A young attorney tries her first case . . . and it’s Murder One in a legal thriller from the world’s #1 bestselling writer. Ruby Bozarth, a newcomer to Rosedale, Mississippi, is also fresh to the Mississippi Bar–and to the docket of Circuit Judge Baylor, who taps Ruby as defense counsel in a racially charged felony. The murder of a woman from one of the town’s oldest families has Rosedale’s … from one of the town’s oldest families has Rosedale’s upper crust howling for blood, and the prosecutor is counting on Ruby’s inexperience to help him deliver a swift conviction. Ruby’s client is a college football star who has returned home after a career-ending injury, and she is determined to build a defense that will stick. She finds help in unexpected quarters from Suzanne, a hard-charging attorney armed to the teeth, and Shorty, a diner cook who knows more than he lets on.
I loved this book. I loved how the heroine started off unsure of herself and just kept plodding along. I love how she gained the respect of her clients and most importantly herself. I loved how she turned the tables on EVERYONE and the irony of the 3rd Juror.
Loved this book. It is a great page tuner, I read it in less than a week.
Very suspenseful throughout. Couldn’t put it down. Loved the humor throughout.
It is one of my favorite books. I am totally in love with it and am sure that any book addict like me will love just as much as I do.
‘ve got a book about a lawyer in rural Mississippi. No, it’s NOT by John Grisham. Really – sure, that would have been MY first guess, too. And my second. In this instance, however, the James Patterson publishing juggernaut has landed in an area best known as another writer’s sandbox. And, while the book stands on its own, the feeling that it is trespassing or squatting looms as a monolith over every paragraph from beginning to end.
The story itself? Entertaining enough. Newly minted lawyer Ruby Bozarth suddenly finds her small-time legal assistance efforts augmented by the assignment to defend a high profile accused murderer. Why Ruby? It seems that the accused assaulted the legal aid lawyer originally assigned to his case! And, the situation evolves to the point where it’s not the only high profile murderer she needs to defend!
My concerns (besides the aforementioned monolith) – I found no real surprises in this book. I didn’t quickly determine the identity of the actual first murderer (I don’t think it much of a spoiler in a book like this to discover that the accused may not actually be guilty), but I DID figure out every other aspect of the case. And the second murder? Not only did I pick out the murderer, but also the approximate motives and even details about the victim that did not originally come to light in discovery!
I call this a “popcorn” book. Entertaining and tasty, but it doesn’t leave a lasting impression. It DOES, however, whet my appetite to try out some of co-author Nancy Allen’s solo work – which, I suspect, is the second most important career step about collaborating with Mr. Patterson. (The first, of course, would be the immediate potential profits on the book itself!)
RATING: 3 1/2 stars, rounded up to 4 stars where 1/2 stars are not permitted.
This was the best book! I loved it! I listened to the audible book read by Megan Tusing. It was a great narration, she did an amazing job! This story is about Ruby Bozarth, a new lawyer who has never tried a murder case. She’s wet behind the ears and needs help when she’s handed her first murder case. Enter Suzanne, a seasoned attorney ready to help. This is a wonderful book. I hope there will be a second book to follow. There is mystery and drama, suspense and humor, maybe a little romance to. Great book, I highly recommend it!
James Patterson’s novel “Juror #3” is a fast-paced story with great, well-developed characters that bring you to cheering for the underdog and want to hiss at others. It’s got all the makings to keep you reading, including old money, characters below the poverty line, good and bad cops, budding relationship, and a legal old boys club in the Deep South. The rest is left for you to find out!
Another nail biting suspense thriller that will keep you seated until you reach the verdict.
It was a good Patterson book. His fans will enjoy it.
What a thrill this book was! It’s actually two stories in one, and through both stories we learn about young Ruby, fresh into the legal world. She is one sharp cookie, but at times, I certainly wondered about her common sense. This could easily be a great series. Author Nancy Allen shines here because I do not see much of the usual, scary work of James Patterson. Well-done!
I loved the true to life quirkiness of the woman lawyer starting out. Southern charm in a murder trial redemption.
I read this whole book thinking it was a John Grisham and wondering why it was so poorly written. It wasn’t until the end that I realized it was James Patterson (well the author of the week writing as James Patterson) emulating Grisham. He/She missed the mark. The story starts out with some intrigue, a Black waiter is accused of killing a White party girl during a Mardi Gras party and Ruby Bozarth, young lawyer, is assigned to defend him. That case is quickly resolved, only to have another racial crime, Ruby’s ex-fiance is accused of killing a prostitute. Several twists and turns, and a likable sidekick in Ruby’s mentor, but overall the book just fell flat. I wouldn’t waste your time on this one.
Listened to the audio book. It started off OK. Then when it went to the second part of the story, I thought it moved slow and the tie in to the name at the end seemed like it was an afterthought.
Just another one cranked out with the JP name associated with it,
Not very creative or well written. It felt like they were just filling pages to sell the story. Having a scene repeated from a different character’s point of view is nice once in a while, but repeatedly just gets annoying.
James Patterson, need I say more?
Once again, great Patterson book. Can’t put this one down either.
It was an easy read. James Patterson with his co-author, Nancy Allen, has finally gotten away from the bizarre and has been producing some exciting new reads. I thought the concept of Jurir #3 was resolved halfway through but ther is yet another Juror #3. Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!
I hadn’t read a James Patterson book in years, but did enjoy it. Not a page turner suspense like Kiss the Girls or Along Came a Spider, but engaging nonetheless. A good read!
Terrific!!!!
I enjoyed reading this book. The plot twists were surprising, and it kept me eager to keep reading. This book is typical James Patterson. His followers will enjoy it.
