Romance with a twist. She was supposed to be his summer but could he ever really let her go? I loved the flow of this book. You get to see a romance develop that you didn’t really think would happen. I instantly fell in love with the characters I love the nerd appeal. They both seem to have some relationship issues and I can honestly say I would never see them get together in real life but the connection is so gripping. The story is beautifully written and will have you on the edge of your seat. The conflicts really add to the book and have you connect with the characters on another level. I consumed this book in one sitting and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
Juniper Mills is a dedicated curator at a local museum. She’s twenty-six with a whole lot more life to live, but unfortunately relationships have never been a number one priority. Her family needs her and therefore she’s at a standstill with love.
Kyle Paxton comes from a long line of wealth. He’s most certainly the eccentric type. However, once he lays eyes on a prize he’s determined and always gets what he wants. This is all true until he meets Juniper Mills, and she knocks him off his axis.
Sadia Ash, in Juniper Smoke, writes the tale of two parallel characters trapped by circumstances beyond their control. Both Juniper and Kyle have developed their own coping mechanisms and neither is ready to crumble the walls of their own life preserving tactics to seek the higher order of unconditional love. Through an interesting set of circumstances their collision course is set into motion. Ash uses an interesting style of characterization with a twisted sense of juxtaposition between Kyle and Juniper’s brother. While each identifies with a higher level of IQ, one is paralyzed in his own diagnosis, a familiar labeled disorder, the other is simply considered unique. Ash also uses specific diction which reflects the world of art and high society creating a tone which the reader falls into easily the life style of the rich and famous. She also integrates some of the rich imagery and extended metaphorical devices of classical authors. This further captures the essence and sophistication of the setting she creates. For a first published prose work, Ash shows extraordinary talent.
Juniper and Kyle are the type of characters that seep off the pages, under your skin, and into your heart. Sadia Ash manages to pull off the heart-wrenching, all-consuming style of writing that I hope to encounter behind the cover of every book, but rarely actually do. Most stories stay with me for a few weeks, but this book, this series will stay with me forever.
Juniper is a unique lady. She is smart, strong , a bit nerdy. She has great friends, a great job but no man. Her single mom raised her to believe that every relationship with a man was basically doomed.
While working at her museum she meets tech mogul , Kyle. He is also a bit of a nerd, with no success at female relationships.
They are drawn to each other like a moth to a candle is a slow burn way.
Both have a wit and humor in their interactions that I enjoyed. These characters were great to read instead of the typical insta live alpha/ weaker female.
I loved the story, characters and the writers amazing style.
I am volunteering to leave a review for this book.
Juniper Mills is a simple girl that has a lot on her plate. Her pay at the museum is what keeps her family afloat. Her special brother Cypress and her mom depend on Juniper and she can’t let them down. Kyle is the new board member of the museum and is ready to make some great changes. He also wants Juniper. He has no idea that she is so simple and wants her to be f-buddy for the next 5 months and lays it out there for her to take it but she’s torn up about it. Her family needs her and her need to live and find love and happiness. Kyle has a plan for everything but when it comes to Juniper things are new and open. He loves control and needs it but with Juniper it is all open and he doesn’t mine at all. What will happen to Kyle and Juniper? I’m off to read the second book to find out.
Great start to a series!! The story line is very good and will keep your interest from page one up until the end. Lots of tension and drama is thrown in to keep you invested. I’m usually not a fan of cliffhangers , so I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book!
Where do I even begin? This book totally was not what I thought it was going to be. It was everything and so much more.
The sexual tension between Kyle and Juniper make this read through the roof HOT!
Juniper and Kyle come from two very different worlds. She’s a Jr. Museum Curator. He’s a Billionaire who is intrigued with the woman who thinks he’s hired help. These two from the start are magnetic. I’m not one usually for angst-filled reads, but I really couldn’t step away from the book once I started.
I must admit. There were times I really wanted to throat punch Kyle (don’t we all at times with men!) but as the storyline progresses and we see into Kyle’s past, you begin to melt under his powers and are sucked into the icy complexity of Kyle Paxton and how Juniper helps to melt the exterior and grab hold of the man inside.
Even though everything on the outside screams that these two aren’t meant for each other. When you get down to the core of each of them, you see how perfect they were made for each other.
The Smoke Series will definitely be on my top reads for the year!
It took me a while to get into this book, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down. Kyle and Juniper are two quirky characters with even more peculiar families. Their attraction is palpable and chemistry is fantastic. They are pushed outside of their comfort zones to find common ground in their budding romance. I enjoyed reading this but I felt some areas where repetitious. It’s still a great debut novel.
Oh my! Juniper Smoke was something else. I was so invested in this book that I just kept running back to it. No matter what I had to do, I would rush through it just so I could read again. And then that ending…..I cursed Sadia so hard my husband laughed. I am now reading Finding Juniper, I could not wait to find out what happens next. One-click. Now!!
A whirlwind of a book, Juniper and Kyle have an impressive story. While it was quite long, I’m glad that I stuck with it. Emotional highs and lows of two broken souls that kept my mind spinning. Now, I’m diving into Finding Juniper.
I WOULD GIVE A HUNDRED STARS IF I COULD!!!!!!
