarding to see him earn back his family’s respect and Lucie’s love.
It felt unrealistic to believe that Kade did not return for five years. Certainly he would have been given vacation time, like any employee. Seeing Lucie or learning she had a baby would have been unavoidable during a visit, given their mothers were best friends and neighbors. Also, he claims he had no spare time – not even enough for a one night stand in his five years away. It is credible that he was kept busy and moving often enough that he had no time for a relationship. However, five years without time for a one night stand makes no sense. Also, he claims he cooks well, implying he had time to develop that skill. It is later said that he thought of Lucie during those years, and that as an excuse for not dating makes much more sense. Finally, in the modern era, it is hard to believe that in those five years of pining after Lucie that he didn’t reach out on social media or email at some point.
I would give this story 3.5 stars if possible. The story is lovely, but it reads like a first draft. It has editing and proofreading issues, and is confusing in places.
I received a free advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A lot of mistakes in words. Ay for say, my for me, life for live, etc.
As a fan of Mia, I did enjoy this book. I don’t know if it’s a favorite. I loved the story. I’m not sure how I feel about Lucie. Her character didn’t seem to be strong but more of a pushover. I did like Kade but sometimes he annoyed me. I still loved the story and I adored Logan. The ending was great too and I did enjoy that. There were some editing errors that made it a little hard to read but still a good book.
A HEARTBEAT AWAY!!!
This is one refreshing, heartwarming, gut wretching, bring you to your knees read that takes you from emotional wreck to over the moon. Yeah, guys its that good. Mia always brings her A-game when she shares her gifts with us. She never holds back. With a strong storyline she draws us into her imagination and creates a world around us so realistic until everything else ceases to exist. The characters are intriguing and believable. Their personalities played off one another and bring life to the riles they were created to play. The scenes are vividly detailed and draw out all the emotions and drama you can handle. The connection between the two main characters are deep and endless. With twists and turns and a few surprises thrown in and enough spice to add flavor you have well balanced characters and a great plot. Fantastic job Mia, thanks for sharing this remarkable read with us.
Heart-rendering, emotional and STEAMY! A fast-paced second-chance romance that will make you feel so good!
I love “JUST FOR YOU” by Mia Ford! It made me smile, tore me up and made me cry, and had me shouting in joy as I read the promised HEA! Yet for all of the emotional trauma, this is one of those “feel good” stories that make one smile at the mention of the title. Yeah, “JUST FOR YOU” is that good! First, I fell in love with Lucie. Her wonderful courage, as well as her propensity to plan out every little thing, was endearing. Additionally, I liked the Brit-slang feel of the conversations between the characters! It kept me on my toes and added to the story’s unique flavor. As always occurs, author Mia Ford’s characters were exceptionally well crafted and richly flavored. Readers will fall in love with the lead characters despite their flaws because of the wonderful introspection Ford allows them to share with the reader as the events of the story take place. That changing perspective, telling the story from Kade’s point of view and then Lucie’s point of view allows the reader to understand so much more about the characters and the decisions they make. There is no underlying social commentary or deep message beyond the romantic “love conquers all.” “JUST FOR YOU” is a wonderfully refreshing love story with all of the steam that Mia Ford brings to her novels. I was given an ARC of “JUST FOR YOU” to prepare this honest voluntary review and must give it the STRONG five-star recommendation that it has earned. Get your copy of “JUST FOR YOU” today! Happy pages!
This is a great second chance romance. What do they day, third time is a charm? It takes every bit of that third time for Lucie and Kade to reconnect, forgive and find out what they truly mean to each other. No spoilers, just get this and read their journey for yourself!
Kade and Lucie were childhood friends who reconnected in college. He was a playboy who really got around and one night they had a romantic hook up and then he was gone. All it took was that one night to change Lucie’s life. Now he’s back five years later and secrets will be revealed but is it too late for these two to reconnect? I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
