Just an Illusion – Unplugged is book four in The Illusion Series. If you have not read Side A, The B Side, or EP, please turn around and go back to Side A. Trust me, you want to read this series the way it was intended- in order.
Sawyer Weston is cocky and arrogant. With his sinful smile and sexy dimples, he’s gotten his way most of his life. Infamous for his one-night stands and moves between … moves between the sheets, the lead singer for Bastards and Dangerous has never considered relationships—until he meets her.
With her curvy body, sarcastic mouth, and uncanny ability to put Sawyer in his place, Amelia Greyson has captured his heart. She can see into his soul and knows what he truly wants from life. Sawyer has a problem, though—she’s dating his twin brother Noah.
Although he wants her with every breath he takes, Sawyer and Noah’s complicated history prevents him from making a move on her.
Just an Illusion—Unplugged tells Sawyer’s story. Every thought, every feeling, are yours for the taking. Are you ready?

I absolutely love this group of characters! These books gutted me & put a huge smile on my face. Amazing look into Sawyer & loving the unmasked friendships!
D. Kelly has an innate ability to wrap you up in a cocoon of emotion like no other. Going into this book, I honestly didn’t believe that my heart could break any more or that my opinions would change about the decisions made by Noah and Sawyer. Furthermore, I wasn’t sure how much more the author could add to their story just by providing a different point of view. Oh, how I was wrong! Every moment and interaction was new. This book’s main focus was on the twins. The author dove deep into Noah and Sawyer’s love for one another as well as the animosity that sometimes bubbled just below the surface. We were able to experience how the decisions each made altered the dynamics of their relationship and Sawyer’s sense of self. It became clear that every part of Sawyer’s life was tied to Noah’s – his future as a musician as well as the way he felt about his worth. The author also provided some insight into Sawyer’s relationships with family and friends, which added to the depth of his character. I loved getting to know the loving, selfless, and tortured soul that existed within the self-deprecating, bad boy rock star he portrayed to the outside world. I can’t wait to see where the author takes us next!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy of this book.
I chose to not reread Side A or B before reading Unplugged. Although everything in Unplugged is familiar, it still feels like a whole new book. Some snippets of conversation are repeated, but not enough to feel repetitive or to get bored. I enjoyed getting Sawyer’s POV. I loved seeing the friendship between him and Belle develop. This book was not nearly as emotional as the other books, but my eyes kept welling up at thoughts of future events. I can’t wait to get the rest of Sawyer’s POV.
This author always brings me to tears!
This is Sawyer’s account of his feeling when he meet Amelia and the love that he had for her when she was with his brother Noah.
I found that I have a new respect for what Sawyer went through the whole time while he sat back and watched his brother fall in love with Amelia.
My heart was ripped to pieces, I cried and cussed him out because he won’t say anything.
Thank you D. Kelly for this amazing story!
~5 +++++ STARS~
Wow! What can you say about a book this phenomenal? D. Kelly has amazed me yet again. I shouldn’t be surprised because every book she writes continues to be better. She has brought me to tears many times in this series, and she does it again with this book. However, with tears of sadness also comes tears of joy! Unplugged is one of my top 10 reads of 2018, and one of my all-time favorite reads.
I’m so glad that this is Sawyer’s story. We all know the story from Mel’s perspective but not his. There is so much I want to say, but I can’t. I don’t dare take away anything from the series, so I won’t be giving away any spoilers. Sawyer is so much more than I even imagined he was. His emotions were raw and real, and I have always loved him. He’s the epitome of a sexy rock star, but he has a special internal quality that always tugged at my heart.
Sawyer has never been a fan of relationships until Amelia (Mel) enters his and his twin brother, Noah’s lives. She has no problem putting him in his place and doesn’t swoon over him like other women do. But, she also sees into Sawyer’s heart. The two grow closer, but Mel’s heart belongs to Noah. This complicates things because as much as he wants her, he loves his brother.
As much as this is a book is about Sawyer’s love for Mel, it’s also about book about Sawyer’s love for his brother. As the author wrote in her synopsis, this is Sawyer’s story, “every thought and every feeling.” What a bittersweet and emotional story it is! I cannot recommend this series enough!!!! If you are looking for an emotional romance, look no further than Mel, Sawyer, and Noah! You will not be disappointed!

