When the line between “need” and “want” gets blurred… Gabriel DuVal, a rising soccer star. Jared Sheldon, a team physician. To the outside world, they’re just good friends. But the truth is, Gabriel isn’t entirely sure what they are to each other. Some call their relationship unhealthy. Some call it codependency. Gabriel calls it confusing. He knows Jared wants him – as more than a friend. He … wants him – as more than a friend. He doesn’t want Jared. He’s straight, he has a girlfriend, and he loves her. But Jared is… Jared is more. Jared is his. He needs him – his touch and his strength.
But is it enough for Jared?
Publisher’s warning: This is not a light-hearted story; this is a rather twisted gay-for-you story. It contains some steamy MM scenes, strong language, and two people so wrapped up in each other that the nature of their relationship goes beyond friendship–and beyond normal.
Book 3 in the Straight Guys series.

I just loved this series. I binged on the whole thing the past week. I picked these up after coming across them on Amazon when I was looking for something to read while I was bored. Now, I spent the whole week sneaking in time to read all of them. I’m going to miss this series now that I finished it. This was a new to me author, and I’m so glad I found her. I’m adding her to my auto one-click list. She’s so good and deserves more attention then she probably gets.
*Review posted to all books as a general review for whole series.
Omg, I can’t get enough of this series and trope, especially in the way this author brings it to fruition.
The storys and characters just keep getting better.
Top 5 Favorite GFY Series!!!
I will start by saying I enjoyed the first two books in this series and was excited for this book. It wasn’t what I was hoping it would be sadly. I was hoping to see both of these characters change for the better in a way that was more healthy but what I got was not that. Gabriel is selfish and I honestly never liked him. Jared just gave in to it and everything that Gabriel wanted. I get love. It makes you do crazy things but it was honestly a very toxic relationship and normally that doesn’t bug me but I found it really did with this book. I wanted to see character growth and I got nothing. It was very fast paced and that may have had something to do with no character growth. I’m not sure. I just honestly can’t like Gabriel at all after the things he did. 2 stars because I like that Hated tried to leave the toxic behind…. but was pulled right back in too easily. Like I said; normally toxic doesn’t bug me but I honest just couldn’t do this type of toxic. It seemed too much for shock factor and made Gabriel seem like a toddler. 2 stars #2OCCJD
There are no apologies made for how codependent Gabriel and Jared are with each other. There is no room in their relationship or lives for anyone else but each other. This isn’t healthy, but neither of them care. Instead, their relationship is hot and steamy with incredible possessive sex and intense emotions. I really enjoyed this book.
One thing I adore about this author is since she’s not on social media she appears unafraid to go where the stories and characters lead her. She’s unapologetic if her guys happen not to be clear on their sexuality but she always presents them realistically and with dignity. I highly recommend this author! Hugs, Z.
This one was a BIG FAT NOOOOOOO for me!
Jared, is such a sad and pathetic excuse of a man, who let Gabriel walk all over him!
Gabriel, was just a selfish piece of shit, who only thinks about himself.
And what is happening to all the girls has to be bitches?
I fear that the books are going in the wrong direction for me, so I think I have to take a break from the series!
“It was a special kind of hell: to be so close to him and know he could never have him.”
Jared is a total sweetheart who just happens to be head over heels in love with a guy he can’t have. Or so he thought.
Gabriel came to Jared as a broken 16-year old injured soccer player who needed rehabilitation. But over the next few years, these two becomes inseparable.
Jared fell insanely in love with him and moved to the UK to be with him, knowing he would only ever be a friend. All while Gabe maintains his “I’m straight and love my girlfriend” routine but that doesn’t stop him from being overly affectionate, clingy and possessive over Jared. Talk about mixed signals Gabe.
Gabe has always known of Jared’s feelings, but being the selfish twat he is, he refuses to let him go. When the news of Gabe becoming a father sinks in, Jared realises he can’t sit around and watch Gabe play happy family, he makes the hard decision to go back to America and move on with his life.
That doesn’t sit well with spoiled Gabe.
He is a mess and has been since Jared left, not even the birth of his son warms his heart nor the love of his girlfriend, who is ever so patient. When he learns “His” Jared has moved on with another man, he loses it. Determined to bring him back, Gabe offers everything he has always wanted. Himself.
Now, this one I have noticed copped a bit of flack because Gabe treated his girlfriend so crappy and because of the way he is so dependent on Jared. But honestly, It just plays to how much he really did love Jared from the start, he just didn’t understand it so clung to what he believed to be “normal” while still trying to hold onto what his heart wanted.
I would have loved to have had some more time with these two as a couple, perhaps have Jared whip Gabe’s spoiled butt into line
There is always the chance that Alessandra just might do that
