If you have not read the first two books in this series you MUST before reading this book. Be prepared for one hell of a ride because this book was such a heart-wrenching emotional read that I pretty much cried throughout the book. D. Kelly did an amazing job with her words to give us such a beautiful story with this series. This is a definite must read!
This book continues from the aftermath of book two. Be prepared to have lots of tissues ready for this book. I literally cried so hard, I had to stop reading because my heart hurt so bad. I fell in love with these characters so much that this book wrecked me. It has been a long time that I have been affected about what I read in a story but this one just kept affecting me long after I finished this book. I actually had to sit down and process what I was feeling before I could write this review. So much happens in this book that I cannot say what otherwise I would give too much away. This is truly a love story that hurts your heart but frees your soul. I loved every word and this story brought out so much inside me. Amazing book and definitely a series that should be read in order. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Have you ever read a book or series that completely erases the memory of all other books before it-one that takes over every space in your mind so that you feel like the characters are a part of you, that their story is your story, and their every emotion becomes embedded in your soul? That’s what The Illusion series did for me. This was an emotional and memorable journey of self discovery, through heartbreak and loss, and the darkness that follows, as well as finding peace, love, and happily ever after against all the odds. D. Kelly poured her heart and soul out in this book, and I feel blessed to have experienced it.
It’s really hard to write a review for this type of book. There were so many surprises and unknowns in Mel’s life that I don’t want to give any of it away. So I’ll focus on my emotions regarding Mel’s story. To say I was an emotional wreck would be an understatement. I went from one extreme to the other from beginning to end. But I can tell you that all of the pain, crying, and devastation was worth it.
The author started in the present allowing us to finally learn a few details of what was currently happening in Mel’s life that brought her to writing her book and making some decisions about her life. By now you know what tragedy struck the BAD group. I can honestly say that I started bawling the second I began reading about the past. I have never cried so hard or so long for any characters in a book, and I’ve read some heart wrenching stories. You’re going to need a box of tissues, wine, a bottle of tequila (my personal favorite), chocolate, or whatever else makes you feel better during the small breaks you’ll inevitably need while taking this journey. And you’ll absolutely need to be alone. Other people don’t need to see you ugly cry. You will also likely need some Tylenol and a nap after finishing this book. I was emotionally drained for 2 days, puffy, itchy eyes and all. Have I scared you yet? LOL! And if you really want to get to the heart of the characters, listen to the music the author peppers throughout the story. It adds so much to the mindset of the characters.
I hated watching Mel and the others struggle with their loss, but I also loved it. I know that sounds strange, but it was important to see how they each dealt with their grief and were eventually able to come out on the other side. I especially enjoyed witnessing Mel’s growth. She had lost so much when her parents and grandmother died that I wasn’t sure Mel could ever move past her demons to find her way into the light. However, she had an amazing group of people around her to support her, love her, and push her out of her black hole. It was amazing to see, and I was thankful she had the BAD family to wrap their arms around her and hold her up. UGH! I wish I could say more!!! This book was everything I could have hoped for and more than I imagined it could possible be. To say that I’m elated how it ends would be an understatement. Thank you D. Kelly for bringing us such a beautiful and poignant tale.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy of this book.
You do need to read Just an Illusion Side A and Side B before this one. They can not be read as standalones. I can’t say much because it will spoil part of the story. 5 stars is no where near enough for this story or the series.
I Cried through the whole story and loved every word you wrote. I look forward to reading Darrens story in the future. This series is my favorite and will stay with me forever D. Kelly thank you for your words!!
I couldn’t stop crying through most of this book!!
I absolutely, loved, loved, loved this series. I had tears in my eyes for at least half of this book; my heart was completely broken. I honestly had to stop reading for a while because at one point I could no longer see the words. Yes, I was that devastated. If any reader is looking for a book that will give you ALL THE FEELS this is the series for you. However, these books MUST BE READ IN ORDER. This wasn’t an easy journey for the characters but it was one I was more than happy to “experience.” I felt as if everything happening in this book was happening right in front of me and as much pain as it caused it also brought a lot of joy and laughs along the way. I definitely look forward to reading more books from this author and I’d recommend all readers to give this series a try. It’s definitely worth reading.
Loved and hated this book! But it ends well, you are so vested in the characters because she is an amazing writer! Read with a box of tissues and bottle of wine!
Short review. First thing first bring Kleenex because you are going to need it. Emotionally moving third book in The Illusion series and one that will stay with you long after you finish it. There are many moments that will have you crying, laughing but most of all feeling how deeply the characters love each other it will also make you believe in fate. *Mini spoiler* I realize while reading this book that I misjudged Noah, I thought he didn’t see or know that Sawyer was lying about being in love with Mel but I was wrong and I’m glad I was. *End of spoiler* This book is feel will so much and compassion but most importantly how love and hope are needed to find your way out of the darkness and pain of grief and loss and into the light of love and life.