This book. I simply just will not give this book the credit it is due. This book was slow moving, but only because of the depth of these characters and the incredible attention to detail this author has. I was intrigued with both Kyle and Juniper, but more so Kyle. He just fascinated me and I craved trying to work out what makes him tick, and why he is the way he is. Their story evolved slowly and with incredible drama. Juniper and her life was certainly not a simple one. I just adored her brother, Cypress. Her story unfolded more easily than Kyle’s. Kyle, in my opinion, is an extremely complex character and the way his mind works get you thinking deep thoughts. I loved the theme of the book and the level of knowledge this author portrayed, was simply stunning. Usually I lose interest if a book is not fast paced, but the way Sadia can weave a story, I was hooked from the very beginning and reading about Kyle and Juniper became an addiction. I lived and breathed the journey, thinking about them even when not reading. Sadia Ash has the incredible talent of totally bewitching you and you will not see or feel it coming. And once she has you, there is no escape until the very end. I cannot praise her work enough and I just can’t get enough. An amazing discovery and a true delight to be able to read her work.
Kyle and Junipers story is meant to be savored to fully grasp it’s beautiful complexity. Both characters come from different backgrounds and certain circumstances that have shaped them into who they are. Together all their jagged edges just seem to fit. But keeping the pieces together is the hard part when secrecy and outside forces just seem to be ungluing their connection.
AMAZING is the first word that comes to mind after reading this book! This is not your typical playboy bachelor meets nerdy girl next door. Kyle (playboy) is very methodical in his relationships until he meets Juniper (nerdy girl). Juniper causes Kyle’s very odd quirks to begin to unravel. The attraction between the two is instant and undeniable. Can Juniper get past her strict upbringing? Is Kyle willing to change his ways? Can either of them survive his crazy, over-the-top family and all the secrets that they bring? There were so many twists and turns I felt like I was on a roller coaster and I loved it!!!! Sadia’s writing is exceptional and you feel every emotion as you read along. A definite must read!!
I enjoyed this book. Giving readers a entertaining blend of strong emotions, likable characters and realism. The plot was interesting and I felt invested in these characters. This opposites attract romance is a good read. This is my freely posted, frank review.
This is the debut novel of Sadia Ash and it is a pretty big book, it is around 650 pages.
I just finished reading and I am still not sure how I feel about this book. There where things I loved and other things I didn’t like.
The actual story I enjoyed. Sadia Ash has created two very complex, layered and developed characters. She showed their emotions so well and how things that happens in the past have a big influence in adulthood. It shapes who you are today.
Loved that fact that Juniper was a curator in a museum and how passionate she was about her work. She was strong and quirky. Kyle compares himself to a monster, a ticking clock, focused on time and data. And empty inside.
Haven’t said that I do think this book could have cut by ⅓. it would have made the story a bit tighter. And I didn’t like who Juniper was in the end. her constant doubts and willingness to believe other and running instead of confronting Kyle. She kept breaking the rules.
I do want to know how this story end though.
Kyle Paxton and Juniper Mills are unique and captivating characters. Their story is surprising and creative. The writing is different and filled with people and places and things that effect the direction and tone of each chapter and event.
Kyle is the kind of man you can love and hate all at the same time. Juniper is quirky and beautiful and intelligent. I found them both refreshing and frustrating.
Juniper Smoke is a romance with a touch of mystery and ends on a cliffhanger. I’m looking forward to the conclusion.
I really wanted to like this book, I was hooked by the blurb and captured by the reviews. . . I didn’t read enough of them. This book could have been amazing. The concept was great, the execution?? Well. . . This author tends to ramble. Tons of information not needed to the point of mind buzz. I found myself skimming the story not only because of the endless word vomit but also because the characters were all over the place. I don’t understand how this emotional and verbally abusive relationship can be considered healthy or romantic is beyond me. I don’t know which I tired of first her constant use of her brother and his challenges, how guilty she felt, how guarded she was of her personal life or her throwing his choices in his face. She agrees to this “arrangement” then brandishes it and uses it as a weapon against him when he starts to feel differently. Him, I can’t even begin to touch on. This is dysfunction at the heights and not enjoyable to read. Normally I try to put a positive spin on a read and find some good in characters but these two and the presentation of them is hard to get around.
It seems I have an unpopular opinion when it comes to Juniper Smoke. I went into this book blind because I had seen so many great reviews about it. Plus, I had heard the movie rights to Juniper Smoke had been bought, which seemed like a good sign. But unfortunately I just couldn’t finish this one. I kept trying to push through, hoping something would click and I would love the book, but it didn’t happen.
If you purchase the bundle of parts 1 and 2, like me, be prepared for a long read of 650+ pages. Long reads are usually what I prefer because they allow me to spend more times with the characters and story, but I felt like there was a lot of necessary fillers. Juniper would have a long internal tangent or there would be a scene that I just felt wasn’t relevant to the story and would cause me to lose interest.
I had really high hopes for this one, but it just wasn’t for me. However, I seem to be part of the minority of readers who didn’t enjoy Juniper smoke, so you may end up loving it.
From the very beginning you could feel the magnetism between Juniper and Kyle. They both feel it and are consumed with the thoughts of each other. Juniper’s upbringing provided her with her distrust in men and her lack of experience. Kyle’s past gave him his regimented set of rule for Summer and Winter and the lack of emotional connections. They both try to meet each part way to test the waters and see what will happens. Juniper knows she already loves Kyle. Can she be the one that breaks through to Kyle to shatter his rules and return emotions to him?
I enjoyed reading Smoke. I look forward to seeing how Juniper and Kyle work through their differences as well as finding out what really happened with Chloe. I received this book for my honest review.
I love when authors write stories with imperfect characters. IRL how often does everything go smoothly? I can relate to the characters so much more and that makes me more involved in the story. Can’t wait for more in the series!
