Criminal investigator Larry Macklin is enjoying a relaxing family vacation on the Florida coast… until a body washes up next door and all hell breaks loose. It’s soon apparent that the island’s hapless police chief is not up to the task of finding a murderer. As more bodies are discovered, Larry and his father are drawn into the investigation against their will and far out of their jurisdiction. … their jurisdiction. The situation is not improved by the arrival of the local sheriff, Will Duncan, a harsh man who resents the Macklins involvement.
Larry soon finds himself juggling both the murder investigations and his father’s increasingly tense relationship with the rival sheriff. When Duncan charges an innocent man with one of the murders, Larry knows he’s running out of time. Will he be able to find the real killer before his father is arrested for obstruction of justice… or worse?

One of the books you don’t want to end.
I really enjoyed the story line on this book.
good book
Not quite finished this (leaving the last few chapters for tonight!), but have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the characters in this book — and would look forward to reading others involving the father-son police duo.
The plot line was a little hard to imagine the amount of deaths happening and amount of solved murders in less than a week’s vacation time by the two main characters in this book.
This is the first time I have read about this character. I’ll read more.
A down-to-earth, entertaining detective story. In reality, I would expect more push back from the female characters but overall, I enjoyed the dialogues. Without giving anything away, I found the conclusion very gratifying.
It was pretty good
I’m a sucker for originality of character and this series has tons of them. Each book in the series creates a believable storyline and the steps to reach the conclusion are not “oh come on” horrible. I don’t read them for the crimes as much for the day to day lives of this cast of characters.
Good first person crime drama but I had no affinity for any of the main characters. And poor line editing ruined the read.
An interesting tale of intrigue and murder. Great read. A real page-turner.
Not great, but entertaining. The female characters, in particular, are pretty one-dimensional.
Good cop book!
Great book. I now have another wonderful author to follow!
Very enjoyable read
good read, great characters great story. Looking forward to reading more of these, thanks .
Dry plot, witty and we’ll written
I liked the father/son relationship. I will read more of this series. Fun read.
