HETTA COFFEY IS A SASSY TEXAN WITH A SNAZZY YACHT, AND SHE’S NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!
Hetta Coffey is a globe-trotting civil engineer with a swath of failed multi-national affairs in her jet stream.
Plying the San Francisco waterfront, trolling for triceps, her attention is snagged by a parade of passing yachts — especially their predominantly male skippers — and experiences a champagne-induced … champagne-induced epiphany: If she had a boat, she could get a man.
In spite of a spectacular ignorance of all things nautical, Hetta buys her dream boat, but a shadowy stalker, an inconvenient body, and Hetta’s own self-destructive foibles imperil her goal. Hetta Coffey brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “sink or swim!”

This is a great series starter for the Hetta Coffey Series!
Follow the adventures of Hetta, a determined single 40-something who decides to change up her life by buying a yacht! The drinks are cold, the dialogue is funny, and Hetta is a character who will resonate.
Oh Hetta!
She is blunt, crass, independent and full of spit and vinegar! A world traveler, Hetta heads back to the States seeking to grow her business, when a dissented employee wreaks havoc on her parade.
Fantastic series with great characters that you grow to love. Highly recommend for an actual laugh out loud experience.
Hetta Coffey rocks! Jinx Schwartz’s Hetta Coffee series is fun, funny, and transports us from our armchair out into the Mexican desert or Sea of Cortez. Some excellent LOL moments too. You never know what crazy character’s gonna show up next. Love Hetta! More please Ms. Schwartz!
BookBub got me into the Hetta Coffey series in 2013 and, with book seven in the series out, it’s a good time to go back to this first book. Hetta is a feisty Texas girl who’s a civil engineer, out on her own and looking for another life. She decides buying a boat will help her see the world and find some adventure. For Hetta, adventure equals …
To read one “Just” book is to want more of Hetta Coffey and her view of surviving the business word by moving to a boat and plying the waters of the Sea of Cortez. As a somewhat unorthodox Civil Engineer, she consistently finds touble. Each book is a hoot and a treasure. Enjoy!
I like this series and will read more of them.
I’m a big fan of this series. Highly recommended.
If you like nautical misadventures with a salty 40-something woman at the helm, check out this book by highly-successful indie author Jinx Schwartz. It’s the first in her series featuring Hetta Coffey, and a great introduction to Hetta and her longtime sidekick Jan who offers consolation after Hetta’s love affair in the Far East has ended …
I am leaving this review on book #1 of the Hetta Coffey book series. I actually binge-read (devoured) all 10 books in the series after accumulating the entire series over a period of time. What had I been waiting for? I enjoyed every minute of her adventures on the water. The smart dialogue and character development made it feel as if I was …
Jinx
‘Schwartz is now one of my favorite authors I love sailing and she brings to life the magic that I feel when I am under sail. Her character development is wonderful. You really like the main characters including the dog. She has a great sense of humor as well. When you finish the book you will feel better than when you started.
This is the first in a series about Hetta Coffey, a Forty-something woman who decides she should buy and live on a boat so that she can meet eligible men. She departs on a journey to Mexico where trouble ensues. Most of the trouble is of her own making and she sometimes brings her best friend along for the ride.
These are very lighthearted …
Jinx Schwartz is a fun author to read! I love the escapades of Hetta Coffey and look forward to new ones coming. In this book Hetta is just meeting the man that becomes her savior in future episodes…but I digress!
This being the first book in the series, it explains the whys and how’s of many of the future books. How her yacht came about, …
I started reading Six Schwartz Hetta Coffey series eight years ago, and have always been excited when a new book comes out. Hetta is a hoot, but she gets into some very dangerous situations, and finds unique ways out of them. It’s a fun series. Highly recommended!
Loved it. Couldn’t put it down
This was a great book about someone learning to sail and buying a sailboat without experience and loving it all!
Kudos to the protagonist being an engineer and self sufficient. The nautical setting is a refreshing change of pace.
Love the characters in this series definitely entertaining
Loved Hetta!