The Illusion series is one fo my favorites of all time. So I was pleasantly surprised to see that Ms. Kelly was writing more about my favorite characters. In JAI Unplugged we get to see the same events but from Sawyer’s perspective. It was heart breaking to see how hard it was for Sawyer to fight his feelings for Amelia. I admired his strength and his dedication to his relationship with his brother, Noah. I also enjoyed getting to see that he and Belle had a friendship that I wasn’t aware of in the previous books. Although most of this book was Sawyers view of how things went down in the beginning, we also got to see a small glimpse of his and Mel’s life now. I loved reading Unplugged and I can’t wait to get the rest of the story in the next book.
Having read the ones proceeding this I knew I needed to get into this one like I need food. This one is Sawyer and his voice on it and how you taste more of the beauty that came out of a tragedy. The titles are aptly named for this series with she sums it up rightly so at times it is as the title says. Sawyer is more vocal than his brother but then on other fronts more hidden where in here he is naked in all forms. Knowing some of it all ready I quickly go through this one wanting to see more. The emotions run up and down like his but sad alot more than the others when reading. This is a vibrant read with by the time I get to more of them I was greedy and wanted more than the bit of it.
Unplugged was a great addition to Just An Illusion series. In this book I could learn about everything that has happened in the life of Mel, Noah and their whole extended family through Sawyer’s eyes. Another twist on an already epic love story. I loved Mel and Noah but I loved Sawyer too throughout the first three books in this series. It was great to learn a lot about Sawyer. His real personality and the depth of his feelings were hidden in the background in the recounting of events by Mel, but not anymore. He also deserved the readers’ full attention and a full story dedicated to his POV. I can’t wait to read the next book to find out the rest.
Wow i am not quite sure where to begin. This book and series is so much more than just Rock Stars finding the loves of their life. It’s family, friends, bonds that are unbreakable, love that’s profound, soul mates, band mates, strength, drama, angst, and above all it brings all the complications of life and family right into your heart. Before reading these books I’d also recommend a few boxes of tissues, yeah you will definitely need them.
This final book brings us Sawyer’s story from the previous books, and I found it incredibly hard to read, considering the heartbreak, i still hadn’t recovered from with the other books. We follow this band and their family, friends and relationships through every trial, and ups and downs. Noah and Sawyer’s relationship as twins was never in any danger, but at times their life caused many a rift, yet their loyalty and love shone. What would break many person, made these two guys stronger. We get Sawyers words, thoughts and feelings, and its one hell of an emotional ride. We see his pain, his love and his whole heart through some of the most traumatic times in life a person will have to deal with. and i was shredded, i dealt with it all right there with him, with uncontrollable tears yet glued and addicted to every word. He healed my soul. The attachment you feel with every character in these books just won’t let you go, its a family you want to belong to, its friends you want to have and its men that you want to hold close, because how the hell do you ever climb out of the hole, when everything you live for is gone and half of your soul will never be replaced.
Finally getting Sawyer’s thoughts and feelings was everything I hoped for and more. We fell in love with him and the entire Weston and Bastards and Dangerous family throughout the Just An Illusion series, but seeing all the events play out through his eyes is the icing on the cake. Unplugged is not a stand alone and should only be read after enjoying the previous 3 books in the series.
Even though there aren’t truly new events in this book, it isn’t simply a recap of the prior books either. We get more detail on events that were previously alluded to as well as interactions/conversations that occurred concurrently with what we already know. There is greater character development and depth of emotion through the interactions of our characters and Sawyer. It was definitely painful at times to know how Sawyer was feeling, but it shed so much light on his actions through the series. Besides finding out his side of the story, I especially loved seeing his friendship with Belle blossom and his interactions with his family. If you weren’t already #TeamSawyer before this book, there’s no doubt you will be after this! Thankfully, there is no cliffhanger at the end of Unplugged and we have one more book to look forward to from Sawyer’s POV! I can’t wait!
